Book The Spirit of Tea Making

Download or read book The Spirit of Tea Making written by Margaret Ledoux and published by Publishroom. This book was released on 2016-08-04 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After years of travelling through Asia, Margaret Ledoux shares her experience of tea tasting. Taiwan, home to the finest quality oolong teas. Often known as 'grand cru' these teas are savoured and prized as if they were the best of wines. Margaret travelled extensively throughout Asia and has lived for extended periods in South Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines. It is in Taiwan that she discovered the delicate oolongs and grew to appreciate both their aroma and taste while realizing an accompanying sense of greater well being. An unmissable guide for all tea lovers. EXCERPT In both Britain and France, where I grew up, tea is a classic drink taken black or with milk and sugar or infused with different herbal flavours. An unforgettable four years in Taiwan introduced me to a different approach to tea and tea drinking that I would like to share with you. The tea ceremony of Japan is well known and appreciated for its precision and beauty of setting and movements—a far cry one might think from the more down-to-earth approach of the British cup of tea or the French herbal infusion. Yet the English, too, developed tea drinking as an important practice either to start the day well, or to calm the nerves after an upsetting experience, or to enjoy socialising in a relaxed and happy environment. In France, in my experience, tea is also considered more relaxing than coffee, to be preferred whenever a soothing beverage is more appropriate. REVIEWS “This is a treasure of a book and like... the tea tasting, is infused with grace, clarity, strength and beauty.” - Mary Chua, tea aficionado “I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Spirit of Tea Making. It made me want to board a plane for Taipei just to taste these wonderful teas that the author so obviously loves.” - Reni Singer, Publisher of Tahanan Books “Written with warmth and grace this little guide unites tea lovers across the globe in the simple enjoyment of Taiwan’s finest oolongs. A delightful read for all tea lovers.” - CD Hsu, Bao Cha Tea Boutique, Taipei, Taiwan.

Book excerpt: This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive annotation of more than 10.000 words about the history and basics of Buddhism, written by Thomas William Rhys Davids The Book of Tea by Okakura Kakuzo (1906), is a long essay linking the role of tea (Teaism) to the aesthetic and cultural aspects of Japanese life. Addressed to a western audience, it was originally written in English and is one of the great English Tea classics. Okakura had been taught at a young age to speak English and was proficient at communicating his thoughts to the Western mind. In his book, he discusses such topics as Zen and Taoism, but also the secular aspects of tea and Japanese life. The book emphasizes how Teaism taught the Japanese many things; most importantly, simplicity. Kakuzō argues that this tea-induced simplicity affected art and architecture, and he was a long-time student of the visual arts. He ends the book with a chapter on Tea Masters, and spends some time talking about Sen no Rikyū and his contribution to the Japanese Tea Ceremony. (from wikipedia.com)

Book The Spirit of Tea

Download or read book The Spirit of Tea written by Frank Murphy and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2013-01-14 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Spirit of Tea" is a radical departure from all of the tea books on the market today. It touches upon tea's transcendental nature that no book has yet examined. While a lot is written about tea's healing benefits and curative properties, tea's more spiritual and mystical attributes gets little attention. The author was motivated to write this book because of the profound absence of information in this area. What is it that keeps us coming back to humanity's favorite beverage next to water. Forget about English tea, cucumber sandwiches and petite fours. You won't find them here because controversial aspects of tea's intrinsic qualities are discussed. Myths about tea are debunked while others are reanimated while the reader is also given practical information, including the history and characteristics, special properties and features of the sixclassical catagories of tea: White, Yellow, Green, Oolong, Black (or Red in China), and Puerh teas. All are explained in great detail with information their varieties, their traditions, the nature of each, brewing techniques, along with an fascinating narrative. (1166)

