Book Short Stories Poems and Quotes

Download or read book Short Stories Poems and Quotes written by Joyce H. Chandler and published by . This book was released on 2005-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although technically puppies are young dogs, Puppy Pal Pointers: From the True Tails of Ripple and Jessie relates to dogs of all ages. The book consists of subjects that are pertinent to every devoted owner, including caring for, treating, understanding, treasuring, bonding with, and grieving for your cherished dog, plus tips on pet care for kids. Topics pertaining to dog care and responsible ownership are covered, such as parasite control, hygiene, overpopulation concerns, relationships with cats, the human-animal bond, pet loss, and the grief process. Puppy Pal Pointers is different from other books on pet care because it is told through the sage eyes of two beloved dogs (as shared with Pamela J. Wilson), including one who fearlessly faced life's challenges with only three legs. Endearing pictures of them in various activities, along with photos of their precious canine and feline peers, are used to accentuate points. The wise teachings of charming fictional friends, both furry and feathered, can be found in the following children's books, which were written by the person who belongs to Ripple and Jessie: Tales From Tubblewood: A Duck For All Seasons and Tales From Tubblewood Too: Miss Duck to the Rescue. Book excerpt: An irresistible gift for dog lovers: poems from the dogs' point of view, written by the well-known writers & poets who love them. Filled with canine inspiration, 64 of our most respected literary lights have looked at the world from their dogs' points of view & discovered a remarkable range of thought & feeling. In styles as diverse as Arthur Miller's "Lola's Lament," Cynthia Heimel's "Sally," & Stephen Dunn's "Buster's Visitation," the results are by turns hilarious, silly, & deeply moving-as individual as the dogs themselves. The dogs hold forth formally (sonnets! villanelles! haiku!) & in free verse about the things that most concern them: food, play, food, & their masters. Photographs & drawings of the pooch poets accompany the verses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cedro by Megan Baldrige In 2006, a casual jaunt with my son Jack to the dog shelter turned into a tumultuous ten-year friendship with an irascible, disobedient Black Lab-Chow named Cedro-after a mountain peak near our house in Cedar Crest, New Mexico. In the next few years, my family dispersed, due to divorce and four children's moves on to college. Cedro and I continued as a family of two who walked together every day, but experienced the world in distinctly different ways. Cedro lived in the moment, and prejudged others strongly by a codified system of judgement: raccoons, poodles and cats were unworthy of respect. Ducks were fair game and Labradoodles were not poodles. Despite many discussions with him about his rush to judge, he never budged an inch. Despite our mutual affection, we challenged each other daily. We each benefitted from our great friendship and we each came to understand the other's point of view, without ever agreeing. As is true of most dogs with big hearts, Cedro's life was too short. These poems are my attempt to describe, celebrate and understand my great friend.

Book The Dog s Book of Verse Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Dog s Book of Verse Classic Reprint written by J. Earl Clauson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-24 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dog's Book of Verse Matthew Arnold, explaining why those were his most popular poems which dealt with his canine pets, Geist, Kaiser, and Max, said that while comparatively few loved poetry, nearly everyone loved dogs. The literature of the anglo-saxon is rich in tributes to the dog, as becomes a race which beyond any other has understood and devel oped its four-footed companions. Canine heroes whose intelligence and faithfulness our prose writers have celebrated start to the mem ory in scores Bill Sykes's white shadow, which refused to be separated from its master even by death Rab, savagely devoted; the im mortal Bob, son of battle true souls all, with hardly a villain among them for artistic contrast. Even Red Wull, the killer, we admire for his courage and lealty. Within these covers is a selection from a large body of dog verse. It is a selection made on the principle of human appeal. Dia lect, and the poems of the earlier writers whose diction strikes oddly on our modern ears, have for the most part been omitted. The place of such classics as may be missed is filled by that vagrant verse which is often most truly the flower of inspiration. Book excerpt: An instructive and marvelously entertaining chronicle of a puppy's first year, by the executive editor of The New York Times One sparkling summer day, Jill Abramson brought home a nine-week-old golden retriever named Scout. Over the following year, as she and her husband raised their adorable new puppy, Abramson wrote a hugely popular column for The New York Times's website about the joys and challenges of training this rambunctious addition to their family. Dog-lovers from across the country inundated her with e-mails and letters, and the photos they sent in of their own dogs became the most visited photo album on the Times's site in 2009. Now Abramson has gone far beyond the material in her column and written a detailed and deeply personal account of Scout's first year. Part memoir, part manual, part investigative report, The Puppy Diaries continues Abramson's intrepid reporting on all things canine. Along the way, she weighs in on such issues as breeders or shelters, adoption or rescue, raw diet or vegan, pack-leader gurus like Cesar Millan or positive-reinforcement advocates like Karen Pryor. What should you expect when a new puppy enters your life? With utterly winning stories and a wealth of practical information, The Puppy Diaries provides an essential road map for navigating the first year of your dog's life.
