Book The Origin and Destiny of Mankind

Download or read book The Origin and Destiny of Mankind written by Rev. Dr. Walter Johnson and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to explain the origin and destiny of mankind. God made man in his own image and likeness. Man was in a holy state as God, but he disobeyed God and fell into sin. Only God could deliver man out of his situation. This book explains how God delivered man and what God expects of man while he is on this earth. Man has to go through three processes. He has to go through justification, sanctification, and glorification. We will explain each stage. Justification deals with man’s salvation, and sanctification deals with man everyday living. But glorification takes place at death. Man is glorified when he goes through the grave, is resurrected to a new life, and is carried to be with the Lord. Before man is glorified, he has to go before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account of his stewardship. There are two judgments—one for the believer and one for nonbeliever. The final question is, does the believer live under the law of Moses or under the grace of God? These are questions that we will be dealing with. My prayer is that you will be blessed as you study this book.

Book excerpt: A New York Times-bestselling author explains how the physical world shaped the history of our species When we talk about human history, we often focus on great leaders, population forces, and decisive wars. But how has the earth itself determined our destiny? Our planet wobbles, driving changes in climate that forced the transition from nomadism to farming. Mountainous terrain led to the development of democracy in Greece. Atmospheric circulation patterns later on shaped the progression of global exploration, colonization, and trade. Even today, voting behavior in the south-east United States ultimately follows the underlying pattern of 75 million-year-old sediments from an ancient sea. Everywhere is the deep imprint of the planetary on the human. From the cultivation of the first crops to the founding of modern states, Origins reveals the breathtaking impact of the earth beneath our feet on the shape of our human civilizations.

Book The Destiny of Man

Download or read book The Destiny of Man written by John Fiske and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Destiny of Man: Viewed in the Light of His Origin Having been invited to give an ad-dress before the Concord School of Philosophy this summer, upon some subject relating to the question of immortality there under discussion, it seemed a proper occasion for putting together the following thoughts on the origin of Man and his place in the universe. In dealing with the unknown, it is well to take one's start a long way within the limits of the known. The question of a future life is generally regarded as lying outside the range of legitimate scientific discussion. Yet while fully admitting this, one does not necessarily admit that the subject is one with regard to which we are forever debarred from entertaining an opinion. Download or read book The Destiny of Man written by John Fiske and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1884, American historian and philosopher John Fiske published The Destiny of Man, which discussed humanity's origin, destiny and place in the universe. A leading populariser of Darwin's theory in the United States and influenced by Herbert Spencer, Fiske considers views of human progress via evolutionary social change and the harmony between science and religion. The Destiny of Man is composed of sixteen chapters that anticipate philosophical questions from a typical non-scientific audience: the origins of atheism, the shifting hierarchal positions of humanity through history as proposed by Copernicus and later by Darwin, human brain size, and the 'dawning of consciousness' as a result of the growth and development of moral sentiment and inventiveness through natural selection. Interestingly, at the end of the book, Fiske discusses the historical power relationships of ruling governments and predicts that as humans evolve and become more civilised, war will eventually end.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Mankind: Their Origin and Destiny In ancient times this was not the case, as will presently be shown. Theology was based upon such science as existed at that time, and Science and Theology were consequently in harmony with each other. This harmony has long ceased to exist in consequence of the rapid progress which Science has made, while Theology has remained unchanged. One great cause of this has been that adherence to the literal interpretation of the Scriptures which has prevailed for more than a thousand years to the exclusion of every other, although St. Jerome has said The most difficult and Obscure of the holy books contain as many secrets as they do words: that is to say too little: they conceal many things under each word. Several learned works have been written to explain the secret, that is the real, meaning Of these books, and this volume contains a brief abstract Of the most impor tant of these, which are wholly unknown to English readers, combined with much original matter and information from other sources. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Misunderstandings about what it means for humans to be created in God's image have wreaked devastation throughout history -- for example, slavery in the U. S., genocide in Nazi Germany, and the demeaning of women everywhere. In Dignity and Destiny John Kilner explores what the Bible itself teaches about humanity being in God's image. He discusses in detail all of the biblical references to the image of God, interacts extensively with other work on the topic, and documents how misunderstandings of it have been so problematic. People made according to God's image, Kilner says, have a special connection with God and are intended to be a meaningful reflection of him. Because of sin, they don't actually reflect him very well, but Kilner shows why the popular idea that sin has damaged the image of God is mistaken. He also clarifies the biblical difference between being God's image (which Christ is) and being in God's image (which humans are). He explains how humanity's creation and renewal in God's image are central, respectively, to human dignity and destiny. Locating Christ at the center of what God's image means, Kilner charts a constructive way forward and reflects on the tremendously liberating impact that a sound understanding of the image of God can have in the world today.
