Book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics

Download or read book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Stoevesandt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides both a comprehensive overview and deep insights on the state-of-the-art methods used in wind turbine aerodynamics, as well as their advantages and limits. The focus of this work is specifically on wind turbines, where the aerodynamics are different from that of other fields due to the turbulent wind fields they face and the resultant differences in structural requirements. It gives a complete picture of research in the field, taking into account the different approaches which are applied. This book would be useful to professionals, academics, researchers and students working in the field.

Book Using the Boundary Layer Equations in Three Dimensional Viscous Flow Simulation

Download or read book Using the Boundary Layer Equations in Three Dimensional Viscous Flow Simulation written by William R. Van Dalsem and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple and computationally efficient algorithm for solving the unsteady three dimensional boundary layer equations in a time accurate or relaxation mode is presented. The algorithm is used to compute the separated flow over a 6:1 ellipsoid at angle of attack and the transonic flow over a finite wing with shock induced separation. These results are compared to available experimental data. A method of using the boundary-layer algorithm to accelerate a Navier Stokes computation is also presented. Example computations indicate that a boundary-layer algorithm can be used to improve both the accuracy and efficiency of a Navier Stokes algorithm.

Book Three Dimensional Attached Viscous Flow

Download or read book Three Dimensional Attached Viscous Flow written by Ernst Heinrich Hirschel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscous flow is treated usually in the frame of boundary-layer theory and as two-dimensional flow. Books on boundary layers give at most the describing equations for three-dimensional boundary layers, and solutions often only for some special cases. This book provides basic principles and theoretical foundations regarding three-dimensional attached viscous flow. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers. This wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems to be mastered in practice. The topics are weak, strong, and global interaction, the locality principle, properties of three-dimensional viscous flow, thermal surface effects, characteristic properties, wall compatibility conditions, connections between inviscid and viscous flow, flow topology, quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows, laminar-turbulent transition and turbulence. Though the primary flight speed range is that of civil air transport vehicles, flows past other flying vehicles up to hypersonic speeds are also considered. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers, as this wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems that have to be overcome in practice. The specific topics covered include weak, strong, and global interaction; the locality principle; properties of three-dimensional viscous flows; thermal surface effects; characteristic properties; wall compatibility conditions; connections between inviscid and viscous flows; flow topology; quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows; laminar-turbulent transition; and turbulence. Detailed discussions of examples illustrate these topics and the relevant phenomena encountered in three-dimensional viscous flows. The full governing equations, reference-temperature relations for qualitative considerations and estimations of flow properties, and coordinates for fuselages and wings are also provided. Sample problems with solutions allow readers to test their understanding.

Book Calculation of Three dimensional Boundary Layers on Bodies at Incidence

Download or read book Calculation of Three dimensional Boundary Layers on Bodies at Incidence written by V. C. Patel and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three-dimensional thin boundary-layer equations for laminar and turbulent flows are solved by two different numerical schemes. The methods are applied to the flow over bodies of revolution at incidence and the results are compared with the available experimental data in order to study the range of validity of the classical boundary-layer approximations in regions of increasing circumferential gradients and flow reversal associated with the early stages of a free-vortex type of separation. Comparison with the DFVLR 6:1 spheroid data of Meier et al and the 4:1 combination-body data of Ramaprian, Patel and Choi indicate that the methods perform well in regions where the boundary layer remains thin but the predictions deteriorate as the boundary layer thickens. The results point out the need for the development of methods of handle thick boundary layers and viscous-inviscid interactions. (Author).

Book Modeling and Computation of Boundary Layer Flows

Download or read book Modeling and Computation of Boundary Layer Flows written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-05-04 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of the book, Modeling and Computation of Boundary-Layer Flows^ extends the topic to include compressible flows. This implies the inclusion of the energy equation and non-constant fluid properties in the continuity and momentum equations. The necessary additions are included in new chapters, leaving the first nine chapters to serve as an introduction to incompressible flows and, therefore, as a platform for the extension. This part of the book can be used for a one semester course as described below. Improvements to the incompressible flows portion of the book include the removal of listings of computer programs and their description, and their incor poration in two CD-ROMs. A listing of the topics incorporated in the CD-ROM is provided before the index. In Chapter 7 there is a more extended discussion of initial conditions for three-dimensional flows, application of the characteristic box to a model problem and discussion of flow separation in three-dimensional laminar flows. There are also changes to Chapter 8, which now includes new sections on Tollmien-Schlichting and cross-flow instabilities and on the predic tion of transition with parabolised stability equations, and Chapter 9 provides a description of the rational behind interactive boundary-layer procedures.

Book An Integral Method and Its Application to Some Three Dimensional Boundary Layer Flows

Download or read book An Integral Method and Its Application to Some Three Dimensional Boundary Layer Flows written by T. F. Zien and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The simple integral method developed and successfully employed by the author to provide accurate approximate solutions to a wide variety of problems in viscous boundary-layer flows and transient heat conduction with phase changes is further studied. A simple boundary value problem in ordinary differential equation is used as the model problem for the study. Different schemes of the method used in earlier applications are examined in some detail along with a new and potentially more accurate scheme. On the basis of the comparison between the approximate solutions and the exact solution, some remarks on the relative merits of the various schemes are made along with some observations on the judicious choice of the approximate profiles for use in the calculation. The method is then applied to yield approximate solutions of a class of relatively simple three-dimensional boundary-layer flows. Results are reported of boundary layers on a semi-infinite flat plate with parabolic and circular inviscid surface streamlines, and boundary layers over an infinite yawed wing. Results are presented in terms of skin-friction, and are all obtained in simple closed form. Comparisons with existing exact solutions are included to indicate the accuracy of the method. (Author).

Book Computation of Incompressible Three Dimensional Turbulent Boundary Layers and Comparison with Experiment

Download or read book Computation of Incompressible Three Dimensional Turbulent Boundary Layers and Comparison with Experiment written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Incompressible three dimensional, turbulent boundary layer (3DTBL) experiments were simulated numerically by integrating the boundary layer equations together with an algebraic eddy viscosity turbulence model. For the flow treated, the downstream portion, where the crossflow was large, was not predicted with the present computational method; the flow was significantly influenced by elliptic flow field effects. Departures from the boundary layer concept are indicated. Calculations agreed reasonably well with the mean flow development up to separation. In one experiment the normal pressure gradients were found to be neligible in regions with large skewing and allowed testing turbulence models using the boundary layer equations. The simulation of this flow compared favorably with the experimental data throughout the flow field and suggested the applicability of algebraic eddy viscosity models for 3DTBLs. Mueller, U. R.
