Book excerpt: To Snare A Fox To Snare A Fox To Snare a Fox is a rip roaring adventure novel about international drug trafficking on a grand scale involving oil supply boats, cargo ships and oil rigs. Follow the scented trail of the Fox around the world as DEA agent Jim Douglas tries to track down this illusive, clever, ruthless international criminal. In 1989, the Americans invaded Panama and arrested President Noriega for drug trafficking into the USA. During the battle that followed, two DEA (Drug Executive Administration), agents, working out of the American Embassy arrested a general who was about to deliver a truck load of narcotics to a British national, called the Fox, whose boat was tied up in the harbour. The two agents: Jim Douglas and Sam Pollard disguised themselves, masquerading as Panamanian army officers and drove the truck to the harbour in the old town area, for a fateful meeting with the Fox. Their plan was to arrest the Fox while he exchanged a suitcase of money for the drugs, but they had not taken into consideration the ruthless, devious intentions of the Fox. When some time later, a group of follow up CIA agents found the two men, they had been shot. Pollard was dead. Douglas had been shot in the back twice. He was alive but barely breathing. The Fox escaped with the drugs and found sanctuary in Columbia, until the invasion blew over. Months later, agent Jim Douglas made a full recovery. It had been a startling, incredible recover from serious body wounds but, although his body had been healed, his mind was still wounded, by the trauma of seeing his fellow agent and friend die. Douglas had suffered from the Foxs gun, and would never forget the cold, steel, blue eyes and the cruel, merciless face of the man who had shot him. Nor would he forget the promise that he had made to Pollard, as he lay dying, lying beside him on the groun

Book excerpt: If all the methods as given in this book had been studied out by one man and he began trapping when Columbus discovered America, more than four hundred years ago, he would not be half completed. The methods given on the following pages are principally taken from articles published in the H-T-T, and as the writers give their own most successful methods, the trapper of little experience with fox will find them of great value. Their articles are from all parts of America, so that trappers from any section will find a method or methods that can be used. The red fox is the one most sets describe, yet what is a good method for one species is apt to be for others. A. R. HARDING.

Book Guide to Trapping

Download or read book Guide to Trapping written by Jim Spencer and published by Stackpole Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Complete guide to trapping raccoon, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, and a variety of other species • Authoritative advice on matching the right trap--whether leg-hold, body gripper, or snare--to each furbearer • Species-specific instructions for making sets that deliver and tips for preparing and marketing pelts to maximize profits Trapping has become somewhat of a lost art, but interest in the sport is as strong as ever thanks to a stable fur market and a growing need to control mammal populations or remove nuisance animals. In Guide to Trapping, Jim Spencer covers strategies for successfully harvesting popular species such as raccoon, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, coyote, gray fox, red fox, bobcat, skunk, and opossum. His entertaining and informative writing will appeal to trappers of all levels. Spencer discusses trap styles and the basics of establishing and working a trapline, including techniques for fastening and adjusting traps and a species-by-species review of trapping tactics for the country's most pursued furbearers. The field-tested techniques, carefully explained and illustrated, will help trappers make sets that deliver maximum results.

Book excerpt: In this lively and sometimes poignant collection of essays and autobiographies, nearly fifty Alaska Native writers tell of their unique way of life and bear witness to the sweeping cultural changes occurring in their lifetimes. They explore a range of experiences and issues, including skinning a polar bear; traditional domestic and subsistence practices; marriage customs; alcoholism; the challenges and opportunities of modern education; balancing traditional and contemporary demands; discrimination; adapting to urban life; the treatment of Native peoples in school textbooks; and the social realities of speaking standard and “village” English. With its fresh perspectives and unfailingly authentic voices, this collection is essential for an understanding of Alaska Native peoples today.
