Book Transcultural Leadership

Download or read book Transcultural Leadership written by Carmen Vazquez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supervisors, project managers and CEOs should find this book useful as it deals with an emerging global reality - culturally diverse people of both genders in the workplace. The new workplace environment demands that employees be selected, evaluated and promoted on the basis of performance competency, regardless of sex, race, religion or place of origin. Focusing on workplace diversity instead of concepts of "majority" and "minority" allows managers to offer all personnel equal opportunities. Affirmative action is now aimed at developing human potential. Diversity is becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Written from the North American viewpoint, this book examines the key concepts that drive American plants and offices today which are likely to be realities overseas tomorrow, and the concepts espoused in this book can be applied universally. The book fills a gap in management education and development. It is a practical manual designed to teach and encourage managers to lead and strengthen the human resources of an organization.

Book Global Enterprise Management Volume II

Download or read book Global Enterprise Management Volume II written by A. Camillo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-03 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ongoing progress of globalization has created a new need in multinational and international companies for managers who have the skills and competencies to be rotated anywhere in the world. While most books addressing global management have focused on the practitioner experience, theory, or academic knowledge relevant to one region or country, Global Enterprise Management unites all these approaches in a practical framework designed to provide students, educators, and practitioners with the skills to succeed in the global managerial landscape. Inspired by his 35 years in international hospitality management, Camillo brings together an interdisciplinary team to break down the challenges facing managers in global companies, including supply chains, business ventures, technology, accounting, marketing, and human resources. A collection of real-world case studies grounds theory in contemporary practice and directs the conversation toward the future.

Book Culture Leadership and Organizations

Download or read book Culture Leadership and Organizations written by Robert J. House and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2004-04-29 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Culture, Leadership, and Organizations reports the results of a ten-year research program, the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) research program. GLOBE is a long-term program designed to conceptualize, operationalize, test, and validate a cross-level integrated theory of the relationship between culture and societal, organizational, and leadership effectiveness. A team of 160 scholars worked together since 1994 to study societal culture, organizational culture, and attributes of effective leadership in 62 cultures. Culture, Leadership, and Organizations: The GLOBE Study of 62 Societies reports the findings of the first two phases of GLOBE. The book is primarily based on the results of the survey of over 17,000 middle managers in three industries: banking, food processing, and telecommunications, as well as archival measures of country economic prosperity and the physical and psychological well-being of the cultures studied. GLOBE has several distinguishing features. First, it is truly a cross-cultural research program. The constructs were defined, conceptualized, and operationalized by the multicultural team of researchers. Second, the industries were selected through a polling of the country investigators, and the instruments were designed with the full participation of the researchers representing the different cultures. Finally, the data in each country were collected by investigators who were either natives of the cultures studied or had extensive knowledge and experience in that culture. A unique feature of this book is that while it is an edited book and many experts have written the different chapters, unlike other edited books, it is a fully integrated, seamless, and cohesive book covering the many aspects of the theory underpinning the GLOBE.

Book Unitary Developmental Theory and Organization Development Volume 2

Download or read book Unitary Developmental Theory and Organization Development Volume 2 written by Myles Sweeney and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces Unitary Developmental Theory (UDT) to the field of organization development. The second of two volumes, it introduces the UDT model and examines its application to organization development and change management. The book presents UDT comprising seven developmental levels, showing how using its methodical progression can help to avoid issues such as unsustainable growth and change failure while examining how the model improves collaboration, digital transformation, change management and team development. It shows how the model clinically transforms concepts such as culture which is often cited as the cause of failure for change, re-defining it as habituated maturation stage and simplifying culture change accordingly. This book is designed to accompany Volume 1 which details the psychology of the model and its equal applicability to mental-health recovery. Showing how UDT can be used as an overarching model to optimize organization development, this book will be of great interest to researchers, scholars and postgraduate students from the fields of organizational psychology, organization development and change management.

Book Cross Cultural Management

Download or read book Cross Cultural Management written by Jean-François Chanlat and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-24 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All cultures appear to share the belief that they do things ‘correctly’, while others, until proven otherwise, are assumed to be ignorant or barbaric. When people from different cultures work together and cannot take shared meanings for granted, managers face serious challenges. An individual’s parsing of an experience and its meaning may vary according to several cultural scales – national, professional, industrial and local. Awareness of cultural differences and the willingness to view them as a positive are therefore crucial assets. This edited textbook sets itself apart from existing cross-cultural management texts by highlighting to the reader the need to avoid both ethnocentrism and the belief in the universality of his or her own values and ways of thinking: the success of international negotiations and intercultural management depends on such openness and acceptance of real differences. It encourages the development of ‘nomadic intelligence’ and the creative use of a culture’s resources, according to a symbolic anthropology perspective. Through the essays and case studies in the chapters, readers will become aware of the intercultural dimension of business activities and better understand how they affect work. Cross-Cultural Management will help interested parties – students of business management, international relations and other disciplines, and business managers and other professionals – develop their ability to interact, take action and give direction in an intercultural context.

The book is divided into two clear parts to logically guide the reader through the key theoretical models of leadership, as well as the issues and themes that surround the subject. Part 1 examines the main theories in the field, including situational and contingency theories, behavioural models, and trait theory, while Part 2 draws on a number of different themes to add depth to the theoretical ideas discussed, such as diversity, power, and ethics. To help to interpret the key theories, the book also illustrates leadership in action using a wealth of diverse case studies, 50% of which are new for this third edition.
