Her brother, Asa is dead -- killed by the King's army, so when she stumbles across a wounded British soldier, her sense of right and wrong is challenged. Should she help a soldier of the enemy who took her brother's life, or let him die, cold and alone? The war has also broken British soldier Daniel Lowe's spirit. A severely wounded prisoner of war, he escaped his rebel captors while on a death march to Boston. As the pain in his injured leg worsens, he wonders if the young woman looking down at him is an angel or the enemy.Need and compassion bring these two young lives together, but will the bitterness of war keep them apart? Or can they find their way to love and forgiveness on the Road to Deer Run?

Book excerpt: Growing up on a farm, you see a lot of things that blow your mind as a child. It gives you a chance to experience things that many people can never imagine. As an adventurous child, I did a lot of "stupid" things. Some ended up funny, some did not. But this didn't stop in my childhood. We spent many years on hog farms and had some very unusual situations Throughout the rest of my life, my family and I would own and enjoy around 40 different kinds of animals. This would include animals such as tigers, lions, bears, buffalo, a wallaby, reindeer, zeedonk, bobcats, and many many others. We owned and operated a traveling petting zoo for many years. We would bring over 30 different kinds of animals into towns and let people pet and play with them. This is where a lot of the stories came from. So, this book is about all the weird and unusual things that happened to me and my family throughout the years. It starts as a kid on a family farm, then many years on hog farms, and ends with the many exotic animal stories. You just can't beat life on the farm!

Book North Country

    Book Details:
  • Author : Howard Frank Mosher
  • Publisher : HMH
  • Release : 2014-07-29
  • ISBN : 0544391241
  • Pages : 275 pages

Download or read book North Country written by Howard Frank Mosher and published by HMH. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A richly observant memoir of a coast-to-coast journey along the US-Canada border . . . An armchair traveler’s delight” (Kirkus Reviews). “Part travelogue, part memoir, part meditation, part exploration,” North Country is an account of a trip along the northern border of the United States in search of the country’s last unspoiled frontiers (The Boston Sunday Globe). In this vast, sparsely settled territory, Howard Frank Mosher found both a harsh and beautiful landscape and some of the continent’s most independent men and women. Here, he brings this remote area to vivid life in a book “bright with anecdote and history and lore and most importantly with affection for his human subjects” (Richard Ford, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Independence Day). “A classic road book. You could, with confidence, place this book on the shelf next to such American classics as John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley and Jonathan Raban’s Old Glory.” —Detroit Free Press “What Mosher’s northern journey is really about is our society’s loss of Eden, the garden we were promised when we came here. The garden we’ve turned into pulp fiction and rocket ranges. The very fact that this brave book can stir up so many thoughts about the predicaments of civilization is surely an indication that it is well worth reading.” —Ottawa Citizen
