We can't promise perfection, but we're sure gonna try! Our goal is to bring you high quality Christian publications at rock bottom prices.Description:The title of this meditation marks its limitation, and indicates its scope. Here is no attempt at defense of the statement of the New Testament that "the Word was made flesh." That is taken for granted as true. Moreover, here is no attempt to explain the method of the Holy Mystery. That is recognized as Mystery: a fact revealed which is yet beyond human comprehension or explanation. The scope is that of considering in broad outline the plain teaching of the New Testament as to the purposes of the Incarnation. Its final limitation is that of its brevity. If, however, it serve to arouse a deeper sense of the wonder of the great central fact of our common Faith, and thus to inspire further meditation, its object will be gained. The IncarnationThe whole teaching of Holy Scripture places the Incarnation at the center of the methods of God with a sinning race.Toward that Incarnation everything moved until its accomplishment, finding therein fulfillment and explanation. The messages of the prophets and seers and the songs of the psalmists trembled with more or less certainty toward the final music which announced the coming of Christ. All the results also of these partial and broken messages of the past led toward the Incarnation. It is equally true that from that Incarnation all subsequent movements have proceeded, depending upon it for direction and dynamic. The Gospel stories are all concerned with the coming of Christ, with His mission and His message. The letters of the New Testament have all to do with the fact of the Incarnation, and its correlated doctrines and duties. The last book of the Bible is a book, the true title of which is The Unveiling of the Christ. Not only the actual messages which have been bound up in this one Divine Library, but all the results issuing from them, are finally results issuing from this self-same coming of Christ. It is surely important, therefore, that we should understand its purposes in the economy of God.There is a fourfold statement of purpose declared in the New Testament: the purpose to reveal the Father; the purpose to put away sin; the purpose to destroy the works of the devil; and the purpose to establish by another advent the Kingdom of God in the world.Christ was in conflict with all that was contrary to the purposes of God in individual, social, national, and racial life. There is a sense in which when we have said this we have stated the whole meaning of His coming. His revelation of the Father was toward this end; His putting away of sin was part of this very process; and His second advent will be for the complete and final overthrow of all the works of the devil.

Book excerpt: The incarnation--the act of God assuming mortal flesh through Jesus Christ--reveals God's radical love for a world marked by the rebellion of the created against their creator. God becomes human to create life and restore the disrupted divine-human relationship. This doctrine is thus the theme of the Christian faith par excellence. However, the incarnation does not begin with its ultimate realization in Jesus Christ; that single event is preceded by a long history of a God who continually reunites with his people to lead them from death to life, from bondage to freedom. God Becoming Human pursues the astonishing arc of the incarnation, chronicling the varying ways Scripture recounts the divide between God and the creatures of his likeness as well as the diverse expressions the text gives regarding the desire for reconciliation. As the expectations of an existing intermediary that can somehow bridge this gap between God and humans dwindle throughout the Old Testament, hope is increasingly placed on new forms of closeness to God. The closeness made possible by Jesus Christ receives a wide range of interpretations by New Testament witnesses and is continued by a rich chorus that culminates in the early church with the theology of the incarnation. Reinhard Feldmeier and Hermann Spieckermann invite readers to see that the doctrine of the incarnation, the pinnacle of the scriptural saga of redemption, reveals that God's ultimate purpose in dealing with creation was to become human. As narrated in the story of the fall, if paradise was lost because humanity wanted to emulate God, the one reconciled with God through Christ is now given the opportunity--and challenge--to become a child of God. In accordance with the One who descended from the heavenly throne, one must precisely lower oneself and thus fully embrace one's created humanness. It is through the flesh that the created and their creator are joined; there is no other path to unity.

