Book Elevated Temperature Inelastic Analysis of Metallic Media Under Time varying Loads Using State Variable Theories

Download or read book Elevated Temperature Inelastic Analysis of Metallic Media Under Time varying Loads Using State Variable Theories written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general method for analyzing the time-dependent inelastic response of three-dimensional metallic bodies to arbitrary time-varying mechanical loads and temperature is presented. The method is capable of using any of a number of constitutive relations using state variables that have been recently proposed by other researchers. For the purpose of illustration, the problems of a hollow sphere, cylinder and thin circular disc subjected to various combinations of internal and external pressures, axial force (or constraint) and torque are analyzed using the proposed analysis procedure. The constitutive equations due to Hart are used in the numerical calculations. Hart's model has been previously shown to accurately simulate the deformation behavior of uniaxial metallic specimens subjected to various histories of stress and strain. Numerical results are presented for the mechanical response of a sphere to various prescribed internal pressure or internal displacement histories. Various experimentally observed phenomena in creep and plasticity such as constant stress creep, stress redistribution, history dependence, creep recovery, plastic work hardening, strain rate sensitivity and Bauschinger's effect are shown to be qualitatively predicted by Hart's model for this multiaxial problem.

Book Stress Analysis for Creep

Download or read book Stress Analysis for Creep written by J.T. Boyle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress Analysis for Creep focuses on methods on creep analysis. The book first ponders on the occurrence of creep in mechanical engineering components, including background to stress analysis for creep and general-purpose computer programs for creep analysis. The text presents a phenomenological description of creep. The phenomenon of creep, physical mechanisms of creep, convenient uniaxial constitutive relationships, and creep rupture are described. The book also explains simple component behavior, creep under multiaxial states of stress, and stress analysis for steady creep. The text focuses on reference stress methods in steady creep. Reference stresses for combined loading with a power law; non-isothermal power-law creep; reference temperatures; and approximate reference stress methods are elaborated. The text also focuses on stress analysis for transient creep; approximate solution of transient creep problems; and creep buckling and rupture. The text highlights the design for creep, including material data requirements and constitutive modeling for design; verification and qualification of stress analysis; and design methodology. The book is a good source of data for readers wanting to study creep analysis.

Book Boundary Element Methods in Mechanics

Download or read book Boundary Element Methods in Mechanics written by D. E. Beskos and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Element Methods (BEM) have been successfully used in a variety of areas in engineering science, such as potential theory, elastostatics, elastodynamics, elastoplasticity, fracture, fluid mechanics, heat conduction, acoustics, electromagnetism and soil- or fluid-structure interaction. The most important topics in BEM are described here by well-known researchers in the field. It is a handbook characterized by a combination of tutorial and state-of-the-art aspects. Chapter 1 is an introduction to the fundamentals of the BEM, its history, advantages and disadvantages and future developments. In the second chapter, the potential theory is used to illustrate the mathematical and numerical aspects of the method. Further illustration is provided in the third chapter which deals with two- and three-dimensional elastostatics. Chapters 4 and 5 treat two- and three-dimensional elastodynamics (including viscoelasticity) from a general and a specific point of view, respectively. Nonlinear solid mechanics (including material and geometric nonlinearities) is taken up in the sixth chapter, while two- and three-dimensional fracture analysis is treated in the seventh chapter. Chapter 8 is devoted to fluid mechanics, and in particular to potential, viscous and ground water flow and water-waves, while Chapter 9 concerns itself with acoustics. Chapter 10 discusses heat conduction and mathematically related phenomena of transient thermoelasticity and soil-consolidation. The last two chapters deal with two important interaction phenomena: dynamic soil-structure interaction and fluid-structure interaction.
