Download or read book The Georgian Passion of Sts Theodore Julian Eubulus Malcamon Mocimus Salamanes written by D.P. Curtin and published by Dalcassian Press. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a work that is fragmentary in the form that it survives. It is drawn upon a Georgian manuscript composed around the 13th or 14th century, relating events of Christian Martyrs during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. These events either appears as a leaf from a synaxarium or an older work of hagiography that appears to have traveled through the Sassanian Empire before arriving in Georgia prior to the 6th century. Its manuscript source is unknown as it has no known parallels in the lives of medieval saints. The martyrs themselves are said to have been residing in Roman Arabia, near the mercantile city of Petra at the end of the 3rd century. This work therefore provides a rare insight into the little known world of early Arabic Christianity, and make some curious allusion to a place called 'Bacca', otherwise only noted in the Quran.
Download or read book Karen Memory written by Elizabeth Bear and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Bear pumps fresh energy in the steampunk genre with a light touch on the gadgetry and a vivid sense of place . . . Karen and the ladies kick ass.” —Library Journal (starred review) Set in the late nineteenth century—when the city we now call Seattle Underground was the whole town (and still on the surface), when airships plied the trade routes, would-be gold miners were heading to the gold fields of Alaska, and steam-powered mechanicals stalked the waterfront, Karen Memery (“like memory only spelt with an e”) is a young woman on her own, making the best of her orphaned state by working in Madame Damnable’s high-quality bordello. Through Karen’s eyes we get to know the other girls in the house—a resourceful group—and the poor and the powerful of the town. Trouble erupts one night when a badly injured girl arrives at their door, begging for sanctuary, followed by the man who holds her indenture, and who has a machine that can take over anyone’s mind and control their actions. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the next night brings a body dumped in their rubbish heap—a streetwalker who has been brutally murdered. Bear brings alive this Jack-the-Ripper yarn of the old west with a light touch in Karen’s own memorable voice, and a mesmerizing evocation of classic steam-powered science. “[A] rollicking, suspenseful, and sentimental steampunk novel . . . [Karen’s] story is a timeless one: a woman doing what is needed to get by while dreaming and fighting for great things to come.” —Publishers Weekly

Even though it's claimed he died of natural causes, Teddy smells something fishy and it sure ain't the polar bear's lunch. Dealing with the zoo's top brass proves to be nothing but a waste of time. They want to see any trace of Henry's death disappear like yesterday's paper. So Teddy sets out to find the truth. With the help of Summer McCraken, a fiesty girl with secrets of her own, the two narrow down their prime suspects. Is it Martin Del Gato, FunJungle's head of operations who hates kids and hates animals even more? Or J.J McCraken, the owner of FunJungle and and hates animals even more? Or J.J McCraken, the owner of FunJungle and Summer's father, who has more concern for the dough he's raking in than the animals in the zoo? As their investigation goes on, Teddy gets squeezed on all sides to quit asking questions or Henry won't be the only animal in the zoo to turn up dead. The deeper Teddy and Summer get, they had better make sure they want to know what they want to know because when it comes to hippo homicide, the truth can't be kept in a cage!