Book excerpt: This book raises in a new way a formerly central but recently neglected question in systematic theology: what is the divine motive for the incarnation? Throughout Christian history theologians have agreed that God's decision to become incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ was made necessary by humanity's fall from grace. If Adam and Eve had not sinned, the incarnation would not have happened. This position is known as "infralapsarian." In the 19th and 20th centuries, however, some major theological figures championed a "supralapsarian" Christology, arguing that God had always intended the incarnation, independent of "the Fall." Edwin van Driel offers the first scholarly monograph to map and analyze the full range of supralapsarian arguments. He gives a thick description of each argument and its theological consequences, and evaluates the theological gains and losses inherent in each approach. Van Driel shows that each of the three ways in which God is thought to relate to all that is not God DL in creation, in redemption, and in eschatological consummation DL can serve as the basis for a supralapsarian argument. He illustrates this thesis with detailed case studies of the Christologies of Schleiermacher, Dorner, and Barth. He concludes that the most fruitful supralapsarian strategy is rooted in the notion of eschatological consummation, taking interpersonal interaction with God to be the goal of the incarnation. He goes on to develop his own argument along these lines, concluding in an eschatological vision in which God is visually, audibly, and tangibly present in the midst of God's people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most theologians believe that in the human life of Jesus of Nazareth, we encounter God. Yet how the divine and human come together in the life of Jesus still remains a question needing exploring. The Council of Chalcedon sought to answer the question by speaking of one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in divinity and also perfect in humanity, the same truly God and truly a human being. But ever since Chalcedon, the theological conversation on Christology has implicitly put Christs divinity and humanity in competition. While ancient (and not-so-ancient) Christologies from above focus on Christs divinity at the expense of his humanity, modern Christologies from below subsume his divinity into his humanity. What is needed, says Ian A. McFarland, is a Chalcedonianism without reserve, which not only affirms the humanity and divinity of Christ but also treats them as equal in theological significance. To do so, he draws on the ancient christological language that points to Christs nature, on the one hand, and his hypostasis, or personhood, on the other. And with this, McFarland begins one of the most creative and groundbreaking theological explorations into the mystery of the incarnation undertaken in recent memory.

Book The Incarnation of Truth

Download or read book The Incarnation of Truth written by Frederick D. Gorini and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is more than likely that you've heard the question asked, "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" Such a question makes it seem that truth can come in three different measures. While this is not necessarily the best way to describe it, it is accurate to say that truth can be revealed in a measure, a fuller measure, and in its fullest measure. There is a threefold revelation of the reason for the incarnation revealed in Scripture. Every Christian should know why God the Father sent His Son Jesus to dwell among us as a man. Unfortunately so many believers only know and believe the initial revelation of the purpose of the incarnation. I invite you to take a deeper journey into truth with me and be strengthened and made free by the fuller and fullest revelation of the reason for the incarnation. So . . . help us God! PASTOR FRED GORINI is a loving husband and father, who along with his covenant wife of 35 years founded a local church in Daytona Beach, Florida, 27 years ago. A strong believer in the local church, Pastor Fred continues to serve at Rock Church of Daytona Beach. Pastor Fred's visionary teachings are seasoned with prophetic insight that has edified the local church in his own community as well as in many relationally networked congregations around the United States of America. His revelation of the Word of God has been tested and proven not only in the United States, but also in several nations of South America, Asia, and Africa.

Book excerpt: Everyone, Christians included, knows what it’s like to feel isolated and alone. We’ve all wondered if anyone really understands us or truly cares about our lives. The good news is that we aren’t alone, and the gospel tells us why: Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to be forever united with his people—to be one of us. In fact, he has so united himself with us that the Bible says we are literally “in” him. Far from being alone and lost, the Incarnation changes everything for the Christian. Writing with everyday readers in mind, Elyse Fitzpatrick fleshes out the practical implications of our union with Christ and gives us confidence that we are not alone in this approachable and applicable devotional book.

Book excerpt: God has never really had a problem, but this book approaches the subject of the incarnation as if He did. The purpose for this is to give all of us who have finite minds a better picture of how God would have solved the need for man's redemption had He worked it out in the manner we are accustom to. The book considers the underlying message of God's love and His desire to meet every need of mankind. It is a contrast of Jehovah God and the many heathen gods surrounding Israel. This contrast is accomplished by studying out the process of God's revelation of Himself and His attributes by means of the various names He used to identify Himself. These compound names always incorporated the name of Jehovah with a secondary name, describing an attribute of His. The incarnation was a response by God to, no doubt, the greatest need of humanity... redemption, or as the name that is associated with this act reveals... salvation. God was faced with an impossible task that could only be resolved by this great act of incarnation. You will not only enjoy this book that commemorates the Christmas season, but hopefully gain some deeper insights to the first coming of our savior... Jesus Christ.
