The prophetical books also afford conclusive evidence both of the existence and identity of the five books of Moses. This may be shown by comparing the allusions of the earlier prophets to the Mosaical law with the Pentateuch as we now have it. Joel lived 650 years after Moses. Compare Joel 1. 9, 13 with Lev. Vii.-xi.: iv. 11 with Gen. Xix. 24, 25; ix. 13 with Lev. Xxvi. 5. Hosea lived 670 years after Moses. Compare Hos. Ix. X. With Num. Xxv. 3 xi. 8 with Gen. Xix. 24, 25 xii. 4, 5 with Gen.
