Book Baptized with the Holy Ghost

Download or read book Baptized with the Holy Ghost written by Grant Ralston and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptized with the Holy Ghost has been designed to briefly explain the Pentecostal perspective on the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Pentecostals are dedicated to a belief in a post-conversion work of the Spirit, a belief that is convincingly articulated in this important book. Pentecostals also maintain that speaking in tongues is the initial, physical evidence of this glorious experience. While many might shy away from the biblical teaching on speaking with tongues, we gladly affirm its existence and agree that it is the initial indicator that a believer has received the Holy Ghost, although it is not the only sign. There are many reasons why it is advantageous for Christians to be filled with the Holy Ghost that are presented. God has established certain conditions that must be met in order for the gift of the Holy Ghost to be received. We endeavor to answer questions and issues closely connected to this topic, such as if tongues ceased and whether every believer speaks in tongues. Baptized with the Holy Ghost will not only inform you about this precious experience available to every child of God, but it will also create within you a desire to enjoy for yourself the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Book The Pentecostal Movement A Short History And An Interpretation For British Readers

Download or read book The Pentecostal Movement A Short History And An Interpretation For British Readers written by Donald Gee and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief history and interpretation of the Pentecostal Movement has been written expressly for British readers. Just so much of the history of the Movement in its world-wide aspect has been introduced as is necessary to retain a sense of proportion, and illustrate the truly world-wide scope of the Pentecostal Revival. American and Swedish friends already have similar books written from their particular standpoint. The “Elim” work in the British Isles has had the same. There seemed a need for a more general survey of the Movement as it has developed as a whole in Britain. It is as impossible as it would be unwise to try and record every detail and incident. An attempt has been made to provide that which is really necessary—a record of those salient facts, and outstanding personalities, upon which the British history of the Movement really turns; coupled with enough of detail and incident to make the narrative vivid and alive.

Book excerpt: Joseph Smale (1867-1926) was one of the central figures involved in the chain of events leading to the 1906 Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles. This important study presents the diverse influences which impacted Smale - formative years in Britain, growing up in Cornwall and Somerset amid a rhythm of Wesleyan revival; Reformed theological training under the tutelage of C.H. Spurgeon in London; migration to the United States; plus hard experiences in the 'school of anxiety' - which were all precursors for Smale's influential role as champion of Pentecostal revival. Smale's leadership will resonate with every church leader who prays for revival and longs for more Holy Spirit power experimentally. Smale's 'Moses' designation and biography have profound relevance for the church in the present day.

Book The Pentecostal Commentary

Download or read book The Pentecostal Commentary written by Billy M. Prewitt and published by TrinityBibleSchool.com. This book was released on 2021-09-04 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Trinitarian Exposition of the New Testament This series is designed with the serious Trinitarian Pentecostal student in mind. With a foundational commitment to the inspiration and infallibility of Scripture, each passage is explained in terms of its theological and practical significance. In addition: • The distinctive Pentecostal pneumatology is sustained • Key doctrines are identified and expounded • Important cross references within Scripture are noted • Historical connections in Church history are mentioned • Erroneous teachings are scrutinized • Comments are based on the King James Version • The KJV text is printed in the body of the commentary With a modern style of readability, this commentary series is appropriate for anyone seeking to grow and understand the truths of Scripture and is especially helpful to pastors as well as college and seminary students. Author’s Foreward As a Pentecostal student attending a Pentecostal Bible college, I went to the college bookstore to purchase my textbooks without knowing that the commentaries on my book list were written by non-Pentecostals. Even though my classes required commentaries from various publishers, none of the publishers were Pentecostal. I often wondered why a Pentecostal Bible school would use non-Pentecostal commentaries for class. What I did not know at the time was that there really was no such thing as a Pentecostal commentary written for and by Pentecostals. Since then, there have been a few Pentecostals who have written on individual books, but there are significant portions of even the New Testament that have had little or no Pentecostal voice. As a result, serious Pentecostal students have no other choice but to learn at the feet of non-Pentecostals. I am not opposed to non-Pentecostal commentaries. Indeed, I have gained considerable insights from reading such, but there are two points of theology that I must consciously filter out every time I read them. The most important concern to a Pentecostal is that the pneumatology (the study of the Holy Spirit) presented by non-Pentecostals is very different than that of a Pentecostal. The second point is the emphasis on Calvinistic doctrines especially eternal security with which most Pentecostals do not agree. In addition, there are other theological differences and substantially different hermeneutical principals that can dramatically alter the interpretation of texts in non-Pentecostal ways. In my studies, I have always desired to have a commentary that was thoroughly Pentecostal, but I never imagined that I would write one. From one Pentecostal to another, I hope you will find this series to be a breath of fresh Spirit anointed air. Series Preface While it is hoped that Bible students from other theological traditions will study and benefit from its contents, it is first and foremost Pentecostal. As such, this commentary does not include surveys of other viewpoints unless such inclusion is necessary for clarity of argument. In addition, with all due respect to our Charismatic brethren, it may be said that this series is not meant to be inclusive of Charismatic interpretations related to pneumatology. The Pentecostal Commentary series intentionally excludes views of Scripture that do not hold to its inspiration, inerrancy, and infallibility, and also excludes modern liberal arguments of authorship, date, purpose, and so on. Traditional viewpoints on these subjects will be discussed without confusing the issue. In addition, 19th century criticism methods and concerns over source documents will not often be discussed. In other words, this series assumes that the Biblical text is as God wants it to be and that it was written by the person and at the time traditionally ascribed.

