Book The Tale of Quarles the Prince Who Fails

Download or read book The Tale of Quarles the Prince Who Fails written by Veena RAO and published by . This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of its kind being published - this is a fascinating play in four Acts that revolves around the sad Diana Charles (Fiona and Quarles) marriage. It is an unusual and completely original presentation, a satire on the British royal family, written brilliantly in Shakespearean style. The curse of Wally Sampson (Wallace Simpson) who never forgave the royal family for denying her due position as queen, because she was a divorcee, haunts the play from beginning to end. A lot of "Macbeth" and "Hamlet" is cleverly adapted and interposed, which gives the pathos of the tragic situations a humorous and even comic touch. The play has four Acts. Act 1 - the Christening of QuarlesThrough Wally's spell, adapted from the opening scene of "Macbeth", the infant is christened Quarles on orders of the queen, even though she's warned that this name in British history is linked only to beheading and exile. Wally curses that no queen shall ever kneel at Saint Paul's again, and divorce shall be the family's curse, until her potion's spent. Act 2 - the Wedding of Quarles Wally's sinister presence is felt right through the ceremony, confronting and taunting the queen mother, brought out quite hilariously. The failed romance of Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend (Princess Irena and Pierre Tennyson), because he was a divorcee, is knitted tenderly and poignantly in this Act. Act 3 - the Marriage of QuarlesThe bad start of the marriage, the conflicts and the overpowering presence of Cornelia, the third party in the marriage, the birth of Fiona's children, the gradual breakdown of the marriage, are put together in verse. Act 4 - the Liberation of QuarlesThe triangle of Quarles, Fiona and Cornelia, and a divorce between Quarles and Fiona causes a crisis in the royal family and national politics. The final resolution leads to the most unexpected ending for Fiona, Cornelia, Quarles and the Queen. Wally Sampson has the last laugh. You've got to read it to enjoy it. Get the play now, and see how it ends. It is sad, funny, satirical and original.

Book The Life of Mark Twain

Download or read book The Life of Mark Twain written by Gary Scharnhorst and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins the first multi-volume biography of Samuel Clemens to appear in over a century. In the succeeding years, Clemens biographers have either tailored their narratives to fit the parameters of a single volume or focused on a particular period or aspect of Clemens’s life, because the whole of that epic life cannot be compressed into a single volume. In The Life of Mark Twain, Gary Scharnhorst has chosen to write a complete biography plotted from beginning to end, from a single point of view, on an expansive canvas. With dozens of Mark Twain biographies available, what is left unsaid? On average, a hundred Clemens letters and a couple of Clemens interviews surface every year. Scharnhorst has located documents relevant to Clemens’s life in Missouri, along the Mississippi River, and in the West, including some which have been presumed lost. Over three volumes, Scharnhorst elucidates the life of arguably the greatest American writer and reveals the alchemy of his gifted imagination.
