Book The VisionQuest Program

Download or read book The VisionQuest Program written by Peter W. Greenwood and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 1987 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1981, the San Diego Juvenile Court began placing chronic delinquents in a privately run, out-of-state program called VisionQuest. This report compares the recidivism rates for the first group of San Diego VisionQuest graduates with groups of similar San Diego delinquents who were placed in other correctional programs. It also examines a number of issues that have been major points of contention between the San Diego Probation Department and VisionQuest since the use of the program was first considered. The authors estimate that placement in VisionQuest reduced the probability that a youth would be rearrested within one year of release from 71 percent to 39 percent, making it more successful than the comparison groups. VisionQuest graduates also demonstrated a lower average annual post-release arrest rate.

Book excerpt: Blending numerous heritages, wisdoms, and teachings, this powerfully wrought book encourages people to take charge of their lives, heal themselves, and grow. Movingly rendered, The Book of the Vision Quest is for all who long for renewal and personal transformation. In this revised edition—with two new chapters and added tales from vision questers—Steven Foster recounts his experiences guiding contemporary seekers. He recreates an ancient rite of passage—that of “dying,” “passing through,” and “being reborn”—known as a vision quest. A sacred ceremony that culminates in a three-day, three-night fast, alone, in a place of natural power, the vision quest is a mystical, practical, and intensely personal journey of self-knowledge.

Book Cuban Refugee Resettlement

Download or read book Cuban Refugee Resettlement written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on a firm's Cuban entrant program, focusing on: (1) the amount and sources of federal funds it received; (2) how it spent the federal funds; (3) the propriety of its paying for leases with federal funds; and (4) how the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) carried out its administrative responsibilities. GAO found that the firm: (1) received about $1.7 million from the Social Security Administration's Office of Refugee Resettlement, $16.5 million from the NIMH Refugee Mental Health Program, and $585,000 from the Department of Justice's Community Relations Service; (2) provided community-based mental health services to 245 Cuban youth resettling in the United States; (3) did not comply with its proposed 18-month maximum participation limit until NIMH issued a policy guideline limiting participation to 6 to 9 months; (4) could not evaluate its program's effectiveness, since it did not follow up on participants after discharge; and (5) spent $196,150 more than it was authorized to during three award periods. GAO also found that NIMH did not: (1) adjust program funding to reflect the varied number of participants during different award periods; (2) adequately document or maintain program-related proposals, budget requests and cooperative agreements, program expenditures, or monitoring reports; (3) develop an indirect cost rate and allowed the firm to charge the government $2.4 million in indirect costs it categorized as burden allocation; (4) take any enforcement action for the firm's failure to timely submit acceptable financial status reports; or (5) maintain adequate documentation to support the propriety of the firm's charging the government for the costs of its leasing arrangements.

Book Vision Quest

Download or read book Vision Quest written by Peter James Ford and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2023-12-13 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “VISION QUEST” is a book recording the continual soul expansion of the seeker, Peter James Ford. Peter’s journey began after a powerful spiritual experience in the little historic seaport in Newburyport, Massachusetts. In Peter’s late night meditations which were along the Merrimac River, the boardwalk, the Salisbury Reservation on the Atlantic Ocean, Plum Island, Maudsley Estate State Park, Pow Wow Hill (Native American Burial Grounds) and Old Hill Burial Grounds he was having vivid explosions in his mind of ‘seemingly’ past life experiences and powerful insights. Peter began seeing the hidden secrets of this quaint little seaport that people never take the time to see. Peter’s intuition and senses increased in an almost scary powerful way giving Peter wisdom from unseen sources. The source may be the Akashic Records/Library that is not a physical library but a place in the ethers that contains all the wisdom and knowledge ever known to anyone over the eons. We can access this power through ancient spiritual practices and apparently Peter has done just that. Stories and Tales began flowing from Peter and he wrote his first book. In the last three years Peter has written eight more books and shares everything he has found from his journeys to the inner worlds. Peter wrote a seven-book series under the title “MYSTICISM IN NEWBURYPORT” with an eighth bonus/companion book called “MYSTIC”. Now you are holding his new writings in your hands. Peter laughingly calls himself “An Unlikely Messenger” as his younger years were nothing resembling anything spiritual. So, here is the story of just another seeker realizing his divinity and returning to his own heart...
