The motions of the affected joint were limited and painful, especially so when attempting to raise the arm upwards, he being entirely unable to put the hand a; the head. The patient being a large muscular man, it was very difficult to make out the precise location of the head of the humerus. By careful manipulation, which gave him but little or no pain, we were unable to say that the bone had left its natural position, although I thought the posterior portion of the shoulder felt rather more full and prom incut than the one on the opposite side, but not sufficiently so to diagnosticate a back ward or sub-spinous dislocation.
