But modern-day cabaret does much more than preserve the past—it also promotes and fosters the new generation of American composers and creates a uniquely vibrant musical and theatrical experience for its audiences. So You Want to Sing Cabaret is the first book of its kind to examine in detail the unique vocal and nonvocal requirements for professional performance within the exciting genre of cabaret. With a foreword by cabaret legend Lorna Luft, So You Want to Sing Cabaret includes interviews from the top professionals in the cabaret industry, including Michael Feinstein, Ann Hampton Callaway, Roy Sander, Sidney Myer, Jeff Harner and many others. There are also chapters devoted to crafting your show, lyric connection, “do-it-yourself” production and promotion, and working with your musical team. David Sabella and Sue Matsuki have crafted the perfect one-volume resource for both the aspiring cabaret singer and the singing teacher who seeks to learn more about this unique art form. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My Friend JIMI" by G. B. Bosque is an innovative and captivating biography that delves into the life and artistic journey of the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix. The unique aspect of this book lies in the narrative perspective, as the author chooses to tell the story through the voice of a fictitious friend named Jojo Edwards. The book is structured into various chapters, each providing an insightful glimpse into different phases of Jimi Hendrix's life. Beginning with an introduction that sets the stage for the reader, Bosque takes us through Jimi's roots and upbringing, exploring his early experiences that shaped the iconic artist. From there, the narrative unfolds to cover Jimi's early musical endeavors, his time in the military, and the development of his distinctive musical style during the early music days. As Jojo Edwards recounts the formation of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, readers are taken on a journey through pivotal moments in Hendrix's career. The exploration of albums such as "Are You Experienced?" and the significance of the Monterey Pop Festival showcases the impact of Hendrix on the music scene of his time. Bosque meticulously details each phase of Hendrix's discography, including the albums "Axis: Bold as Love" and "Electric Ladyland." The narrative also covers the breakup of The Experience, Jimi's iconic performance at Woodstock, and the formation of the Band of Gypsys. The Cry of Love Tour, Electric Lady Studios, and the European Tour are explored in detail, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of Hendrix's musical evolution. The biography delves into the darker aspects of Hendrix's life, addressing his struggles with drugs and alcohol. The book sensitively navigates the circumstances leading to Jimi's untimely death, providing a poignant exploration of the tragic event. One intriguing aspect is the section on "Unauthorized Jams Unleashed Beyond the Grave," which adds a mysterious dimension to the narrative, exploring posthumous releases and the enduring influence of Jimi Hendrix's music. Bosque also dedicates chapters to Jimi's guitars, amps, effects, and influences, shedding light on the technical aspects of his musical genius. The book concludes with an exploration of Jimi's lasting legacy and his impact on the world of music. "My Friend JIMI" stands out not only for its comprehensive coverage of Hendrix's life and works but also for its innovative approach to non-fiction storytelling. G. B. Bosque's use of "purposeful fiction" through the perspective of a fictitious friend adds a personal touch, making the biography engaging and accessible to modern readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final volume details the last decade of Marshall's life. This seventh and final volume of The Papers of George Catlett Marshall covers the last ten years of Marshall’s life, when he served as secretary of defense from September 1950 to September 1951 following a year as American Red Cross president. Dramatic swings in fortune for US and UN forces in Korea consumed him as defense secretary, yet Europe remained Marshall’s strategic focus and with it the establishment of a NATO military command, efforts to convince the French to accept German rearmament, congressional approval for a major US military buildup, and a Mutual Security Program for America’s allies. Marshall also participated in the decision to relieve General Douglas MacArthur, sparking public uproar and a Senate investigation. Marshall remained active and honored in retirement, particularly in 1953, when he led the US delegation to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and then became the first professional soldier to win the Nobel Peace Prize, a tribute to the Marshall Plan. Through it all, he maintained an extensive correspondence with national and international leaders. When he died on October 16, 1959, George Catlett Marshall was hailed by many as the nation’s greatest soldier-statesman since George Washington.

On the eve of the Cuban Missile crisis, the lives of Jimmy and Patrick Doyle are shattered as surely as if the button had been pushed. Together and apart, the brothers experience the fear and uncertainty of intergenerational trauma, the justice system, incarceration, and the Vietnam War as well as the heady 1960s counterculture, the anti-war movement, exile, wilderness, and survival against overwhelming odds. Through it all, the brothers search for the human connections they've lost, as they struggle against the inexorable forces arrayed against them until they must face yet another personal apocalypse--and betrayal of their brotherhood.
