Book Studies of Interactive Procedures for Three Dimensional Flows I Separation and Reattachment Near the Leading Edge of a Thin Wing

Download or read book Studies of Interactive Procedures for Three Dimensional Flows I Separation and Reattachment Near the Leading Edge of a Thin Wing written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is concerned with the calculation of the leading-edge separation which occurs on thin wings with increasing angle of attack. To develop a general method and provide a basis for its evaluation, the simplified problem of a triaxial ellipsoid at incidence is considered. The boundary-layer equations are solved with quasi-three-dimensional approximation, in finite-difference form, with the Mechul method to allow the determination of the external velocity distribution and a Hilbert integral to allow the modification of the external velocity distribution by the displacement thickness. The results show that, as in two-dimensional flows, the extent of laminar flows with separation is very limited. Keywords: Flow separation bubbles; Boundary-layer separation; Interactive boundary layers; Three-dimensional flows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Cont.) three-dimensional flows, treating the case of open and closed separation separately. Next, we use a method developed by Perry and Chong (1986) to derive expansions of the Navier-Stokes equations that we use as models of three-dimensional separation. We verify our theory on those models. Finally we discuss new results on genuinely three-dimensional aspects of flow separation: open and closed separation, separation lines and separation surfaces.

Book Separation of Three Dimensional Flow

Download or read book Separation of Three Dimensional Flow written by K. C. Wang and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation patterns of three-dimensional flow are discussed here, partly on the basis of limited calculated results, but mostly on experimental observations and intuition. Generally the separation pattern is rather independent of whether the boundary layer is laminar or turbulent and whether the flow is incompressible or hypersonic. The difference is in degree, not character. Various three-dimensional separation criteria are reviewed and the open-vs-closed separation idea, particularly is presented, in detail. The bulk of this work is divided into three parts, dealing with the separation over elongated inclined bodies, airplane wings at incidence, and around the corners between intersecting bodies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Eighth Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows held at the Technical University of Munich, 9-11 September 1991. The first of these biennial international symposia was held at the Pennsylvania State Uni versity, USA, in 1977; subsequent symposia have been held at Imperial College, London, England; the University of California, Davis, USA; the University of Karlsruhe, Ger many; Cornell University, Ithaca, USA; the Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France; and Stanford University, California, USA. The purpose of this series of symposia is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of new developments in the field of turbulence, especially as related to shear flows of importance in engineering and geo physics. From the 330 extended abstracts submitted for this symposium, 145 papers were presented orally and 60 as posters. Out of these, we have selected twenty-four papers for inclusion in this volume, each of which has been revised and extended in accordance with the editors' recommendations. The following four theme areas were selected after consideration of the quality of the contributions, the importance of the area, and the selection made in earlier volumes: - wall flows, - separated flows, - compressibility effects, - buoyancy, rotation, and curvature effects. As in the past, each section corresponding to the above areas begins with an introduction by an authority in the field that places the individual contributions in context with one another and with related research.

Book Three dimensional Separated Flow Topology

Download or read book Three dimensional Separated Flow Topology written by Jean Délery and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops concepts and a methodology for a rational description of the organization of three-dimensional flows considering, in particular, the case where the flow is the place of separations. The descriptive analysis based on the critical point theory of Poincaré develops conventional but rather unfamiliar considerations from aerodynamicists, who face the understanding of complex flows including multiple separation lines and vortices. These problems concern industrial sectors where aerodynamics plays a key role, such as aerospace, ground vehicles, buildings, etc. Contents 1. Skin Friction Lines Pattern and Critical Points. 2. Separation Streamsurfaces and Vortex Structures. 3. Separated Flow on a Body. 4. Vortex Wake of Wings and Slender Bodies. 5. Separation Induced by an Obstacle or a Blunt Body. 6. Reconsideration of the Two-Dimensional Separation. 7. Concluding Remarks. About the Authors Jean Délery is a Supaero (French National Higher School of Aeronautics and Space) engineer who has worked at Onera (French national aerospace research center) since 1964. He has participated in several major French and European aerospace programs, is the author of many scientific publications, and has occupied various teaching positions particularly at Supaero, the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin, Ecole polytechnique in France and “La Sapienza” University in Rome, Italy. He is currently emeritus adviser at Onera.

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Book Vortical Flows

Download or read book Vortical Flows written by Jie-Zhi Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-23 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and intensive book for graduate students in fluid dynamics as well as scientists, engineers and applied mathematicians. Offering a systematic introduction to the physical theory of vortical flows at graduate level, it considers the theory of vortical flows as a branch of fluid dynamics focusing on shearing process in fluid motion, measured by vorticity. It studies vortical flows according to their natural evolution stages, from being generated to dissipated. As preparation, the first three chapters of the book provide background knowledge for entering vortical flows. The rest of the book deals with vortices and vortical flows, following their natural evolution stages. Of various vortices the primary form is layer-like vortices or shear layers, and secondary but stronger form is axial vortices mainly formed by the rolling up of shear layers. Problems are given at the end of each chapter and Appendix, some for helping understanding the basic theories, and some involving specific applications; but the emphasis of both is always on physical thinking.
