Book The Student s Life of Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Student s Life of Christ Classic Reprint written by Frank Knight Sanders and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Student's Life of Christ This Life of Jesus the Christ was written from the stand point of the teacher in the Sunday school, with a class desirous of gaining a mastery of the facts from a constructive point of view. It was originally published, chapter by chapter, in various religious weeklies. Notwithstanding the limitations imposed by this method of publication it excited an interest among many readers which seemed to justify its issue in book form for permanent use. The chapters follow closely the Bible Study Union lessons on the Life of Christ, to which they were designed to be supplemental. So representative of the best scholarship is the outline of these lessons that no practical difficulty arose to prevent its being thus followed. The formal requirement of a quarterly review lesson proved advantageous rather than otherwise. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Students Life of Jesus The aim of this volume is different from that of the great lives of Christ which enrich and adorn the Christian literature of our century. For, first, it does not seek to discuss the teaching of Jesus in detail. This is regarded as a distinct theme, and is considered only in so far as seemed necessary to a clear account of the character and life of Jesus. The reader is asked to bear this fact in mind, and not to hold the book responsible for a full explanation of all the words of Jesus. Download or read book The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by William Boothby Selbie and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ This little book makes no claim to an exhaustive treatment of its great subject, nor even to be an original contribution to it. It is intended as an outline or introduction for those who are beginning the study, and who have no special critical or theological knowledge. The aim throughout has been to summarise the results of modern investigation from the constructive standpoint, and to show that when criticism has had its perfect work enough remains for faith and devotion. The subject is one which raises many problems of which no final solution is possible in the present state of our knowledge. The writer would acknowledge his obligations to many modern writers on the period, to some of whom reference is made in these pages, and among them especially to his old teacher, Dr. Sanday of Oxford, to whom all students of the New Testament owe an incalculable debt. This book was released on 2019-01-16 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to the Life of Christ A few years ago I prepared a Guide to the Lives of Christ for English Readers. Its purpose was to give a general view of the course of modern thought concern ing the life of Christ, and especially a brief description of each of the more important Lives, written in Eng lish or accessible in translation. The need of some such guide for the inexperienced student is evident, when one realizes how many Lives of Christ, written from various stand-points and differing greatly in scholarship, are presented for his choice. This work is now out of print; so I have added it, somewhat condensed and brought down to date, as an Appendix to the present volume. If this book shall furnish to my students an intro duction to the broad and fascinating fields of Gospel criticism, I shall be satisfied. If it shall be of service to others who may wish to know what these fields contain, I shall be greatly pleased. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Short Life of Christ: For Old and Young Tms is a new book, not an abridgment, and is written for the multitudes, older or younger, who, while shrinking from a Life of Christ in two volumes, would be very glad to read and master the amazing story, if presented vividly, and with adequate knowledge, in a moderate compass.' I have spared no pains to make the following pages supply, at least in a measure, this much felt want. The fullest Life of Our Lord must always remain the best for the student, clerical or lay; but while these have their wishes already supplied, others, both older and younger, have hitherto been without a similar presentation of the Gospel narrative, within smaller limits, more suited to their taste or leisure. Book The Life of Christ Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life of Christ Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Mgr; E. Le Camus and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Christ, Vol. 1 This is the sixth edition of this book. It has undergone some changes in form and has received some important additions. To ask the author the reason for thus retouching a work which the public has readily received with favour, would be like asking the artist, who always sees his ideal better than he can realise it, why, when every one is praising his work, he feels himself irresistibly moved to begin again, striving each day to throw more light on certain details, to make others more precise, to harmonise better all the outlines, until he has put into his picture or his statue all that he feels, all that he sees, all that he can. The author, indeed, is aware that in putting pen to paper to write a life of Our Lord, one must from the first give up all thought of attaining even the most relative perfection. For how can one flatter himself that he has enclosed in a frame worthy of it, as if it were simply that of some great man, the astounding physiognomy of the Master, which, suddenly, when we think to grasp it and set it firmly on our earthly horizon, assumes superhuman proportions, and, in the midst of infinite light, mounts up toward heaven, where it is lost in God? Book The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young Vol 3 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young Vol 3 Classic Reprint written by Richard Newton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young, Vol. 3 We have an account of this lesson in St. John 13: 4 - 15. It is taught us in these words He riseth from supper, and laid aside his gar ments; and took a towel and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash his disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then occurs the incident about the objection which Peter made to letting Jesus wash his feet, and the way in which that objection was overcome. And then the story goes on thus So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, 'know ye what I have done unto you? Ye call me Master, and Lord; and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye ought also to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do, as I have done to you. This was a very surprising scene. How astonished the angels must have been when they looked upon it! They had known Jesus in heaven, before he took upon him our nature, and came into this fallen world. They had seen him in the glory which he had with the Father, before the world was. They had worshipped him in the midst of all that glory. And then, when they saw him, girded with a towel, and washing the feet of poor sinful men, whom he came from heaven to save, how surprising it must have seemed to them! And When Jesus told his disciples, that his object in doing this was to set them an example, that they should do as he had done to them, he did not mean that they should literally make a practice of washing each other's feet; but that they should show the same humility to others that he had shown to them, by being willing to do anything, however humble it might be, in order to promote their comfort and happiness. It is not the act itself, here spoken of, that Jesus teaches us to do; but the spirit of humility, in which the act was performed, that he teaches us to cultivate. We might go through the form of washing the feet of other persons, and yet feel proud and haughty all the time we were doing it. Then we should not be following the example of Jesus at all. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Christ, Vol. 3 When, in spite of this, Jesus still required of them' to believe firmly in His Messianic destiny, they must have thought that surely now He would express Himself as to His calling in some unmistakeable way. That this was so undoubtedly follows from what is indicated as to the kind of sign which they demanded. If Jesus desired to be the second Deliverer of Israel, they required Him to show His legitimation in the same way as the first had done. Moses. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life in Christ The sermons contained in this volume have been preached upon many and varied occasions. Many of them have been put into manuscript form from brief or copious notes made when the sermons were first preached. This will explain in part the varying length of the sermons. A few of them are reproduced from the manuscript as prepared in the first instance. If the reader should find an occasional repetition of a thought or illustration it will be due to the fact that the sermons were preached upon many occasions and at various places. There are some evidences of an increasing demand for sermons in printed form. These are sent forth as a small contribution to the sermonic literature of the day, with the prayer that God will use them for the advancement of truth and righteousness among men.
