Book The Tyranny of Heaven

Download or read book The Tyranny of Heaven written by Michael Bryson and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tyranny of Heaven argues for a new way of reading the figure of Milton's God, contending that Milton rejects kings on earth and in heaven. Though Milton portrays God as a king in Paradise Lost, he does this neither to endorse kingship nor to recommend a monarchical model of deity. Instead, he recommends the Son, who in Paradise Regained rejects external rule as the model of politics and theology for Milton's fit audience though few. The portrait of God in Paradise Lost serves as a scathing critique of the English people and its slow but steady backsliding into the political habits of a nation long used to living under the yoke of kingship, a nation that maintained throughout its brief period of liberty the image of God as a heavenly king, and finally welcomed with open arms the return of a human king. Michael Bryson is a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Northwestern University.

The latest to vanish is Braoin, a seventeen-year-old painter whose mother came to Dubric’s aid when he most needed it. All Dubric knows is that the boy is still alive. But time is running out, and it isn’t only Braoin’s life hanging in the balance. If Dubric can’t untangle the twisted web of clues and lies and find his way to the killer, one of his own pages will be the next to die. . . .

The latter has been formalized less than a hundred years ago. Nonetheless they are parallel journeys of discovery that have forever altered not only what we see, but the very nature of seeing itself. The purpose of this study is to explore how Kabbalah and psychoanalysis converge and diverge, complement and conflict with each other, in order to amplify their impact and enable mankind to gain a greater understanding of reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malice Aforethought is the story of murder-one—the premeditated, cold-blooded killing and obliteration of the name and life-story of the world’s greatest writing genius, William Shakespeare. This shameful tale has finally been unraveled, slowly but inexorably, piece by dramatic piece, during the last century. Whom did Shakespeare offend so grievously that he had to be eradicated forever from the rolls of life? Or was he only embroiled in high-stakes drama and malevolence by ill-fortune? Using well-known sleuthing techniques, the Great Shakespeare Hoax has been solved, the true genius identified and the diabolical perpetrators revealed. Their disgraceful deception, coerced on a gullible world, has been eminently successful for four centuries but no longer. The dastardly deed of filching and squelching Shakespeare’s name, the immediate jewel of his soul, was a wanton act of assassination with malice aforethought, malum in se, malevolent by its very nature. The despicable act was motivated solely for reasons of endless appetite for power and wealth by individuals at the highest level of English government. Remarkably, a cover-up of the truth still continues today in the United States and England.

Book The Tyranny of Opinion

  • Author : Russell Blackford
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2018-10-18

Download or read book The Tyranny of Opinion written by Russell Blackford and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an age of ideology, propaganda, and tribalism. Political conformity is enforced from many sides; the insidious social control that John Stuart Mill called “the tyranny of the prevailing opinion and feeling.” Liberal or left-minded people are often more afraid of each other than of their conservative or right wing opponents. Social media and call-out-culture makes it easier to name, shame, ostracize and harass non-conformists, and destroys careers and lives. How can we oppose this, regaining freedom and our sense of ourselves as individuals? The Tyranny of Opinion identifies the problem, defines its character, and proposes strategies of resistance. Russell Blackford calls for an end to ideological purity policing and for recommitment to the foundational liberal values of individual liberty and spontaneity, free inquiry, diverse opinion, and honest debate.
