Book The Physiology of Muscular Exercise

Download or read book The Physiology of Muscular Exercise written by Francis Arthur Bainbridge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Physiology of Muscular Exercise In no science is the advance at any one time general. Some sections of the line are pushed forward while other parts may remain for years with little movement, until in their turn they are enabled to progress in consequence of the support afforded by the advance of the adjacent sections. The increasing number of series of monographs in different sciences is a recognition of this fact, as well as of the concentration of interest which characterises this age of specialisation. In the present series it is intended to set out the progress of physiology in those chapters in which the forward movement is the most pronounced. Each monograph will contain an account of our knowledge of some particular branch of physiology, written by one who has himself contributed in greater or less degree to the attainment of our present position. It is hoped that by securing the help of men who are actively engaged in the advance of the subject the outlook of each monograph will be forwards rather than backwards. An exhaustive account of previous writings on the subject concerned is not aimed at, but rather an appreciation of what is worth retaining in past work, so far as this is suggestive of the paths along which future research may be fruitful of results. The more valuable the monographs in inspiring the work of others, the greater will be the success of the series. Book Strength and How to Obtain It Classic Reprint

Download or read book Strength and How to Obtain It Classic Reprint written by Eugen Sandow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-29 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Strength and How to Obtain It Hundreds of letters reach me daily, asking Can I become strong? Yes; you can all become strong if you have the will and use it in the right direction. But, in the first place, you must learn to exercise your mind. This first of all lessons in physical training is of the utmost importance. For on it the whole of my system depends. If physical exercise alone and unaided could achieve the desired end, then would every one who, like the breaker of stones, has to use his muscles to earn his daily bread, become, in a popular acceptation of the term, a strong 1 man. The breaker of stones, however, never usemhis' mind. He has to get through a given amount of work, and his method is purely mechanical. Though he may use his muscles in hard work every day of the year it is unlikely that his strength will ever materially increase.
