This book was released on 2014-12-21 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the twelfth in a series of NASA publications containing detailed predictions, maps, and meteorological data for future total and annular solar eclipses of interest. Published as part of NASA's Technical Publication (TP) series, the eclipse bulletins are prepared in cooperation with the Working Group on Eclipses of the International Astronomical Union and are provided as a public service to both the professional and lay communities, including educators and the media. In order to allow a reasonable lead time for planning purposes, eclipse bulletins are published 18 to 24 months before each event. On 2009 July 22, a total eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses half the Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in India and crosses through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China before curving south across the Pacific Ocean. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean. Detailed predictions for this event are presented and include Besselian elements, geographic coordinates of the path of totality, physical ephemeris of the umbra, topocentric limb profile corrections, local circumstances for approx. 250 cities, maps of the eclipse path, weather prospects, the lunar limb profile and the sky during totality. Information on safe eclipse viewing and eclipse photography is included.

Book Characteristics of the Earth ionosphere Waveguide for VLF Radio Waves

Download or read book Characteristics of the Earth ionosphere Waveguide for VLF Radio Waves written by James R. Wait and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal results of this technical note are graphical presentations of the attenuation rates, phase velocities, and excitation factors for the dominant modes in the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The frequency range considered is 8 kc/s to 30 kc/s. *The model adopted for the ionosphere has an exponential variation for both the electron density and the collision frequency, and the effect of the earth's magnetic field is considered.Comparison with published experimental data confirms that the minimum attenuation of VLF radio waves in daytime is approximtely at 18 kc/s, while at night it is somewhat lower. The directional dependences of propagation predicted by the theory are also confirmed by experimental data.(Author).

Download or read book Nearest Star written by Leon Golub and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-17 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did the Sun evolve, and what will it become? What is the origin of its light and heat? How does solar activity affect the atmospheric conditions that make life on Earth possible? These are the questions at the heart of solar physics, and at the core of this book. The Sun is the only star near enough to study in sufficient detail to provide rigorous tests of our theories and help us understand the more distant and exotic objects throughout the cosmos. Having observed the Sun using both ground-based and spaceborne instruments, the authors bring their extensive personal experience to this story revealing what we have discovered about phenomena from eclipses to neutrinos, space weather, and global warming. This second edition is updated throughout, and features results from the current spacecraft that are aloft, especially NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, for which one of the authors designed some of the telescopes.
