Book Challenges in Sun Protection

Download or read book Challenges in Sun Protection written by Christian Surber and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 20th century, tanned skin was associated with good health. However, people began to protect themselves against potential overexposure to avoid sunburns. Around 1945, the first sunscreen products became available. In the years to follow, a vast number of different sunscreen filters and frameworks regulating filter substances and preparations, and methods characterizing sunscreen products were developed. The perception regarding the tasks of sunscreen products changed several times - initially it was promoted as a lifestyle product, then as a skin cancer preventive means, and more recently also for anti-aging. Different purposes and the widespread use of these products have led to myriad studies and a wealth of information. In this volume, the editors present a current collection of information analyzing and discussing issues related to sunscreen products and their use. These include challenges regarding the ideal sunscreen product including filter selection and formulation issues, measurement methods, performance characterization, safety, and regulatory issues. Further papers address topics related to the use of sunscreen products in everyday life, in vulnerable cohorts and outdoor workers. Controversial topics such as environmental effects of sunscreen products and the risks and benefits of UV radiation in the context of skin cancer, vitamin D and cardiovascular and metabolic health are also covered.

Book With the Sun on Our Right

Download or read book With the Sun on Our Right written by Tim Moss and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tim and Laura Moss quit their jobs to cycle 13,000 miles around the world. Riding across deserts, over mountains and through jungles, they braved climatic extremes from sub-zero blizzards to the sweltering tropics. But this is not a book about cycling. It is a book about the world and its people. On their travels, Tim and Laura met a fascinating array of people and were repeatedly overwhelmed by the hospitality they received. From Turkey to Thailand and Oman to Japan, complete strangers invited these two grubby cyclists into their homes at the drop of a hat, offering the pair a unique and privileged insight into the lives of people from all walks of life. Follow Tim and Laura around the world as they meet a gun toting sheriff on the Mexican border, a Taksim Square protester who makes a mean kebab and the Albanians who say yes when they really mean no. Join them as they stay with Buddhist monks, Georgian nuns, Turkish imams and Southern Baptists. And come along for the ride as they see behind the sanctions in Iran, hear about life after Hurricane Rita and experience hospitality even in the wake of violence and despair. In a world filled with negative headlines and countries turning in on themselves, this life affirming story is a timely reminder of the common humanity that links people the world over. (Please note: This is the Amazon Edition of With the Sun on Our Right. It is printed and dispatched by Amazon, and does not include the colour photographs found in the Author's Edition).

Book The Sola Scriptura Challenge

Download or read book The Sola Scriptura Challenge written by Brian E. Barnes and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before it was written there were a wide variety of views about the end of time held across different Jewish movements. Historically there have been four main methods of interpretation in both Judaism and Christianity, of which we see all on display in the New Testament. The controversy around interpretation of prophecy existed in the days of Jesus, led some to reject Christ, was not resolved by the Protestant Reformers, and still divides our churches today. This book looks at how we got here and proposes a way we should all move forward together. Using only the Scriptures, the sola scriptura approach challenges us to understand what the original audience of the letter from John would have understood. By identifying singularities and parallels within the book, built from years of research and verse-by-verse exegetical study, we will see how it is the fulfillment of the hopes and expectations of the Hebrew prophets and the early church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frontiers in Earth Science is an open-access journal that aims to bring together and publish on a single platform the best research dedicated to our planet. In turn, the understanding of these processes provides the theoretical background to better use the available resources and to face the major environmental challenges (including earthquakes, tsunamis, eruptions, floods, landslides, climate changes, sea level rise, extreme meteorological events): this is where interdependent processes meet, requiring a holistic view to better live on and with our planet. Within this volume are included the Grand Challenge papers for the Earth Science field, authored by the Field Chief Editor, and several of the 16 online specialty sections, authored by the respective Chief Editors. These articles identify and describe the crucial challenges for Earth Science at the dawn of the 21st century.
