Specifically, it appraises the effect of social media tools via the mass media on the HIV and AIDS in Malaysia. The secondary goal is assessing the perceived advantages and limitations of utilizing social networking for HIV and AIDS communication. To think about how to use social networking for health-related communication, and more particularly HIV/AIDS communication, advertising practitioners have to note which factors contribute to which elements and effective communication hinder communication. The first cases of HIV in Malaysia were reported in 1986, and there was a sharp increase in 10 cases by 1990. After scientists introduced three combinations of Antiretroviral (ART) treatments in 1995, there was a decrease in the HIV cases. In 2018, the rate of new HIV cases in Malaysia was 10 cases per 100,000 population. Of these cases, a total of 47 patients involved individuals under the age of 18. No treatment can eliminate the virus as a whole, but HIV can be prevented or given early treatment before the onset of AIDS. So, early detection and safety precaution to avoid being infected by the disease is essential. Social media has essentially changed how people communicate and share information, and health communication has indeed been immune to this information revolution. With the advent of Facebook, people, without having to meet, can interact with each other. Nowadays, many new media facilities such as the internet, smartphones, and others have given society a new dimension in understanding HIV / AIDS and its actions. There is very little research on public awareness of HIV / AIDS and the role played by social media in dealing with this disease.

People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) require extensive support in order to remain in care, and reduce their viral suppression, and other disease complications. Without support, the likelihood that PLHA will refrain from or drop out of treatment options is gravely heightened, which consequently poses a significant threat for efforts to eliminate HIV as a public health issue. Using a mixed-method approach to Social Network Analysis, this study examines the principal role that social support plays in a person's likelihood to adhere to care and consequently, attain viral suppression. Specifically, it looks at the roles of the family, friends, partners/spouses, and healthcare providers. The study also explores how social relations serve as mediators to stigma and discrimination, especially for disproportionate groups. Closely linked to social support availability is the perceived level of significance of the type of support that is available to the subjects. The study therefore goes further to explore the subjects' perception of the support they receive (emotional, informational, and instrumental) and their satisfaction with it. This is imperative in that it sheds light on the role that the subjects' social relations plays in their retention in care. This research again takes an interdisciplinary approach by exploring the contribution of both communication and health communication strategies to effect behavioral change. It contributes to research on HIV/AIDS health equity, and infectious disease management. It also contributes to efforts to identify strategies to control the spread of HIV by proposing efficient ways to optimize social support through the stages of the Care Continuum and consequently, facilitate an increase in the number of people who attain viral suppression.

It is currently incurable but can be prevented by using various appropriate interventions. In recent years, social networking such as Facebook, Twitter and phone text messaging has emerged as a vital tool in communication. It has brought about an ever-increasing convenience to people finding casual sexual liaisons and taking part in activities that might increase the risk of HIV infection. However, such digital technology could also be used against HIV in its prevention. With its advantages in cost-effectiveness and efficiency, this mode of intervention could prove to be vital in reducing prevalence in the future. Methods: The relevant RCTs were extracted from online databases using relevant keywords dated fromJanuary2005 toJuly2015. The effectiveness of different social networking intervention methods were identified and evaluated. The quality of these studies was accessed using the Jadad Quality Scale. Result: Social media networking possesses great potential in delivering health intervention material but the evidence reviewed thus far suggests that effectiveness is not strong. At present, these emerging researching methods are still in an early stage and there are some challenges in implementing such intervention on a larger scale. Moreover, there is no agreed guideline of using social networking as an intervention in HIV prevention yet. In sum, these studies only assessed the indirect outcomes such as cognitive, psychological and behavioral changes and they failed to provide more direct outcomes such as the participants' HIV statuses at the end of the study, which would be needed to provide a more direct assessment of the health benefits for the effectiveness of their interventions. Overall, the strength of the evidence of effectiveness was moderate. Conclusion: There is great potential in the application of social networking as an intervention tool for HIV prevention. Although only few RCTs in this review had standardized measurements of outcomes, most of them demonstrated the effectiveness of social networking intervention in terms of cognitive, psychological and behavioral changes in the high-risk groups as compared to the controls. Apart from needing to improve the quality of research in the future by using improved methods of outcome measurement, researches should also consider carrying out their investigation in regions of high HIV prevalence. In sum, based on the quality of evidence, it could be concluded that the strength of using social networking as interventions for HIV prevention was moderate.
