Download or read book The Celestial Song of Creation written by Annalee Skarin and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-13 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Here is a record of glory, revealing the method of achieving the heights, the way to unfold understanding of the Almighty Truths of God. “If you would awaken your soul to the divine symphony of the Universe, follow the way of ‘overcoming,’ the Way Christ trod. The record of His Path, the eternal, inner truths of power and fulfillment are now open, the sacred, inner knowledge that has lain dormant and in the depths of your being. “Ludwig Van Beethoven, who had become deaf, humbly acknowledged that his Symphony No. 9 came to him directly from God, and that he merely transcribed it. “What is man’s soul? It is his true being, where God has placed a seed of Himself, and this seed contains the perfect answers to one’s outside problems and inner questioning. It is the source of all inspiration and contains the power of all achievement and happiness. The soul is the innermost being of man himself. “To contact the soul, one learns ‘to be still!’ This divine search fulfills man’s conquest of himself as he begins to live God’s laws. As one learns ‘to love God with all his heart, all his soul, all his mind, and all his strength,’ he begins to find the joy and the meaning of existence. The search is one that no man can make for another. It is a quest which each individual must undertake for himself. It is each individual’s own responsibility.”—Annalee Skarin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume completes Keith McMahon’s acclaimed history of imperial wives and royal polygamy in China. Avoiding the stereotype of the emperor’s plural wives as mere victims or playthings, the book considers empresses and concubines as full-fledged participants in palace life, whether as mothers, wives, or go-betweens in the emperor’s relations with others in the palace. Although restrictions on women’s participation in politics increased dramatically after Empress Wu in the Tang, the author follows the strong and active women, of both high and low rank, who continued to appear. They counseled emperors, ghostwrote for them, oversaw succession when they died, and dominated them when they were weak. They influenced the emperor’s relationships with other women and enhanced their aura and that of the royal house with their acts of artistic and religious patronage. Dynastic history ended in China when the prohibition that women should not rule was defied for the final time by Dowager Cixi, the last great monarch before China’s transformation into a republic.

But has increasing copyright protection gone too far in keeping the music from the masses? The authors show how the online music industry will establish the model for digital distribution, cultural access, and consumer privacy. Digital Music Wars explores the far-reaching implications of downloading music in an in-depth and insightful way.

Book excerpt: Millennia ago Starquin visited the Solar System. Because he is huge - some say bigger than the Solar System itself - he could not set foot on Earth personally. yet events here were beginning to interest him, and he wanted to observe more closely. So he sent down extensions of himself, creatures fashioned after Earth's dominant life-form. In one of Earth's languages they became known as Dedos, or Fingers of Starquin. Disguised, they mingled with Mankind. We know this now, here at the end of Earth's time. The information is all held in Earth's great computer, the Rainbow. The Rainbow will endure as long as Earth exists, watching, listening, recording and thinking. I am an extension of the Rainbow, just as the Dedos are extensions of Starquin. My name is Alan-Blue-Cloud. It is possible you cannot see me but are aware of me only as a voice speaking to you from a desolate hillside, telling you tales from the Song of Earth. I can see you, the motley remains of the human race, however. You sit there with our clubs and you chew your roots, entranced and half-disbelieving as I sing the Song - and in our faces are signs of the work of your great geneticist, Mordecai N. Whirst. Catlike eyes here, broad muzzles there, all the genes of Earth's life, expertly blended, each having its purpose. Strong people, adapted people, people who survived. The story I will tell is about people who were not so strong. It is perhaps the most famous in the whole Song of Earth, and it tells of three simple human beings involved in a quest who unwittingly became involved in much greater events concerning the almighty Starquin himself. It is a story of heroism and love, and it ends in triumph - and it will remind the humans among you of the greatness that was once yours.

Book Celestial Empire

  • Publisher : Wesleyan University Press
  • Release : 2017-02-07
  • ISBN : 0819576697
  • Pages : 273 pages

Download or read book Celestial Empire written by Nathaniel Isaacson and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How colonialism profoundly influenced the emergence of Chinese science fiction Challenging assumptions about science fiction's Western origins, Nathaniel Isaacson traces the development of the genre in China, from the late Qing Dynasty through the New Culture Movement. Through careful examination of a wide range of visual and print media—including historical accounts of the institutionalization of science, pictorial representations of technological innovations, and a number of novels and short stories—Isaacson makes a case for understanding Chinese science fiction as a product of colonial modernity. By situating the genre's emergence in the transnational traffic of ideas and material culture engendered by the presence of colonial powers in China's economic and political centers, Celestial Empires explores the relationship between science fiction and Orientalist discourse. In doing so it offers an innovative approach to the study of both vernacular writing in twentieth-century China and science fiction in a global context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bhagavad Gita, the greatest devotional book of Hinduism, has long been recognized as one of the world’s spiritual classics and a guide to all on the path of Truth. It is sometimes known as the Song of the Lord or the Gospel of the Lord Shri Krishna. According to Western scholarship, it was composed later than the Vedas and the Upanishads – probably between the fifth and second centuries before Christ. It is a fragment, part of the sixth book of the epic poem The Mahabaratha. The Mahabaratha tells of the Pandavas, Prince Arjuna and his four brothers, growing up in north India at the court of their uncle, the blind King Dhritarashtra, after the death of their father, the previous ruler. There is always great rivalry between the Pandavas or sons of Pandu and the Kauravas, the one hundred sons of Dhritarashtra. Eventually the old king gives his nephews some land of their own but his eldest son, Duryodhana, defeats Yudhisthira, the eldest Pandava, by cheating at dice, and forces him and his brothers to surrender their land and go into exile for thirteen years. On their return, the old king is unable to persuade his son Duryodhana to restore their heritage and, in spite of efforts at reconciliation by Sanjaya, Dhritarashtra’s charioteer; by Bheeshma, his wise counsellor; and even by the Lord Krishna himself, war cannot be averted. The rival hosts face each other on the field of Kurukshetra. It is at this point that The Bhagavad Gita begins. When Prince Arjuna surveys the battlefield, he is overwhelmed with sorrow at the futility of war. The teachings of The Bhagavad Gita are spoken by the divine Lord Krishna, who is acting as the prince’s charioteer. They are overheard by Sanjaya and reported back to King Dhritarashtra. When Krishna has finished speaking to Arjuna, the two armies engage. The battle lasts eighteen days and by the end of it nearly all of the warriors on both sides are dead save Krishna and the five sons of Pandu.
