Book The New Descriptive Geography of Palestine Vol 1 of 3

Download or read book The New Descriptive Geography of Palestine Vol 1 of 3 written by Henry Stafford Osborn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Descriptive Geography of Palestine, Vol. 1 of 3 It will be necessary, to a ready use of this manual, to remember: 1. That all the biblical geographic names in this list are to be found in the recently published map of Palestine and part of Syria, edited by Drs. Osborn and Coleman, and all sites are designated about which any thing certainly is known. Those about which nothing is known, are entirely omitted. So that if a name does not occur in this list, the reader may take it for granted that the site of the place is not known, or has not been announced at the date of this edition. 2. All the names which are printed on the map in square black letters are to be found in that exact spelling in the latest and approved editions of the Bible, and the size of the type or of the mark used to represent the place, generally, indicates its importance either anciently or at present. 3. The shaded outline letters give the names of places which were important during the Crusades or the early Roman Empire, or in history other than that of Scripture. 4. Script letters are the present Arabic names which often help to locate the Scriptural places. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Dialect Geography of Syria Palestine 1000 586 B C E

Download or read book Dialect Geography of Syria Palestine 1000 586 B C E written by W. Randall Garr and published by Eisenbrauns. This book was released on 2004 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Garr's classic study on dialect geography of the Levant was the first book-length attempt to follow in the steps of Zellig Harris, The Development of the Canaanite Dialects in 45 years. This Eisenbrauns' reprint makes the book (out of print for several years) available once again to students of the Canaanite languages. The book opens with an introduction that gives the methodology used, a survey of past studies, the corpus of texts used in the study, and Garr's goals. The next three chapters provide a comprehensive list of phonological, morphological, and syntactical features, which are then gathered into a comprehensive table and analyzed for their relevance to dialectical classification. Conclusions and a rich bibliography follow, as well as indexes of subject, texts cited, and words. "

Download or read book The Comparative Geography of Palestine and the Sinaitic Peninsula Classic Reprint written by Carl Ritter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-05 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Comparative Geography of Palestine and the Sinaitic Peninsula Having adopted the plan of condensation indicated above, and having rejected the more obvious one of uniform com pression, the task simplified itself at once. The district in which the student of the Bible is mainly interested is that lying between Dan and Beersheba - Palestine proper. With this may be coupled the Sinai Peninsula, the scene where Hebrew nationality first took on form, and where a wandering horde was subjected to a permanent polity. It is plain that Egypt, the territory east of the Jordan, and even the great cities of the north, are Bible lands merely in a secondary sense.
