What happens when you are unprepared for living? Where do you go when the god they’ve promised is not the one you find? In this memoir, Sharek Gadd reveals an emotional toil few have the courage or strength to explore and share. Book Holocaust Cinema Complete

Download or read book Holocaust Cinema Complete written by Rich Brownstein and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2021-09-17 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holocaust movies have become an important segment of world cinema and the de-facto Holocaust education for many. One quarter of all American-produced Holocaust-related feature films have won or been nominated for at least one Oscar. In fact, from 1945 through 1991, half of all American Holocaust features were nominated. Yet most Holocaust movies have fallen through the cracks and few have been commercially successful. This book explores these trends--and many others--with a comprehensive guide to hundreds of films and made-for-television movies. From Anne Frank to Schindler's List to Jojo Rabbit, more than 400 films are examined from a range of perspectives--historical, chronological, thematic, sociological, geographical and individual. The filmmakers are contextualized, including Charlie Chaplin, Sidney Lumet, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Roman Polanski. Recommendations and reviews of the 50 best Holocaust films are included, along with an educational guide, a detailed listing of all films covered and a four-part index-glossary.

This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Black Country" is an area historically known as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution—a thriving regioin built around deep coal seams, conjuring up images of fiery red furnaces by night and black, sooty citadels by day. Yet today the resource-rich region also features many striking public sculptures. This volume provides a comprehensive catalog to all of the historic sculptures and public monuments in Staffordshire and the Black Country. George Noszlopy and Fiona Waterhouse catalog each individual sculpture in detail, including information about the sculptor, the sculpture's historical and artistic significance, the commissioning agent, and the date of installation. The volume also features 350 black-and-white photographs that document the diverse and rich beauty of the region's public monuments. The ninth volume in the widely acclaimed, award-winning Public Sculpture of Britain series, Public Sculpture of Staffordshire and the Black Country is an invaluable resource for British historians, art scholars, and travelers alike.

Book The Holocaust and World War II

Download or read book The Holocaust and World War II written by Wendy Koenig and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holocaust and World War II: In History and In Memory is a thematic volume of nineteen articles based on papers presented at the 9th Middle Tennessee State University International Holocaust Studies Conference in October, 2009. It focuses on the connection between World War II and the Holocaust as it was lived as well as how it is remembered, commemorated and taught. It is interdisciplinary in terms of subject and content, and it explores a variety of methodological approaches to the topic, including historical analysis, pedagogy, oral testimony, literary criticism and museology. The volume features three articles written by the conference’s featured speakers. Two of them were authored by the keynote speaker, internationally acclaimed historian Gerhard L. Weinberg. Arguably the world’s foremost authority on WWII, Weinberg is the author of A World at Arms: A Global History of World War II and several other prize-winning books. He contributes “World War II: A Brief History” and an article titled “Roosevelt, Truman and the Holocaust” that evaluates the difficult decisions concerning the Holocaust made by two American presidents. The second featured speaker, Raffael Scheck, author of Hitler’s African Victims: The German Army Massacres of Black French Soldiers in 1940, contributes an article titled “Racial Hatred: The German Army Massacres of Black French Soldiers in 1940” to this volume. Scheck’s essay places the experiences of these black French African prisoners of war into the broader context of the treatment of black people by the Nazis. The remaining sixteen articles, contributed by prominent scholars from North America, Europe and Asia, represent a broad spectrum of disciplines, methodological approaches, and points of view concerning the Holocaust and the Second World War. The editors believe this anthology will be both an important acquisition for libraries and a useful tool for scholars, teachers, researchers and general readers interested in the World War II era as well as in the Holocaust.

Book Visions of War

Download or read book Visions of War written by M. Paul Holsinger and published by Popular Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Americans World War II was "a good war," a war that was worth fighting. Even as the conflict was underway, a myriad of both fictional and nonfictional books began to appear examining one or another of the raging battles. These essays examine some of the best literature and popular culture of World War II. Many of the studies focus on women, several are about children, and all concern themselves with the ways that the war changed lives. While many of the contributors concern themselves with the United States, there are essays about Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Japan.
