Book Ambiguity Free Measurement of Cos2beta

Download or read book Ambiguity Free Measurement of Cos2beta written by B. Aubert and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results on B {yields} J/{psi} K{pi} decays using e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance. The detector is located at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage ring facility at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Using approximately 88 million B{bar B} pairs, we measure the decay amplitudes for the flavor eigenmodes and observe strong-phase differences indicative of final-state interactions with a significance of 7.6 standard deviations. We use the interference between the K{pi} S-wave and P-wave amplitudes in the region of the K*(892) to resolve the ambiguity in the determination of these strong phases. We then perform an ambiguity-free measurement of cos 2{beta} using the angular and time-dependent asymmetry in B {yields} J/{psi} K*{sup 0} (K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}) decays. With sin2{beta} fixed at its measured value and cos2{beta} treated as an independent parameter, we find cos 2{beta} = 2.72{sub -0.79}{sup +0.50}(stat) {+-} 0.27(syst), determining the sign of cos 2{beta} to be positive at 86% CL.

Book Measurement of the Time Dependent CP Asymmetry in the B0 Phi K0 Decay

Download or read book Measurement of the Time Dependent CP Asymmetry in the B0 Phi K0 Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry for the neutral B-meson decay B° →? K°. They use a sample of approximately 114 million B-meson pairs taken at the?(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-meson Factory at SLAC. They reconstruct the CP eigenstates?K{sub S}° and?K{sub L}° where? → KK−, K{sub S}° →?+?−, and K{sub L}° is observed via its hadronic interactions. The other B meson in the event is tagged as either a B° or {bar B}° from its decay products. The values of the CP-violation parameters are S{sub {phi}K} = 0.47 ± 0.34(stat){sub -0.06}{sup +0.08}(syst) and C{sub {phi}K} = 0.01 ± 0.33(stat) ± 0.10(syst).

Book Interpreting the Time Dependent CP Asymmetry in B sup 0 yields pi sup 0 K sub S

Download or read book Interpreting the Time Dependent CP Asymmetry in B sup 0 yields pi sup 0 K sub S written by M. Gronau and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flavor SU(3) is used for studying the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}K{sub S} by relating this process to B{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0} and B{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -}. The authors calculate correlated bounds on S{sub {pi}K} - sin 2{beta} and C{sub {pi}K}, with maximal magnitudes of 0.2 and 0.3, where S{sub {pi}K} and C{sub {pi}K} are coefficients of sin {Delta}mt and cos {Delta}mt in the asymmetry. Stronger upper limits on B{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -} are expected to reduce these bounds and to imply nonzero lower limits on these observables. The asymmetry is studied as a function of a strong phase and the weak phase {gamma}.

Book Study of Time dependent CP Asymmetries with Partial Reconstruction of B D pi

Download or read book Study of Time dependent CP Asymmetries with Partial Reconstruction of B D pi written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a preliminary measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to the final states D*[sup[-+]][pi][sup[+-]], using approximately 82 million B[bar B] events collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II storage ring. Events containing these decays are selected with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the high momentum[pi][sup[+-]] and the low momentum pion from the D*[sup[-+]] decay are reconstructed. The flavor of the other B meson in the event is tagged using the information from kaon and lepton candidates. They measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry[Alpha]= -0.063[+-] 0.024 (stat.)[+-] 0.017 (syst.). They interpret these results in terms of the angles of the unitarity triangle to set a bound onsin(2[beta]+[gamma]).

Book Measurement of CP violating Asymmetries in B 0 rho Pi 0 Using a Time dependent Dalitz Plot Analysis

Download or read book Measurement of CP violating Asymmetries in B 0 rho Pi 0 Using a Time dependent Dalitz Plot Analysis written by Tomonari Scott Miyashita and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results for a time-dependent Dalitz plot measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in the mode B^0 --> pi^+ pi^- pi^0, dominated by B^0 --> rho^\pm pi^\mp (rho^\pm --> pi^\pm pi^0) decays. Our dataset is derived from the complete sample of 471 x 10^6 B-Bbar meson pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operating on the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We extract parameters describing the time-dependent B^0 --> rho pi decay probabilities and CP asymmetries, including C, DeltaC, S, and DeltaS, finding these measurements to be consistent with the results of previous analyses. Additionally, we present a two-dimensional likelihood scan of the direct CP-violation asymmetry parameters for B^0 --> rho^\pm pi^\mp decays, finding the results to be consistent with direct CP violation at ~ 2 sigma significance. Finally, we present information on the CP-violating parameter alpha, corresponding to an angle in the unitarity triangle associated with the CKM quark-mixing matrix. We perform a likelihood scan of alpha that incorporates constraints from B^\pm --> rho pi measurements by means of isospin relationships. A robustness study assessing the reliability with which alpha is extracted provides important insights into the interpretation of this result.

Book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering written by Jay Ameratunga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a one-stop reference to the empirical correlations used extensively in geotechnical engineering. Empirical correlations play a key role in geotechnical engineering designs and analysis. Laboratory and in situ testing of soils can add significant cost to a civil engineering project. By using appropriate empirical correlations, it is possible to derive many design parameters, thus limiting our reliance on these soil tests. The authors have decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, as professional engineers or researchers. The objective of this book is to present a critical evaluation of a wide range of empirical correlations reported in the literature, along with typical values of soil parameters, in the light of their experience and knowledge. This book will be a one-stop-shop for the practising professionals, geotechnical researchers and academics looking for specific correlations for estimating certain geotechnical parameters. The empirical correlations in the forms of equations and charts and typical values are collated from extensive literature review, and from the authors' database.
