The Second Edition features two brand new chapters, covering monopulse countermeasures and counter-countermeasures and monopulse for airborne radar and homing seekers. This essential volume categorizes and describes the various forms of monopulse radar, and analyzes their capabilities and limitations. The book also devotes considerable space to monopulse circuits and hardware components, explaining their functions and performance. This practical resource features numerous photographs and illustrations drawn from actual radar systems and components. This book serves as a valuable reference for both experienced radar engineers and those new to the field.

Book excerpt: There are different types of radars, such as search radars, tracking radars, etc. Each of these radars has an explicit application. The main task of search radars is to detect targets at long distances and track radars main task is to follow and track the target. The main components of the radar -range search radars and precision tracking radars and tracking of important issues. The monopulse radar system is mainly used for target angle measurement and tracking. The information on the target angular position is determined by comparison of signals received in two or more simultaneous beams. In recent years, combining the monopulse technology and the wideband imaging technology has become a general trend. The wideband monopulse radars can synthesize one-dimensional high-resolution range profiles and two dimensional monopulse angle measurements to obtain three dimensional imaging of the target. Monopulse radars are widely used in target tracking systems because of their superior angular accuracy and powerful antijamming performance. The main advantage of a monopulse system in comparison to standard angle measurement methods is that it is not affected by amplitude fluctuations of the target echo because the angle information is acquired by comparing signals received by several simultaneous beams and produced by a single echo pulse. If the echo amplitude changes, it changes in the same way in all receiver channels. Monopulse Radar Theory offers engineers cutting-edge treatment of monopulse radar principles, techniques, and applications. The chapters are contributed by renowned authors and researchers dealing with the field. Including research reviews and real world examples and cases, this practical information guide describes the various forms of monopulse radar, and analyzes their capabilities and limitations. The book also intended to considerable space to monopulse circuits and hardware elements, clearing their functions and performance. This book will be a guiding tool for students, academic researchers, as well as for both experienced radar engineers and those who wish to expand their knowledge in this subject.

Book Effect of Nonlinear Architectures on Monopulse Radar Angle Tracking Accuracy

Download or read book Effect of Nonlinear Architectures on Monopulse Radar Angle Tracking Accuracy written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many monopulse angle tracking radar systems are made up using nonlinear components, such as limiters and logarithmic amplifiers. This report describes several areas of work that all relate to monopulse angle tracking radars having at least one limiter in the signal processor. In one area the detailed angle tracking accuracy was determined for a sum-and-difference amplitude monopulse system having a sum channel limiter prior to the angle error detector. The analysis utilized a general accuracy expression valid for an arbitrary angle tracking system; the expression was developed as a second area of effort. A third area of work centered on evaluating coefficients that enter into the accuracy results derived in the first-described area. A fourth work area involved computation of the accuracy of a Rhodes Class III monopulse (with two limiters); this work was incomplete at the project end and remains for future work. (Author).

Book Monopulse Measurement with Active Electronically Scanned Arrays AESAs

Download or read book Monopulse Measurement with Active Electronically Scanned Arrays AESAs written by Roger A. Dana and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes monopulse implemented with Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESAs). Both phase- and amplitude-comparison monopulse are addressed. Limitations imposed by AESAs and non-ideal performance due to quantization, vector modulator noise, and element failures are discussed. The author addresses monopulse using modern low-cost AESAs where the hardware is often non-ideal and where one must carefully balance cost and complexity. The relationship between AESA antenna gain and monopulse measurement is shown and is used to construct an accurate “first-principles” simulation of the monopulse measurement process including both Additive White Gaussian Noise and non-ideal hardware effects. For those unfamiliar with monopulse, this book discusses both the theory and implementation of monopulse for application in modern AESA antennas. For those familiar with the ideal performance of monopulse, the book shows the sensitivity of monopulse accuracy to non-ideal hardware implementations, particularly in AESAs. For those familiar with both, the book discusses Monte-Carlo techniques for simulating the measurement process to obtain realistic, non-ideal monopulse performance vs signal-to-noise ratio. And for those working in radar, the book explains the relationship between one-way monopulse and the monostatic radar case with two-way propagation utilizing the same antenna for both transmit and receive. Shows the relationship between monopulse theory and implementation in modern AESAs; Illustrates the relationship between AESA antenna gain and monopulse accuracy; Discusses the limitations of AESA hardware implementation on simultaneous sidelobe control and monopulse measurement.

Book Comparative Efficiency of Monopulse Radar Direction finding Systems

Download or read book Comparative Efficiency of Monopulse Radar Direction finding Systems written by E. F. Sviridov and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with the estimation of the efficiency of monopulse radar direction-finding systems. Circuits of monopulse systems are studied from the standpoint of the unified theory, signal processing rules are formulated, functional diagrams drawn in accordance with the processing rules are synthesized, and specifications for the basic elements of the functional diagrams at various signal shapes are considered. An analysis of the maximum accuracy of monopulse direction finding is carried out for a determinate signal and for a signal with random parameters at an arbitrary target location in the coverage area, and the functional diagrams of optimal resolvers at phase and amplitude direction finding are determined along with the principles of distribution of optimal estimation of angular position.

Book Analysis of the Probability Density Function of the Monopulse Ratio Radar Signal

Download or read book Analysis of the Probability Density Function of the Monopulse Ratio Radar Signal written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monopulse radars are often used by the U.S. Navy Department to track airborne targets such as missiles attacking ships. In order to effectively make use of the target position data provided by the radar, an estimate of the radar output accuracy must be known. This report describes portions of research performed at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) to develop statistical models of monopulse ratio behavior to improve accuracy analysis of the monopulse radar. The products of this work include a formula for the distribution of the real valued part of the radar signal. Also developed were two tools to compare this distribution with a normal distribution. With these formulas, we showed that, given certain assumptions, this distribution can be approximated by a normal distribution. Finally, this work showed the validity of certain pre-existing formulas developed at NSWCDD. These results are useful in developing algorithms for assessing the accuracy of target location estimates by monopulse radars.
