Book excerpt: This is an expanded version of the report by the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Beyond the Standard Model Working Group which was contributed to Particle Physics — Perspectives and Opportunities, a report of the Division of Particles and Fields Committee for Long Term Planning. One of the Working Group's primary goals was to study the phenomenology of electroweak symmetry breaking and attempt to quantify the “physics reach” of present and future colliders. Their investigations encompassed the Standard Model — with one doublet of Higgs scalars — and approaches to physics beyond the Standard Model. These include models of low-energy supersymmetry, dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking, and a variety of extensions of the Standard Model with new particles and interactions. The Working Group also considered signals of new physics in precision measurements arising from virtual processes and examined experimental issues associated with the study of electroweak symmetry breaking and the search for new physics at present and future hadron and lepton colliders.This volume represents an important contribution to the efforts being made to advance the frontiers of particle physics.

Book excerpt: It is possible to construct models based on warped extra dimensions in which electroweak symmetry breaking takes place without the introduction of any Higgs fields. This breaking can occur through the judiciuous choice of boundary conditions applied to gauge fields living in the bulk. One then finds that the fifth components of these bulk fields act as the Goldstone bosons, even for the would-be zero modes of the Kaluza-Klein tower. In this talk I will discuss the phenomenology of such scenarios, in particular, the problems associated with the construction of realistic models due to the simultaneous constraints imposed by precision electroweak data, present collider search limits and the requirement of perturbative unitarity in W{sub L}W{sub L}− elastic scattering. Future collider signatures for such scenarios are also discussed.

Book excerpt: Ln the framework of warped extra dimension models addressing the gauge hierarchy problem, we consider the Randall-Sundrum scenario under the usual hypothesis of a bulk custodial symmetry protecting the model from large ElectroWeak corrections together with a Higgs field localized on the so-called TeV-brane. After reviewing the basics of field theory in extra dimensions, we introduce the RS framework, and show in details the construction of our phenomenological model as well as the effects of EW symmetry breaking. We determine the several minimal quark representations allowing to address the anomalies in the forward-backward b-quark asymmetry. It is then shown in details that there can exist large corrections to the Higgs boson Vacuum Expectation Value induced by mixings of the gauge bosons with their KK excitations. The connection with EW precision tests is developed. We find possibly substantial RS corrections to the various Higgs couplings able to affect its phenomenology. The end of this thesis is dedicated to SuperSymmetric extension of warped models, the Higgs field still being confined on the TeV-brane.
