Book excerpt: The true state of Gospel Truth, established upon God's Free Election in Christ. The Agreement, and yet Difference between Law and Gospel; so, that the Gospel cannot be styled Law. The Unconditional nature of Gospel Salvation. The procedure of the Day of Judgment; in the way of a Conciliatory Discourse upon Mr. Williams and his Concessions. In this small volume entitled, "the true State of Gospel Faith," we see a fatal death blow handed out, {throughout its pages, } to all Free-Will Religion of the Arminian type, but more especially to that rank form of Conditionalism, by which work mongers of all persuasions have made sad the hearts of the righteous, even whilst building towering shrines to their own self-righteousness, oft under the guise of a 'sovereign grace' profession.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The subject of this treatise," writes Colqohoun, "is in the highest degree, important and interesting, both to saints and to sinners. To know it experimentally, is to “be wise unto salvation;” and to live habitually under the influence of it, is to be at once holy and happy. To have spiritual and distinct views of it, is the way to be kept from verging towards self-righteousness, on the one hand, and licentiousness, on the other; and to be enabled to assert, the absolute freeness of sovereign grace, and at the same time, the sacred interests of true holiness. Without an experimental knowledge, and an unfeigned faith, of the law and the gospel, a man can neither venerate the authority of the one, nor esteem the grace of the other." This classic is organized as follows: Introduction Chapter I. Of the Law of God in General Chapter II. Of the Law of God as Promulgated to the Israelites From Mount Sinai Chapter III. Of the Properties of the Moral Law Chapter IV. The Rules for Understanding Aright the Ten Commandments Chapter V. Of the Gospel of Christ Chapter VI. Of the Uses of the Gospel, and of the Law in Subservience to the Gospel Chapter VII. Of the Difference Between the Law and the Gospel Chapter VIII. Of the Agreement Between the Law and the Gospel Chapter IX. Of the Establishment of the Law by the Gospel Chapter X. Of the Believer’s Privilege of Being Dead to the Law as a Covenant of Works, With a Highly Important Consequence of It Chapter XI. Of the High Obligations Under Which Believers Lie, to Yield Even Perfect Obedience to the Law as a Rule of Life Chapter XII. Of the Nature, Necessity, and Desert of Good Works To the Reader
Download or read book Getting the Gospel Right A Balanced View of Salvation Truth written by Carl Gordon Olson and published by Global Gospel Publishers. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revised and abridged edition of Beyond Calvinism and Arminianism: An Inductive Mediate Theologyof Salvation, in Which theologian/missiologist Olson gives the fruit of a 25-year theological pilgrimage. His inductive focus on Scripture results in a middle view of salvation truth, thus resolving polarized extremes. This edition is much more readable and accessible for most Christians. The exegetical methodology emphasizes context, word studies, and grammar of all relevant passages, with extensive support for eternal security and refutation of deterministic concepts of salvation. In the foreword, Dr. Tim LaHaye refers to the incredible distribution of the academic edition, which sold out in 3 years. A revised academic edition is forthcoming in 2006.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Protestant Reformation sparked an ongoing debate among Christians on the relationship between the Law and the Gospel as part of the discussion of the relationship of the Old and New Testaments. Questions such as these are being asked: Do the Law and the Gospel belong to two separate dispensations? Has the Gospel replaced the Law? What is the relevance of the Old Testament Law to our lives as Christians? Is there continuity between it and what Christ expects of us in the Gospel?" "It is no secret that Christians have differed widely on these questions. This book, using the familiar format of a "Views" book, explores five major approaches to this important biblical topic that have developed in Protestant circles. Each of the five authors presents his particular perspective on the issue and responds to the other four."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Download or read book A Biblicist View of Law and Gospel written by Lester L. Stephenson and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul told the Romans "the Law is holy and the commandment is holy and righteous and good." Yet four times in three epistles he wrote, "We are not under law but under grace." Christians read these seemingly conflicting statements and are easily confused. They wonder if anyone can understand how the law and the Old Testament relates to their faith. Some take the easy way out and all but ignore the Old Testament calling it legalism. They prefer to concentrate on and enjoy the magnificent grace of God that comes with salvation. This limits their understanding of the Scriptures and indeed, restricts spiritual growth. Confusion further abounds because just about every denomination has a different interpretation of the law and the relationship between the testaments. Lester Stephenson proposes a different approach rooted in Jesus' words in Matthew 5:17-18, "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished." Those two verses call for Christians to look anew at the law and the rest of the Old Testament. Not one part of the law or what the prophets wrote will pass away until Jesus has completely fulfilled it. Stephenson stresses that Christians must recognize the importance of the Bible that Jesus and the apostles used. Each time Jesus and the apostles used the phrase, "it is written" they were using an Old Testament passage to illustrate a New Testament principle. In A Biblicist View of Law and Gospel, Stephenson advocates a biblicist view based on careful Bible study to explain how Christians are to view the law and the way the testaments fit together as an inspired whole. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C.F.W. Walther's "The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel" is the Missouri Synod theologian's greatest theological work. This book consists of a series of thirty-nine lectures that Dr. Walther gave his seminary students at the end of his life on one of the foundational elements of Lutheran thought. In twenty-five theses, Walther expounds upon the distinction between the Law as God's demands upon his creatures, and the Gospel of God's free grace in Christ. Each thesis is defended by extensive Scriptural exegesis.
