Book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement written by Sandra L. Christenson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two decades, the concept of student engagement has grown from simple attention in class to a construct comprised of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components that embody and further develop motivation for learning. Similarly, the goals of student engagement have evolved from dropout prevention to improved outcomes for lifelong learning. This robust expansion has led to numerous lines of research across disciplines and are brought together clearly and comprehensively in the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement. The Handbook guides readers through the field’s rich history, sorts out its component constructs, and identifies knowledge gaps to be filled by future research. Grounding data in real-world learning situations, contributors analyze indicators and facilitators of student engagement, link engagement to motivation, and gauge the impact of family, peers, and teachers on engagement in elementary and secondary grades. Findings on the effectiveness of classroom interventions are discussed in detail. And because assessing engagement is still a relatively new endeavor, chapters on measurement methods and issues round out this important resource. Topical areas addressed in the Handbook include: Engagement across developmental stages. Self-efficacy in the engaged learner. Parental and social influences on engagement and achievement motivation. The engaging nature of teaching for competency development. The relationship between engagement and high-risk behavior in adolescents. Comparing methods for measuring student engagement. An essential guide to the expanding knowledge base, the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement serves as a valuable resource for researchers, scientist-practitioners, and graduate students in such varied fields as clinical child and school psychology, educational psychology, public health, teaching and teacher education, social work, and educational policy.

Download or read book Successful Teacher Personality and Other Correlates written by Elena Mirela Samfira and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-08 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of what makes a good teacher has been asked by practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. Teachers are important drivers of student success in the immediate term, such as academic success. Nowadays, the education process is influenced by various factors which can all have a strong effect on the quality of teaching and learning. Having the intention to create high-quality teaching and learning, it is very important to clearly determine what those factors are, and what kind of effect they have on the education process. Different teacher characteristics and competencies have been distinguished in the literature as being relevant predictors of their instructional quality. Even though educational psychology has emphasized the significance of the personality role in the education process, the empirical evidence on the relationship between teacher characteristics and instructional quality is not yet conclusive. Certainly, there is much more to find out.

Book Meeting Expectations in Management Education

Download or read book Meeting Expectations in Management Education written by Elizabeth Christopher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-25 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a variety of international, cross-cultural case studies of management education programmes and discusses the results in light of the present higher social expectations on managerial behaviour. It presents both traditional and unusual approaches to management education, examining concept mapping, transformational learning theory, the practice-theory gap, cultural indoctrination and business students’ increased concern with socio-ecological sustainability. It moves from restating the purpose of university business schools to discussing the construction of conducive learning environments on introductory courses and of communities of learning through ‘harmonised teaching’. In addressing the social and ethical problems that will soon confront all managers, Meeting Expectations is a valuable resource for teachers, students and practitioners.

Book The Roles of Social Media in Education Affective Behavioral and Cognitive Dimensions

Download or read book The Roles of Social Media in Education Affective Behavioral and Cognitive Dimensions written by Hung Phu Bui and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: technologies, in education. A large body of research has attempted to measure the extent to which social media change human communication. In education, researchers and educators have employed social media to increase students’ engagement inside and outside the classroom. They have been exploring the effects of the use of social media on the learning outcome, and learners’ beliefs and experiences. However, some of their endeavors are inconclusive. As the effects of social media in education are context-sensitive, research results reflecting different contexts around the world will contribute to the literature on social media and education. Student engagement in learning, a growing interest in educational research, is widely believed to contribute to the success of learning. The contemporary literature shows that students can engage in learning affectively, behaviorally, and cognitively. Recent studies are also interested in using technology to mediate students’ social and metacognitive engagement in learning. As student engagement is a multidimensional area, interdisciplinary studies have recently expanded their literature. The use of social media to increase student engagement in learning remains underexplored.