Book excerpt: “Insightful, moving, and at times deeply profound, this book will have you turning each page in anticipation. It’s the introspective reader’s dream–a spiritual journey woven beautifully through a love story. A book that will cause you to think on what it means to love and be loved.” Nancy H. Isaiah set off on a ten day motorcycle adventure in northern, rural Japan. His quest, at the age of twenty, was to photograph the quiet mysterious culture, meet a Japanese woman and find The Tao (the way). He took stunning photographs, fell deeply in love with an extraordinary Japanese woman and found an old man willing to teach him the way, the truth and the narrow gate. Over the next forty years Isaiah’s life tumbles through lessons of pain and redemption, loss and victory in search of a path of unconditional love and faith. Be transformed by a journey into traditional Japan, a mystical land of tea ceremonies, Japanese gardens, rich culture and unexpected spiritual revelations. Slow Brewing Tea is an epic spiritual adventure and a touching love story that will compel you to look deeper at your relationships with your God, your spouse and the path beneath your feet. For four hundred years, the Oda clan kept a secret. In 1593, Oda Nobumasa, the son of infamous Oda Nobunaga, converted to Christianity and to avoid persecution was sent away to the remote mountains of northern Honshu to live as a hermit. For the remainder of his life he studied the mysteries of Jesus and came to a shocking conclusion: Jesus’ teachings are a perfect fit into Japan’s traditions of the Samurai, Wa, the tea ceremony, gardens and nearly every aspect of Japanese culture. Obedient to a dream from God, Oda Nobumasa hid his discoveries in his tea room scrolls, to remain a family secret, until... Join Isaiah on this quest; finish, and you will see life, love and spirituality in a radically new way. “Our western world has been thirsting for a vision that can adequately blend Christianity with the depths of Asian culture and philosophy; this slowly brewed tea will satisfy.” —B.S., Amazon “Best novel I have read in a long time." —J., Amazon “WOW is an understatement... from beginning to the end, this book will move you!!!... the BEST novel I have ever read.” —PLS, Amazon “Isaiah is all of us who look for faith.” —C.N. BookBub “If I could recommend one book this year, it would be this. I couldn’t stop reading. I feel so full of hope after reading this book.” —L., Amazon, India “This is a beautiful story... overall sense is peace, spirituality and inner strength and faith. A very enlightening read whether you are Christian or not.” —C.N., BookBub “It’s hard to describe this novel. This is the new The Shack, but I think more biblically sound.” —G.B., Amazon India “Looking for inspiration? Here it is…read and absorb.” —G. H., Amazon “Moving story of redemption and love filled with romance and adventure. Yes, it moved me to tears.” —A.M., Amazon “A great read! It’s deep. Rich with great teaching that every Christian needs. Highly recommend.” —Z.H., Amazon “Incredible story! The reviews are right. You need to read this book!” —T., Amazon India “This book breaks all the molds! In my humble opinion this book will go down as one of the most epic Christian novels of the century.” —A.S., NetGalley “FIVE STARS ISN’T ENOUGH. The writing is excellent. For a first novel, this author shows talent rarely seen…ingenious weaving of biblical truths. [Regarding] The Shack references... I agree with the connection people are seeing … but I believe Slow Brewing Tea is better written and with more solid biblical content, making the tea room a better place to learn about Jesus than the shack. I cannot overstate how much the world needs this novel right now.” —D.D, NetGalley “Liquid wisdom, this novel is to be sipped and savored.” —B.S., Betareader

Book excerpt: From the authors of Shake: A New Perspective on Cocktails comes Infuse, a recipe book filled with fresh and flavorful oil, spirit, and water infusions. Authors Eric Prum and Josh Williams’ passion for infusing oils, spirits and waters began one summer nearly a decade ago when the two first made peach-infused bourbon. They were awestruck. The seemingly simple process of adding fresh, local peaches to a Mason jar of Kentucky Bourbon, and infusing the mixture for a handful of weeks had somehow resulted in something so much greater than the sum of its parts. In Infuse the authors share not only their favorite infusion recipes, but also how to use them in food and cocktails, like a spicy chili oil added to a grilled pizza bianca or a hot toddy spiked with the peach bourbon that started it all years ago. With more than 50 recipes for infusing oils, spirits and waters, Infuse provides instructions, quick tips and plenty of inspiration for how you can make delicious infusions part of your everyday.
