Book The Light on the Tracks

Download or read book The Light on the Tracks written by Greg S. Sykes and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the days leading up to World War II, young Sam McCord searches for an escape from the world crumbling around him through the pursuit of a local legend, the Light on the Tracks. The Light appears every fall around Halloween and dances and shimmer on the railroad tracks south of town . . . beckoning, shifting, hinting. Some say it's a ghost; others say it's an angel. Some claim they have heard it whisper words to them as they rode past on the midnight train; others claim it has reached for them as if it had human hands. They felt its shimmering heat caress their skin, but was it a gesture of affection or hunger? The legend grows as the sightings continue, and Sam is enraptured by his pursuit of the legend. It's his escape from a life gone awry. His father was once the most respected, most influential man in town as he preached from the pulpit in the little, one-room church, but a deadly illness swept Sam's mother from this life and stole his father's sight, and the people of Black Mountain claim the blindness is God's judgment, the reckoning of the Almighty for some secret sin the McCord's were hiding. Of course, life didn't get any easier when his father adopted Sam's older brother Simon, named after the man that bore Jesus' cross to Golgotha. Simon has his own cross to bear -- he's the adopted son of the town's outcast -- but more importantly, he's black . . . in a city of white Southerners. The Ku Klux Klan has been active in the last few months, and Simon's name continually makes the circuits of the town rumor mill. The Klan is coming for him. The question isn't if . . . it's when.

Book Other Side of the Tracks

Download or read book Other Side of the Tracks written by Charity Alyse and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “stirring…emotionally raw” (Publishers Weekly) young adult debut novel about three teens entangled by secret love, open hatred, and the invisible societal constraints wrapped around people both Black and white is perfect for readers of All American Boys and The Hate U Give. There is an unspoken agreement between the racially divided towns of Bayside and Hamilton: no one steps over the train tracks that divide them. Or else. Not until Zach Whitman anyway, a white boy who moves in from Philly and who dreams of music. When he follows his dream across the tracks to meet his idol, the famous jazz musician who owns The Sunlight Record Shop in Hamilton, he’s flung into Capri Collins’s path. Capri has big plans: she wants to follow her late mother’s famous footsteps, dancing her way onto Broadway, and leaving this town for good, just like her older brother, Justin, is planning to do when he goes off to college next year. As sparks fly, Zach and Capri realize that they can help each other turn hope into a reality, even if it means crossing the tracks to do it. But one tragic night changes everything. When Justin’s friend, the star of Hamilton’s football team, is murdered by a white Bayside police officer, the long-standing feud between Bayside and Hamilton becomes an all-out war. And Capri, Justin, and Zach are right in the middle of it.

Book Track Data Oriented Maintenance Intervention Limit Determination for Ballasted Light Rail Tracks through Multibody Simulations

Download or read book Track Data Oriented Maintenance Intervention Limit Determination for Ballasted Light Rail Tracks through Multibody Simulations written by David Camacho Alcocer and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light rail trains (LRT) are an important part of public transport but due to perceived high life-cycle costs are not always considered suitable. Life cycle cost reduction might be achieved through a knowledge-based maintenance management rather than just on experience. This work develops limits of maintenance and renewal of LRT systems based on vehicle reactions to the current track quality through measured data, multibody simulations and track geometry indices. An approach based on knowledge would lead to a track condition which allows a safe, comfortable, and under an appropriate maintenance strategy, economically profitable operation.

Book Electric Light Orchestra on Track

Download or read book Electric Light Orchestra on Track written by Barry Delve and published by Sonicbond Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first Electric Light Orchestra album. The ELO story is one of continued success for over 50 years. From inauspicious beginnings in 1971, where live audiences barely reached double figures, ELO would become one of the most popular bands in the world by the end of the decade, thanks largely to the songwriting and production talents of Jeff Lynne. There were hits such as ‘Evil Woman’, ‘Mr. Blue Sky and ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’; multi-platinum albums like Out Of The Blue and Discovery, and, of course, their spectacular stage shows. Although ELO finally called it a day in 1986, they re-emerged in 2014 as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, playing a triumphant comeback concert at London’s Hyde Park. Since then, they haven’t looked back, releasing further albums to critical and public acclaim, culminating in ELO’s biggest ever live show at Wembley Stadium and 2019’s chart topping album, From Out Of Nowhere. As well as examining all of ELO’s recorded catalogue, the author has spoken to many people who have been involved with the band over the decades, uncovering along the way previously unseen photographs and new information about the group and their recordings, making this one of the most comprehensive guides to ELO ever published. Barry Delve is an author and artist. He is acknowledged as the foremost ELO expert in the Chilterns, if not the whole of South Buckinghamshire. He is married and has managed to hold down a job as a graphic designer for most of his working life. He lives in Buckinghamshire, UK.

Book Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks Vol 2

Download or read book Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks Vol 2 written by Maksym Spiryagin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 1360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium on Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks is the leading international gathering of scientists and engineers from academia and industry in the field of ground vehicle dynamics to present and exchange their latest innovations and breakthroughs. Established in Vienna in 1977, the International Association of Vehicle System Dynamics (IAVSD) has since held its biennial symposia throughout Europe and in the USA, Canada, Japan, South Africa and China. The main objectives of IAVSD are to promote the development of the science of vehicle dynamics and to encourage engineering applications of this field of science, to inform scientists and engineers on the current state-of-the-art in the field of vehicle dynamics and to broaden contacts among persons and organisations of the various countries engaged in scientific research and development in the field of vehicle dynamics and related areas. IAVSD 2017, the 25th Symposium of the International Association of Vehicle System Dynamics was hosted by the Centre for Railway Engineering at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia in August 2017. The symposium focused on the following topics related to road and rail vehicles and trains: dynamics and stability; vibration and comfort; suspension; steering; traction and braking; active safety systems; advanced driver assistance systems; autonomous road and rail vehicles; adhesion and friction; wheel-rail contact; tyre-road interaction; aerodynamics and crosswind; pantograph-catenary dynamics; modelling and simulation; driver-vehicle interaction; field and laboratory testing; vehicle control and mechatronics; performance and optimization; instrumentation and condition monitoring; and environmental considerations. Providing a comprehensive review of the latest innovative developments and practical applications in road and rail vehicle dynamics, the 213 papers now published in these proceedings will contribute greatly to a better understanding of related problems and will serve as a reference for researchers and engineers active in this specialised field. Volume 2 contains 135 papers under the subject heading Rail.
