Book Worship in the Presbyterian Church in Korea

Download or read book Worship in the Presbyterian Church in Korea written by Seong-Won Park and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Korean Protestant church has made an astonishing growth in the relatively short period for over a hundred years of mission history. No doubt, worship has made a major contribution to this increase. To what extent and in what sense can the worship of the Korean Presbyterian church be called Reformed? To what extent was it deformed or reformed? What kind of continuity or discontinuity has the Korean Presbyterian worship with the 16th century Geneva worship and with the historical development of Reformed worship? What would all these developments mean in terms of Reformed ethos of worship? The author tried to answer these questions through a study on history of worship in the Presbyterian Church in Korea. The answer the author found is that the Korean Presbyterian becomes more Korean by becoming more Reformed and more Reformed by becoming more Korean.

Book Doing Theology in the New Normal

Download or read book Doing Theology in the New Normal written by Jione Havea and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responses to the recent pandemic have been driven by fear, with social distancing and locking down of communities and borders as the most effective tactics. Out of fear and strategies that separate and isolate, emerges what has been described as the “new normal” (which seems to mutate daily). Truly global in scope, with contributors from across the world, this collection revisits four old responses to crises – assure, protest, trick, amend – to explore if/how those might still be relevant and effective and/or how they might be mutated during and after a global pandemic. Together they paint a grounded, earthy, context-focused picture of what it means to do theology in the new normal.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Calvin and Calvinism

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Calvin and Calvinism written by Bruce Gordon and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 711 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Calvin and Calvinism offers a comprehensive assessment of John Calvin and the tradition of Calvinism as it evolved from the sixteenth century to today. Featuring contributions from scholars who present the latest research on a pluriform religious movement that became a global faith. The volume focuses on key aspects of Calvin's thought and its diverse reception in Europe, the transatlantic world, Africa, South America, and Asia. Calvin's theology was from the beginning open to a wide range of interpretations and was never a static body of ideas and practices. Over the course of his life his thought evolved and deepened while retaining unresolved tensions and questions that created a legacy that was constantly evolving in different cultural contexts. Calvinism itself is an elusive term, bringing together Christian communities that claim a shared heritage but often possess radically distinct characters. The Handbook reveals fascinating patterns of continuity and change to demonstrate how the movement claimed the name of the Genevan reformer but was moulded by an extraordinary range of religious, intellectual and historical influences, from the Enlightenment and Darwinism to indigenous African beliefs and postmodernism. In its global contexts, Calvinism has been continuously reimagined and reinterpreted. This collection throws new light on the highly dynamic and fluid nature of a deeply influential form of Christianity.
