Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tree of Life The tree of life is so like man, ever stretching to the skies It s branches ever reaching upwards, as though to heaven above Like man s quest here on earth, to reach for that high unknown The tree requires the staples of life, for its very existence here But man in his slight wisdom, knows these details all too clear The tree roots, securely planted, are not allowed to roam But man s feet here on earth. Have mobility all their own Unlike the tree, man does possess a single separate entity A brain you see, though seldom used, a total shame indeed The tree of life depends on man, for its daily life s survival Man depends on his own life s skills to hopefully see his tomorrow Which is a sad virtue, for his thinking process is not always clear He makes good and bad decisions, its effects are not yet known Man should take his life s lessons, from the tree of life pursuit As our single life s true purpose, to reach for heaven above As the tree stretches forth its limbs, ever skyward, in its growth We should heed this very lesson, and praise the Lord above For all that He has done for mankind and this our earth as well

Book excerpt: The stories related in this collection share a common theme, that is, they describe incidents in which the main characters consistently display the ability and the courage to say or to do ‘the right thing,’ no matter what. By exemplifying virtues such as piety, integrity, honesty and self-discipline, these people confirm to us that standing up for what is right during times of challenge and controversy is the best way to teach others. They bring truth to the adage that states: ‘Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.’

Download or read book Passing Thoughts To Ponder and a Tribute to Women and Romance written by David M Rosso M D and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life has become so busy, and the pace has become so fast, that we've begun to lose our focus. The first section of this book, "Passing Thoughts.to Ponder.," was written in order to share thoughts, anecdotes, and concepts with the hope that we could regain our perspective, and learn to appreciate life again. Part of that 'perspective' also deals with the areas of romance and chivalry. Somewhere along the line, those concepts seem to have gotten lost in the shuffle of day to day life. Because of the many demands of life, 'corners' are being cut.and one of the first things to go, unfortunately, is in the realm of romance. Chivalry also has been a 'casualty of modern times'. Because it has become so relatively rare, many women have conceded, and have lowered their expectations. (I would venture to say that many women have become accustomed to the absence of such once common-place acts as having a door held for them.) As expectations have declined, the number of chivalrous acts has plummeted to unprecedented lows. Women should not have to settle for being treated as anything less than a 'lady'. As expectations climb, a 'renaissance of chivalry' will follow. We need to raise our daughters to expect it, and our sons in such a manner that these acts become second-nature. "A Tribute to Women and Romance" was written in appreciation of the true beauty which exists uniquely within every woman.a beauty which frequently goes unacknowledged by the woman, herself. This section also addresses the 'art of romance'. It is my hope that this book will prompt a revitalization.a 'new age' of old-fashioned romance and chivalry.

Download or read book Philosophy written by Ayn Rand and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1984-11-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays was the last work planned by Ayn Rand before her death in 1982. In it, she summarizes her view of philosophy and deals with a broad spectrum of topics. According to Ayn Rand, the choice we make is not whether to have a philosophy, but which one to have: rational, conscious, and therefore practical; or contradictory, unidentified, and ultimately lethal. Written with all the clarity and eloquence that have placed Ayn Rand’s Objectivist philosophy in the mainstream of American thought, these essays range over such basic issues as education, morality, censorship, and inflation to prove that philosophy is the fundamental force in all our lives.

Book excerpt: It may sound just a little crazy, but embracing boredom will enrich your life. As a modern society, we avoid boredom like the plague. Boredom is painful. Boredom is an idle, restless discomfort, and a vacant, empty mind craves distraction. Yes, it might be uncomfortable but do not run from it or try to drown it in endless meaningless activities or shallow thought. Do you want your life to have meaning? Do you wish to exercise your creativity? Do you want to love and be loved? Don't let fear limit your questions and constrict your life as you drown in a sea of self-soothing digital-distraction. Put your smartphone away. Turn off the television and unplug your computer. Learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and ponder difficult issues. You need to embrace boredom to free up your thinking. If you run from boredom, you will quickly lose your ability to think. It will be uncomfortable, but it will be worthwhile. Boredom is not your enemy; it is your awkward friend.Every soul has a cellar, a place of repressed insults and offenses, a cold, dark storage shed of disappointment, and unresolved anguish. We want this cellar to be an out-of-sight storage container in another state, but in reality, it is something we carry with us everywhere we go. If you choose to disregard what is in your cellar, it will eventually rise and hurt you. It may take time, but ultimately, it will show up as anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, depression, anxiety, hopelessness, despair, or any of many other self-destructive misery factors. Embrace boredom by thinking about meaningful things, gratitude, forgiveness, creativity, problem-solving, and personal growth.Ponder and write down your musings, and write a gratitude journal. You owe it to yourself to ponder. Pondering will enrich your life.Boredom is a mental stew made with a dash of loneliness, a cup of felt meaninglessness, a sprig of powerlessness, a scent of mortality in a pot of spiritual emptiness. If you expect to live a full and meaningful life, you will need to be willing to wander into the swamp of boredom and take some time to ponder essential life issues. Without this pondering, you will scramble for the next distraction, unable to find meaning or purpose, unable to love or recognize when you are loved. If you live in fear of the darkness of boredom, it will leave you feeling even more alone and isolated.
