Book Introduction to Analysis in Several Variables Advanced Calculus

Download or read book Introduction to Analysis in Several Variables Advanced Calculus written by Michael E. Taylor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text was produced for the second part of a two-part sequence on advanced calculus, whose aim is to provide a firm logical foundation for analysis. The first part treats analysis in one variable, and the text at hand treats analysis in several variables. After a review of topics from one-variable analysis and linear algebra, the text treats in succession multivariable differential calculus, including systems of differential equations, and multivariable integral calculus. It builds on this to develop calculus on surfaces in Euclidean space and also on manifolds. It introduces differential forms and establishes a general Stokes formula. It describes various applications of Stokes formula, from harmonic functions to degree theory. The text then studies the differential geometry of surfaces, including geodesics and curvature, and makes contact with degree theory, via the Gauss–Bonnet theorem. The text also takes up Fourier analysis, and bridges this with results on surfaces, via Fourier analysis on spheres and on compact matrix groups.

Book Advanced Calculus of Several Variables

Download or read book Advanced Calculus of Several Variables written by C. H. Edwards and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Calculus of Several Variables provides a conceptual treatment of multivariable calculus. This book emphasizes the interplay of geometry, analysis through linear algebra, and approximation of nonlinear mappings by linear ones. The classical applications and computational methods that are responsible for much of the interest and importance of calculus are also considered. This text is organized into six chapters. Chapter I deals with linear algebra and geometry of Euclidean n-space Rn. The multivariable differential calculus is treated in Chapters II and III, while multivariable integral calculus is covered in Chapters IV and V. The last chapter is devoted to venerable problems of the calculus of variations. This publication is intended for students who have completed a standard introductory calculus sequence.

Book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition

Download or read book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, the author presents univariate and multivariate probabilistic inequalities with coverage on basic probabilistic entities like expectation, variance, moment generating function and covariance. These are built on the recent classical form of real analysis inequalities which are also discussed in full details. This treatise is the culmination and crystallization of the author's last two decades of research work in related discipline. Each of the chapters is self-contained and a few advanced courses can be taught out of this book. Extensive background and motivations for specific topics are given in each chapter. A very extensive list of references is also provided at the end.The topics covered in this unique book are wide-ranging and diverse. The opening chapters examine the probabilistic Ostrowski type inequalities, and various related ones, as well as the largely discusses about the Grothendieck type probabilistic inequalities. The book is also about inequalities in information theory and the Csiszar's f-Divergence between probability measures. A great section of the book is also devoted to the applications in various directions of Geometry Moment Theory. Also, the development of the Grüss type and Chebyshev-Grüss type inequalities for Stieltjes integrals and the applications in probability are explored in detail. The final chapters discuss the important real analysis methods with potential applications to stochastics. The book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students, and it is also seen as an invaluable reference book to be acquired by all science libraries as well as seminars that conduct discussions on related topics.

Book Abstract Spaces and Approximation Abstrakte R ume und Approximation

Download or read book Abstract Spaces and Approximation Abstrakte R ume und Approximation written by Butzer and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present conference took place at Oberwolfach, July 18-27, 1968, as a direct follow-up on a meeting on Approximation Theory [1] held there from August 4-10, 1963. The emphasis was on theoretical aspects of approximation, rather than the numerical side. Particular importance was placed on the related fields of functional analysis and operator theory. Thirty-nine papers were presented at the conference and one more was subsequently submitted in writing. All of these are included in these proceedings. In addition there is areport on new and unsolved problems based upon a special problem session and later communications from the partici pants. A special role is played by the survey papers also presented in full. They cover a broad range of topics, including invariant subspaces, scattering theory, Wiener-Hopf equations, interpolation theorems, contraction operators, approximation in Banach spaces, etc. The papers have been classified according to subject matter into five chapters, but it needs little emphasis that such thematic groupings are necessarily arbitrary to some extent. The Proceedings are dedicated to the memory of Jean Favard. It was Favard who gave the Oberwolfach Conference of 1963 a special impetus and whose absence was deeply regretted this time. An appreciation of his li fe and contributions was presented verbally by Georges Alexits, while the written version bears the signa tures of both Alexits and Marc Zamansky. Our particular thanks are due to E.

Book excerpt: The Sobolev spaces, i. e. the classes of functions with derivatives in L , occupy p an outstanding place in analysis. During the last two decades a substantial contribution to the study of these spaces has been made; so now solutions to many important problems connected with them are known. In the present monograph we consider various aspects of Sobolev space theory. Attention is paid mainly to the so called imbedding theorems. Such theorems, originally established by S. L. Sobolev in the 1930s, proved to be a useful tool in functional analysis and in the theory of linear and nonlinear par tial differential equations. We list some questions considered in this book. 1. What are the requirements on the measure f1, for the inequality q
