Book Digital Black White Landscape Photography

Download or read book Digital Black White Landscape Photography written by and published by Amherst Media. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landscape photography is a popular photographic genre—and for good reason. The great outdoors is an ever-ready subject. It is variable, as well; it is affected by changing light, decomposition, weather, human interaction, and myriad other factors. Its features range from natural to manmade elements—and many landscapes are comprised of both. Photographers who point their camera’s lens at a scene do so in an effort to communicate their feelings about the landscape. Rather than simply document the scene, they seek to capture the spirit of place—perhaps to tell a story or depict a mood. They aim to share with viewers the ways in which the scene speaks to them. Accomplishing these goals may seem simple at the outset, but the task is rife with challenges. In this book, Gary Wagner shows readers how to create powerful, evocative black & white landscape photographs filled with beautiful light, a full range of tones, and exquisite detail. Beginning with a look at the gear you’ll need to get the best-possible images, Wagner covers cameras, lens types, tripods, and filters. He then discusses the postproduction processes he uses to enhance his images, producing breathtaking photographic records of natural and man-altered locales.

Download or read book Macro Photography written by Rob Sheppard and published by Peachpit Press. This book was released on 2015-03-04 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Close-up and macro photography is one of the most popular types of photography among digital photographers today. After the big-range zoom, a macro lens is typically one of the next purchases considered by serious outdoor photographers and amateur photographers looking for close-up capability in all zoom lenses. Yet hobbyist photographers struggle. Many macro shots just don’t make it–not sharp, confusing backgrounds, muddled compositions, misplaced sharpness, and distracting light. Even more advanced photographers find challenges working with depth of field, dealing with light, and using different focal lengths up close. You need a book that goes beyond the camera manuals to teach you how to select and use various lenses to take great macro shots. This guide by pro photographer Rob Sheppard will help you conquer the fundamentals and capture stunning pictures. Sheppard starts with the basics. He discusses factors such as depth of field, perspective, and compression and which types of lenses are right for your style of shooting. You will have a better understanding of your equipment and understand your choices for investing in lenses. Beautifully illustrated with large, compelling photos, this book teaches you how to take control of your photography to get the image you want every time you pick up the camera.

Book Impressions of Nature in Black and White

Download or read book Impressions of Nature in Black and White written by William A. Carlson and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2015-12-04 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Journey Through the Spheres of Nature Capturing the Essence of Each Moment's Beauty and Inspiration. William A. (Bill) Carlson's expeditions through the spheres of Nature have been a source of inspiration and great joy for him for many years. Photographers near and far have encouraged him to "do" a book of his Black & White pieces, and so it is that he now publishes this collection: IMPRESSIONS OF NATURE IN BLACK AND WHITE, Landscape Photography with Accompanying Verse. When attempting to describe the process he has experienced, he shares these concepts: "It is the development of a consciousness-the sensitivity-of the environment that I attempt to capture in each photograph. I search for elements and patterns of simplicity, spaciousness and sensory response...the interplay of light and shadow." Bill Carlson's career in geology led him to photography. While performing field and management assignments for oil, mining and utility companies, he became cognizant of the intricate landforms and abstract patterns in Nature. The desire to capture what he saw became difficult to ignore and he began taking photographs with both 120 and 35mm format film cameras. Finding "just the right vantage point" was always well worth the effort. Bill's photography has received numerous awards and publication credits including first place recognition in the Famous Photographers School competition of 6,000 International entries. For approximately ten years Bill, and several well-known photographers, shared gallery space in the prestigious Cherry Creek North shopping/arts district of Denver, Colorado. Many of Bill's photographs hang in the homes of private collectors who compared his pieces to those of Ansel Adams. His first collection of black and white photographs with accompanying verse-A Walk Through Mountain, Meadow, Marsh and Woodland-was published in 2001. The second collection is in color: From Delicate Lily Pads to Sculptured Peaks, Landscape Photography with Verse Impressions from North America, Scandinavia, and New Zealand, published in 2014. The black and white photographs included in this book were taken during the period 1960 to 2012.

Book The Landscape in Black and White

Download or read book The Landscape in Black and White written by Oliver Schuchard and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this magnificent book, Oliver Schuchard provides more than sixty-five exquisite black-and-white photographs spanning his thirty-eight years of photography. In addition, he explains the aesthetic rationale and techniques he used in order to produce these photographs, emphasizing the profound differences between, yet necessary interdependence of, craft and content. Although Schuchard believes that craft is important, he maintains that the idea behind the photograph and the emotional content of the image are equally vital and are, in fact, functions of one another. The author also shares components of his life experience that he believes helped shape his development as an artist and a teacher. He chose the splendid photographs included in this book from among nearly 5,000 negatives that had been exposed all over the world, from Missouri to Maine, California, Alaska, Colorado, France, Newfoundland, and Hawaii, among many other locations. Approximately 250 negatives survived the initial review, and each of those was printed before a final decision was made on which photographs were to be featured in the book. The final choices are representative of Schuchard's work and serve to substantiate his belief that craft, concept, and self must be fully understood and carefully melded for a good photograph to occur. This amazing work by award-winning photographer Oliver Schuchard will be treasured by professional and amateur photographers alike, as well as by anyone who simply enjoys superb photography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ansel Adams was an American photographer born in San Francisco, California on February 20, 1902. He is considered one of the most important and influential photographers of the 20th century. Adams developed a passion for photography at a young age and began taking pictures with a Box Brownie camera. His first published photograph appeared in the Sierra Club Bulletin in 1922. Adams is best known for his work in landscape photography, particularly his images of the American West. His black and white photographs captured the rugged beauty of the landscapes and helped to influence how people viewed and appreciated the natural world. Adams was also a writer and a conservationist, and he dedicated much of his life to protecting the environment and promoting conservation efforts. Adams was a pioneer in the use of the zone system, a photographic technique that he developed to ensure consistent exposure and tonality in his photographs. He was also an advocate for the use of large-format cameras that produced high-quality images with sharp detail and tonal range. Adams’ photography was characterized by his use of bold contrasts, deep shadows, and rich textures. His images often featured dramatic skies, natural patterns, or the interplay of light and shadow. His photographs helped to redefine landscape photography as a fine art, and his impact on the field continues to be felt today. Adams died in Monterey, California on April 22, 1984, but his legacy lives on through his photographs and his contributions to the world of photography and conservation.
