Book The Paradox of Vertical Flight

Download or read book The Paradox of Vertical Flight written by Emil Ostrovski and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hilarious, deeply moving, mind-bending, original, romantic, and surprising, this debut teen novel by Emil Ostrovski will appeal to fans of John Green, Chris Crutcher, and Andrew Smith. Gary Shteyngart, author of the New York Times bestseller Super Sad True Love Story, says: "Do yourself a favor and get inside a car with Emil Ostrovski immediately! The Paradox of Vertical Flight is an amazing road trip. You're in for one heck of a ride." An Indie Next Pick! On the morning of his eighteenth birthday, Jack Polovsky kidnaps his own baby, names him Socrates, stocks up on baby supplies at Walmart, and hits the road with his best friend, Tommy, and with the baby's mother, Jess. As they head to Grandma's house (eluding the police at every turn), Jack tells baby Socrates the Greek myths—because all stories spring from those stories, really. Even this one. By turns funny, heart wrenching, and wholly original, this debut novel by Emil Ostrovski explores the nature of family, love, friendship, fatherhood, and myth. "Shares a sense of humor and philosophical bent with such YA authors as John Green and Chris Crutcher. But the story and likable characters are Ostrovsky's own, a delightful mix of quirky, intelligent, naive, well-intentioned, and just plain dumb teens. A delightful success."—ALA Booklist

Book An Approach to the Problem of Estimating Severe and Repeated Gust Loads for Missile Operations

Download or read book An Approach to the Problem of Estimating Severe and Repeated Gust Loads for Missile Operations written by Harry Press and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of available airplane measurements of vertical gust velocity is presented in order to arrive at a simple description of the frequency and intensity of gust velocities experienced by airplanes in operations. For the purpose of application to missile operations; the results obtained are modified to eliminate the effects of storm-avoidance procedures normally followed in airplane operations. The frequency distributions of gust velocity are then converted to a form appropriate for use in power spectral response calculations. Methods of applying the results to the estimation of the large and the small repeated loads in missile operations are then developed. Simple methods of estimating the gust loadings that will be exceeded with a given probability are presented in terms of missile response parameters and turbulence parameters. The limitations of the present results are also discussed briefly.

Book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics with CD Extra

Download or read book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics with CD Extra written by Gordon J. Leishman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-04-24 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an internationally recognized teacher and researcher, this book provides a thorough, modern treatment of the aerodynamic principles of helicopters and other rotating-wing vertical lift aircraft such as tilt rotors and autogiros. The text begins with a unique technical history of helicopter flight, and then covers basic methods of rotor aerodynamic analysis, and related issues associated with the performance of the helicopter and its aerodynamic design. It goes on to cover more advanced topics in helicopter aerodynamics, including airfoil flows, unsteady aerodynamics, dynamic stall, and rotor wakes, and rotor-airframe aerodynamic interactions, with final chapters on autogiros and advanced methods of helicopter aerodynamic analysis. Extensively illustrated throughout, each chapter includes a set of homework problems. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, practising engineers, and researchers will welcome this thoroughly revised and updated text on rotating-wing aerodynamics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steve Ainsworth’s follow-on to Vertical Trajectory Systems, this booklet goes over the physics of rocket flight and how, analytically, to optimize it for maximum altitude. While calculus is not involved, an understanding of Newtonian mechanics at the high school physics level is required to make the best use of the material here. As with Vertical Trajectory Systems, this is not a book for beginners! It will, however, provide an excellent reference for rocketeers as they expand their knowledge in the hobby.
