Book Water Waves Generated by Underwater Explosion

Download or read book Water Waves Generated by Underwater Explosion written by Bernard Le Mehaute and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book on explosion-generated water waves. It presents the theoretical foundations and experimental results of the generation and propagation of impulsively generated waves resulting from underwater explosions. Many of the theories and concepts presented herein are applicable to other types of water waves, in particular, tsunamis and waves generated by the fall of a meteorite. Linear and nonlinear theories, as well as experimental calibrations, are presented for cases of deep and shallow water explosions. Propagation of transient waves on dissipative, nonuniform bathymetries together with laboratory simulations are analyzed and discussed.

Book Water Waves Produced by Explosions Classic Reprint

Download or read book Water Waves Produced by Explosions Classic Reprint written by Herbert C. Kranzer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-21 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Water Waves Produced by Explosions In our analysis we assume that the surface elevation n and the accompanying water motion, are symmetric about an axis through the center of the disturbance. If r denotes distance from this axis and t denotes time then we may write n We also assume that the water is of finite uniform depth, which we denote by h and that the linear theory of surface waves is applicable. Both of these assumptions will be analysed in a later report. In the next two sections we present and discuss the results of our analyses for the cases of initial impulse and initial displacement respectively. Typical graphs of the wave height as a function of r and of t are included. Then in section IV these resulte are applied to the problem of wave production by explosions. The mathematical analysis is contained in an appendix. A list of references to previous work on this subject is appended. Of the previous work the earliest, that of Poisson is the most relevant. However he considers water of infinite depth. Furthermore he obtains detailed results only for paraboloidal and ellipsoidal depressions. Burnside [h] also considers infinite depth, but only twodimensional motion. He obtains a series for the wave motion produced by an initial elevation of very spe01al shape. Book Research on the Generation and Propagation of Water Waves Produced by Underwater Explosions Part Iv a Generalized Method for Predicting the Surface Water Wave Spectrum

Download or read book Research on the Generation and Propagation of Water Waves Produced by Underwater Explosions Part Iv a Generalized Method for Predicting the Surface Water Wave Spectrum written by NATIONAL MARINE CONSULTANTS ANAHEIM CA. and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this report is to combine all theoretical efforts to date and new theoretical developments under this contract into an effective method for predicting the surface water wave spectrum generated by surface or underwater explosions. Particular importance has been stressed on the data presentation in order to facilitate the use of this prediction method by those unfamiliar with the complicated analysis of the phenomena involved. The data is presented, in large, by graphical means and the user may obtain all pertinent information about the initial wave envelope by merely reading a series of graphs and performing some elementary multiplications. More detailed information about the actual waves present in the envelope may be obtained by some table searching and a minimal number of elementary multiplications. (Author).

Book The Surface Waves from Shallow Underwater Explosions Formulae and Program Specifications

Download or read book The Surface Waves from Shallow Underwater Explosions Formulae and Program Specifications written by A. N. Hicks and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a summary and review of the theoretical analysis and formulae which are used for the prediction of the surface wave systems resulting from shallow underwater explosions. A two-parameter formula for such wave systems is derived and used to deduce their characteristics, which are discussed in some detail. The theoretical results are compared with the limited experimental data available. The specifications are given for four PEGASUS Autocode programs which evaluate the formulae. (Author).

Book Theory and Applications of Ocean Surface Waves Nonlinear aspects

Download or read book Theory and Applications of Ocean Surface Waves Nonlinear aspects written by Chiang C. Mei and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an expanded version of The Applied Dynamics of Ocean Surface Waves. It presents theoretical topics on ocean wave dynamics, including basic principles and applications in coastal and offshore engineering as well as coastal oceanography. Advanced analytical and numerical techniques are applied, such as singular perturbations. In this expanded edition, two chapters on recent developments have been added: one is on multiple scattering by periodic or random bathymetry, and the other is on Zakharov's theory of broad spectrum wave fields. New sections include topics on infragravity waves, upstream solitons, Venice storm gates, etc. In addition, there are many new exercises. Theory and Applications of Ocean Surface Waves will be invaluable for graduate students and researchers in coastal and ocean engineering, geophysical fluid dynamicists interested in water waves, and theoretical scientists and applied mathematicians wishing to develop new techniques for challenging problems or to apply techniques existing elsewhere.
