Download or read book The Preparation of Teachers in Ontario and the United States Classic Reprint written by Frank Arthur Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Preparation of Teachers in Ontario and the United States In Ontario extensive provision is made for the preparation of teachers. Every position in the schools, from Kindergarten to University, must be filled by a trained teacher if such is available, and no one can receive a permanent certificate as a teacher Without Scholarship, pedagogical training, and experience. The academic and professional courses are distinctly separated; the professional training being acquired in special schools, after the acquisition of academic knowledge in the High Schools or Universities. Teachers of different qualifications are required for the various grades of schools, and hence there have been established three types of training schools for teachers; the Provincial Model Schools, the Provincial Normal Schools, and the Faculties of Education in the University of Toronto and in Queen's University, Kingston. In the High Schools, special courses are provided for those who are seeking to enter upon the work of teaching. Students who desire to attend a Model School must pass the examination known as Entrance to Model Schools, at the end of a two years' course. Those who wish to attend a' Normal School must Com plete this course and continue for two years longer, when they must pass the Entrance to Normal School examination. A further course Of two years prepares them for the Entrance to Faculty examination. There is still another way in which a student may proceed in his preparation; he may take the matriculation course in the High School and secure a degree in Arts from a University after an attendance of four years. This degree will admit him to the Faculty of Education. He may have specialized during his University career, and then upon graduating from the Faculty of Education, he may secure a Specialist professional certificate. A' holder of such a certificate usually becomes a teacher in a High School or Collegiate Institute. Prospective teachers who attend the Universities take their courses in Arts with students who will enter other professions. Book Preparing STEM Teachers

Download or read book Preparing STEM Teachers written by Joanne E. Goodell and published by IAP. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STEM project-based instruction is a pedagogical approach that is gaining popularity across the USA. However, there are very few teacher education programs that focus specifically on preparing graduates to teach in project-based environments. This book is focused on the UTeach program, a STEM teacher education model that is being implemented across the USA in 46 universities. Originally focused only on mathematics and science, many UTeach programs are now offering engineering and computer science licensure programs as well. This book provides a forum to disseminate how different institutions have implemented the UTeach model in their local context. Topics discussed will include sustainability features of the model, and how program assessment, innovative instructional programming, classroom research and effectiveness research have contributed to its success. The objectives of the book are: • To help educators gain insight into a teacher education organizational model focused on STEM and how and why it was developed • To present the theoretical underpinnings of a STEM education model, i.e. deep learning, conceptual understanding • To present innovative instructional programming in teacher education, i.e. projectbased instruction, functions and modeling, research methods • To present research and practice in classroom and field implementation and future research recommendations • To disseminate program assessments and improvement efforts

Book Middle Level Teacher Preparation across International Contexts

Download or read book Middle Level Teacher Preparation across International Contexts written by Cheryl R. Ellerbrock and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-09-02 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a cross-national analysis of teacher education programs designed to prepare teachers for work in middle level schools. The book showcases 15 detailed case studies of courses at institutions across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa—including from countries currently underrepresented in middle level literature—which provide detailed information on programming whilst foregrounding the political, social, and cultural factors which have influenced priorities within teacher education. Underpinning the book is a comparative case study framework, used to identify divergences and commonalities within and across nations whereby factors such as globalization, policy, and socio-cultural views of teaching and adolescence are explored as determinants of the nature, success, and challenges of middle level teacher preparation. This text will benefit scholars, academics, and students in the fields of middle level education, teacher education, and international and comparative education. Those involved with educational policy and politics, as well as teacher training and the sociology of education more broadly, will also benefit from this volume.
