In March 2020, “normal” life changed, perhaps forever. In its place we were confronted with life and routines that were unusual and different: the new normal. As we’ve all learned since then, the new normal isn’t just about wearing masks and standing six feet apart—it’s about recognizing how to stay safe and sane in a world that is suddenly unfamiliar. And no one understands this evolving landscape better than Dr. Jennifer Ashton. Book excerpt: Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture, and Design was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Alexander Mamut in 2009 to change the cultural and physical landscapes of Russian cities. The institute promotes positive changes and creates new ideas and values through its educational activities. This thorough, inspirational book is the first major publication emerging from Strelka's The New Normal program. The institute's most ambitious research unit focuses on research and design for Moscow and explores the opportunities posed by emerging technologies for interdisciplinary urban design practices. Strelka is a speculative urbanism think-tank and a platform for the invention and articulation of a new discourse and new models. The New Normal has been conceived by the American sociologist and architectural theorist Benjamin H. Bratton, who is known for his unique mix of philosophical and aesthetic research, organizational planning and strategy, and for his writing on the cultural implications of computing and globalization. The book features seventeen lavishly illustrated contributions by international researchers and designers that outline the scope of The New Normal's output, held together by a thematic essay in nine chapters by Bratton. Highly topical, this first comprehensive survey of research work produced by The New Normal program will appeal to all readers interested in the future of cities and urban design.

Book The Digital Multinational

Download or read book The Digital Multinational written by Satish Nambisan and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How multinational companies can use digital technology to compete in a world where business is driven by the forces of both globalization and deglobalization. Digital technology has put globalization on steroids; multinational companies now account for one-third of world GDP and one-fourth of world employment. And yet complicating this story of unchecked global capitalism are two contradictory forces. Even as advances in digital technology enable borderless markets, a new nationalism has emerged, reviving protectionism and railing against digital colonialism. In The Digital Multinational, management experts Satish Nambisan and Yadong Luo examine how companies can adopt a dual strategy to cope with this new normal: harnessing the power of digital technology while adapting to the geopolitical realities of particular markets. Key to success, Nambisan and Luo explain, is the notion of tight and loose coupling to characterize the relationship of the digital multinational to its global partners and subsidiaries. Identifying the tightness-looseness requirements of global business connectivity leads to successful business strategy. Drawing on real-world examples that include Burberry’s entrance into the Chinese market, Unilever’s AI-powered global talent marketplace, and the Vocal for Local movement in India, they develop a typology of global business contexts; discuss digital strategies for entering new markets, establishing digital platforms, managing globally dispersed activities, and pursuing innovation; and explain how these strategies can be part of a business leader’s toolkit. The Digital Multinational is an essential guide to competing in a business world driven by both globalization and deglobalization.

Book excerpt: Tamar Robinson knows a lot about loss—more than any teenager should. Her younger sisters are dead, her parents are adrift in a sea of grief, and now Tamar is losing her hair. Nevertheless, she navigates her rocky life as best she can, not always with grace, but with her own brand of twisted humor. She joins the chess club with her friend Roy, earns a part in the school production of The Wizard of Oz, buys an awesome wig, lands a crappy job, gets invited to the prom (by three different guys!) and helps her parents re-enter the land of the living. What Tamar lacks in tact (and hair), she makes up for in sheer tenacity.

Book The Global Trade Slowdown

Download or read book The Global Trade Slowdown written by Cristina Constantinescu and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-01-21 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper focuses on the sluggish growth of world trade relative to income growth in recent years. The analysis uses an empirical strategy based on an error correction model to assess whether the global trade slowdown is structural or cyclical. An estimate of the relationship between trade and income in the past four decades reveals that the long-term trade elasticity rose sharply in the 1990s, but declined significantly in the 2000s even before the global financial crisis. These results suggest that trade is growing slowly not only because of slow growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but also because of a structural change in the trade-GDP relationship in recent years. The available evidence suggests that the explanation may lie in the slowing pace of international vertical specialization rather than increasing protection or the changing composition of trade and GDP.

By unpacking the truths of Scripture and sharing powerful personal stories, John will guide you on a faith-filled journey that has the potential to reshape your future." —CRAIG GROESCHEL, NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING AUTHOR, SENIOR PASTOR, LIFE.CHURCH Too many of us visit the land of God’s blessing but never live there. What if what you have grown accustomed to is far less than what God has for you? What if what you call “normal” falls tragically short of what you were created for? What if the difference between you living in God’s best and where you find yourself today is simply your willingness to rise up and fight to experience the new normal—He has for you? The truth is far too many of us visit the land of God’s blessing but never live there. We spend much of our lives feeling like we are on the outside of His blessing looking in, but never knowing a sustained experience of God’s best. The reason for our sporadic acquaintance with the fullness of God’s goodness is that we are not willing to wage the battle necessary to inhabit that new normal. This book explores the pathway into the Promise Land that Joshua and the people of Israel trekked and provides spiritual principles for fighting the spiritual battles that unlock a life of walking in God’s best. In New Normal, John Lindell invites you to join him on a life-changing journey following Joshua and the nation of Israel as they find out what it takes to live in the land of blessing God has prepared for them. Through these pages, you will discover an existence where you no longer view God’s best as a passing reality but as the place where you live. Experience God’s best for your life!

Book COVID 19 Technology and Marketing

Download or read book COVID 19 Technology and Marketing written by Vanessa Ratten and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-10 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses how Covid-19 has damaged businesses and how businesses can adapt to the new normal. In doing so, the book contributes to theories associated with the marketing management, by assessing opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of technology and marketing management during and post Covid-19. Although there is increasing research in consumer or business management acceptance of new technologies and digital marketing, the impact of these on marketing management during the Covid-19 are not adequately investigated, leading to overstated hypothetical predictions of its future potential. Chapters in the book therefore focus on new economic models such as sharing economy and business structures such as omnichannel, where advancements have enabled firms to build a one-on-one relationship with customers by collecting, storing, aggregating and analysing customer information across various touchpoints. Contributions in the book also focus on new technologies such as blockchain, automation solution, information technology management, and customer relationship management (CRM) in highlighting connections between these new technologies and marketing management. The book will be useful for anyone aiming to gain a better understanding of the current and future technologies that may play a role or have a robust impact on marketing management during Covid-19.