Book A B Simpson and the Pentecostal Movement

Download or read book A B Simpson and the Pentecostal Movement written by Charles Nienkirchen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-05-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Based on impressive research, the author has offered the spiritual heirs of A. B. Simpson, as well as the larger church world, an accurate interpretation of Simpson's spiritual pilgrimage. The information about Simpson's belief in speaking in tongues and the ministries of those who remained or left the Alliance over the issue, provides valuable insights into the close relationship between the organization and emerging Pentecostal movement." -- Gary B. McGee Professor of Church History, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary "It is good news indeed that Charles Nienkirchen's A. B. Simpson and the Pentecostal Movement is being republished. This is a very important and well written work which sheds light not only on A. B. Simpson's quest for the tongues-attested baptism in the Holy Spirit but on the milieu surrounding the early spread of Pentecostalism in America and especially in the Christian and Missionary Alliance. This is a historical treasure." --Vinson Synan, Dean Emeritus Regent University School of Divinity "Simpson has long deserved an in-depth study. A pivotal turn-of-the-century figure who never found full acceptance in any wing of American evangelicalism, this prolific Canadian nonetheless profoundly influenced popular evangelicalism and Anglo-American Pentecostalism. Nienkirchen makes careful use of long-unused primary sources to illuminate Simpson's relationship to early Pentecostalism. The result is a suggestive work that offers perceptive insights into early Pentecostalism and the context from which it emerged." -- Edith L. Blumhofer Project Director Institute for the Study of American Evangelicalism, Wheaton "Nienkirchen provides a splendid study of the relationship of A. B. Simpson to Pentecostalism. This book demonstrates wide knowledge of primary materials and great care in documentation (with about one-third of the text devoted to footnote material). Nienkirchen clearly delineates the major elements in Simpson's religious thought and gives attention to the most significant ways in which his thought changed. His major interest in this book focuses on the ways in which Simpson influenced the formation of early Pentecostalism. Pentecostals accept some elements of Simpson's teaching and rejected or modified others, but Nienkirchen argues persuasively the case for Simpson's importance in understanding Pentecostalism; moreover, he clearly illustrates specific ways -- both direct and indirect -- in which that influence was felt in the complex story of early holiness-pentecostal relationships." -- William Pitts Professor of Church History Baylor University "Charles Nienkirchen has supplied those interested in the history and theology of American Evangelicalism, the Christian and Missionary Alliance, or the Pentecostal movement with an invaluable reference tool and an interpretive lens through which to understand them. This 'must-read' has shown its worth by remaining as relevant, informative and provocative as when it first went to press." --Bernie A. Van De Walle Associate Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology Ambrose University College and Seminary Calgary, AB "In A. B. Simpson and the Pentecostal Movement, Charles Nienkirken has combined prodigious research with mastery of historical and theological sources to produce a superb study of Simpson's relationship with early pentecostalism. This is a most important and useful work." -- Randall Balmer Barnard College, Columbia University

Book The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in South Africa

Download or read book The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in South Africa written by Ilana van Wyk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), a church of Brazilian origin, has been enormously successful in establishing branches and attracting followers in post-apartheid South Africa. Unlike other Pentecostal Charismatic Churches (PCC), the UCKG insists that relationships with God be devoid of 'emotions', that socialisation between members be kept to a minimum and that charity and fellowship are 'useless' in materialising God's blessings. Instead, the UCKG urges members to sacrifice large sums of money to God for delivering wealth, health, social harmony and happiness. While outsiders condemn these rituals as empty or manipulative, this book shows that they are locally meaningful, demand sincerity to work, have limits and are informed by local ideas about human bodies, agency and ontological balance. As an ethnography of people rather than of institutions, this book offers fresh insights into the mass PCC movement that has swept across Africa since the early 1990s.

Book The Rejected Blessing

Download or read book The Rejected Blessing written by Jim Kerwin and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Rejected Blessing author Jim Kerwin looks back at the pivotal years of the revival (1906-1912) and focuses on a major paradigm shift in one of the movements major teachings. With Pentecostalisms theological roots in the historic teaching of heart purity, as taught by John Wesley and the early Methodists, how was it that this doctrine was diluted and almost completely eradicated in a matter of two years (1910-1912)? Kerwin highlights the ministry of William Durham, the key player in this epic overthrow, the deadly challenge of prophetic Russian roulette that ensued, and how the after¬math affects Pentecostal¬ism to this day.

Book The Challenges of the Pentecostal Charismatic and Messianic Jewish Movements

Download or read book The Challenges of the Pentecostal Charismatic and Messianic Jewish Movements written by Peter Hocken and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the Pentecostal and charismatic movements, tracing their development and their variety. Hocken shows how these movements of the Holy Spirit, both outside the mainline churches and as renewal currents within the churches, can be understood as mutually challenging and as complementary. The similarities and the differences are significant. The Messianic Jewish movement possesses elements of both the new and the old. Addressing the issues of modernity and globalization, this book explores major phenomena in contemporary Christianity including the relationship between the new churches and entrepreneurial capitalism.
