Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educators are natural pioneers; they have always been the transmitters and transformers of history. Courageous educators have changed the very course of our culture by taking risks and challenging prevailing systems. Somewhere along the way, however, that sense of audacity has diminished. Overuse of accountability agents ranging from uniformity, bell curves, statistics and threats of litigation threaten to compress our educational systems into a linear track devoid of color, creativity and diversity. Diverse personalities, fresh ideas and new strategies are required to sidestep the narrow, one-size-fits-all path of today's school systems. As the world becomes more diverse, teachers need to lead the way in embracing their own distinct approaches. The Rogue Educator concept is best explained by taking a look at specific teacher qualities and possible paradigm shifts for each one. The Rogue Educator book is a collection of easy-to-read, familiar, and memorable characters that will resonate with all instructional leaders and professionals. Teachers and other educators will recognize a bit of themselves in the profiles and will learn new ways to capitalize on their own personalities by making the classroom—and the school--a more positive and supportive environment for all.

Book Dear Parents

Download or read book Dear Parents written by Gabbie Stroud and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by Gabbie Stroud, author of the national bestseller Teacher, Dear Parents is a passionate call to arms for all parents to understand their role as their children's lifelong teachers, showing how they can help their kids' educators and schools achieve the best outcomes for the next generation. So many Australian parents are buying the government line about standardised testing of students through programs like NAPLAN and My School, which make them think they are getting results because of rankings and comparisons. But they don't seem to realise that these new forms of assessment are actually negatively affecting our kids' ability to gain the crucial life skills and appreciation for learning that have been, and should be, the main aim of teaching. In Dear Parents, a funny, heartfelt and impassioned series of letters to the mothers, fathers and caregivers of Australia, Gabbie Stroud makes a plea to all parents to understand the fundamental changes to the way their children are being taught, and the results of this process on the development of future generations. She wants parents to recognise their responsibility as their children's primary educators and to appreciate the lifelong benefits that committed and dedicated school teachers can bring to their kids. 'A moving and inspiring journey through teaching and learning and all they can be. If you have a young person in your life, or know somebody who does, please read this book.' - Morris Gleitzman, Australian Children's Laureate 'Gabbie Stroud's Dear Parents is a crucial bridge between two important pillars in education - parents and teachers - but most importantly, it holds at its passionate heart the best interests of children. If you want to understand the way your children are being educated in these challenging times, and whether the system is fit for purpose, you must read this funny, informative, and eye-opening book.' - Lucy Clark, author of the critically acclaimed Beautiful Failures

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It began quietly enough one morning in February 1880, with a mutton-chopped Acme Safe Company salesman knocking on the door of Reverend Morgan Dix, the starchiest clergyman in Manhattan's most respectable church. The salesman was surely misdirected, Reverend Dix explained--he had no need for a safe, and he had not made an appointment. But soon after, used clothes dealers arrived, followed by heavy machinery salesmen, and soon the street filled riotously with wave after wave of solicitor-tormentors--hundreds of funeral directors, horse traders, wigmakers, fellow clergymen, doctors--all insisting they'd been summoned by the bewildered Reverend Dix. And for weeks, it continued in this manner. Reporters from every newspaper in New York camped out to watch the fun, and as the story gained national attention, police and postal officers raced to capture the gleeful prankster-cum-performance artist who was making a mockery of the esteemed Trinity Church. A fascinating tale of detection and revenge, The Rector and the Rogue uncovers for the first time the trail of celebrated Victorian trickster "Gentleman Joe"--the mysterious con-man whose innumerable identities, wild fabrications, baffling motives, and international trail of chaos would lead to one of the most bizarre criminal cases of the 19th century.

Book Education in a Multicultural Cyprus

Download or read book Education in a Multicultural Cyprus written by Nicos Anastasiou and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Latins, and Armenians have been the primary historical communities that make up the multicultural landscape of Cyprus. However, the continuing conflict between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots has geographically, socially and psychologically segregated these communities, while the influx of economic migrants, especially after Cyprus’s accession to the EU in 2004, has, in turn, contributed to Cyprus’s challenges, arising from multiculturalism, in an altogether different perspective. How has education, over time, addressed and re-examined all these issues introduced by Cyprus’ complex evolving multiculturalism and ethnic diversity? How can education better attend to current problems of coexistence in Cyprus, and what kind of role can it play in a federal re-united country? This collection of essays introduces an innovative and critical examination of these questions in order to provide relevant answers. More specifically, it examines how formal, non-formal and informal education contributed to the creation and perpetuation of the Cyprus conflict, as well as to prejudices, inter-ethnic stereotypes, and misperceptions. The book also discusses how education could contribute to conflict transformation, empathy and peaceful coexistence amongst the different Cypriot communities, and how this has been possible in other multi-ethnic societies. The volume will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers interested in peace education, multiculturalism and conflict transformation.
