This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Wool Situation: April 9, 1937 Domestic wool prices probably will show little change during the early months of the 1937 marketing season which begins this month, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics reports. Price changes in the latter part of 1937 will depend to a considerable extent upon the demand from domestic manufacturers and on price changes in foreign markets when the new Southern Hemisphere selling season opens in the fall. Consumption of wool by domestic mills continued large in February. On the basis of sales and unfilled orders reported by mills, activity is expected to continue at a relatively high level for the next few months. It is possible, however, that the high activity in January and February was due in part to early placing of orders, and may have been at the expense of activity later in the year. Because of large imports in recent months, supplies of wool in the United States on March 1 were estimated to be slightly larger than a year earlier but were below the average of recent years. Stocks of old clip domestic wool were small and domestic production in 1937 is not expected to show much change from that of last year. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Wool Situation: November 11, 1937 Most factors in the wool situation now indie prices in 1938 may average lower than in 1937, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Wool prices are now rather high in relation to prices of other textile materials. World supplies of wool in 1938 probably will be slightly larger than in the present year, the Bureau points out; although they will be below average. Mill consumption of wool in this country and possibly in some foreign countries in 1938 is expected to be smaller than in the present year. The total supply of apparel wool in the United States on October 1 was estimated to be about 15 percent larger than a year earlier, but it was smaller than in a number of other recent years. Since stocks of such wool held by dealers and manufacturers in late September Were only about 5 percent larger than a year earlier, the quantity of wool held in the producing States on October I apparently was larger than on October 1 last year. At the beginning of October apparent supplies of wool for the 1937-38 selling season in the five principal wool-producing countries of the Southern Hemisphere were slightly larger than a year earlier, but they were slightly smaller than the average for early October inthe five preceding years. Although wool production in these five countries in 1937 was tentatively estimated to be about 3 percent larger than that of last year. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Wool Situation: August 1961 The outlook for the world wool industry for the coming marketing year is encouraging. World stocks of raw wool and wool products are relatively low. Prices are firm, with the trade expecting moderate increases in world prices with the opening of the 1961-62 marketing season. World wool production and consumption are at record high levels. Mill activity in most of the major manufacturing countries is be ginning to increase after declining during the latter part of 1960. Technological advances and increased promotional activity may partially offset the increasing inter-fiber competition. The domestic wool industry has partially recovered from the short-term recession of late 1960 and early 1961. Mill activity, although below year earlier levels, is increasing. Average prices received by producers are lower than last year at the same time. Imports of wool products are less than a year ago; exports, up moderately. Imports of raw wool are slightly above the relatively low level of the same period last year. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Wool Situation, Vol. 19: July 9, 1938 Although little change in domestic wool prices immediate future, some strengthening in prices may occur before the end of the year, the Bureau of Agricultural Economics reports. Stocks of finished and semi-finished goods probably have been sharply reduced in recent months, and some recovery in mill consumption of wool from present low levels appears likely for the late summer and fall. Prices in foreign markets may continue steady in View of prospects for some decrease in production in the Southern Hemisphere. Supplies of raw wool in the United States at the present time are considerably larger than at the same time in 1936 and 1937. But if imports remain small, as now appears likely, an increase in consumption in the latter part of 1938 over that of a year earlier might result in smaller stocks of wool on January 1, 1939, than at the beginning of the'current year. But stocks probably will remain relatively large. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Wool Situation Vol 96 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-12 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wool Situation, Vol. 96: August 1971 World wool prices have shown modest recovery in recent months, after sliding to very low levels. With a continued firm tone expected in world markets this fall and winter, prices of domestic wool should improve a little. U.s. Wool production as estimated in July will total slightly less than last year. Domestic wool mill activity, which trended downward during 1970, and then stabilized this spring, may display some recovery in this year's closing months, given some pickup in the general economy. Growers' prices of shorn wool likely will pick up a little in the months ahead. But so far this season they have run sharply below a year earlier due to weakened demand conditions. The season-average price this year may be around 25 cents a pound, grease basis, about a dime below 1970. U.s. Production of shorn wool this year will total about 155 million pounds, grease basis, 4 percent less than 1970. The number of sheep shorn is declining 2 percent and fleece weights are averaging lighter. Wool production is declining a little more in the Native wool States than in the 11 Western States, Texas, and South Dakota.
