Book Harrington The Commonwealth of Oceana and A System of Politics

Download or read book Harrington The Commonwealth of Oceana and A System of Politics written by James Harrington and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-08-20 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Harrington's brief career as a political and historical theorist spans the last years of the Cromwellian Protectorate and the Restoration of 1660. This volume comprises the first and last of Harrington's writings. Harrington was the first theorist to interpret the English Civil Wars as a revolution, the result of a long-term process of social change which led to the decay of the old political order. The Commonwealth of Oceana (1656) is a fictionalised presentation of English history up to the victory of the New Model Army, explaining the fall of the monarchy and proposing a republic to replace it. A System of Politics, written after the Restoration, is a scheme of history and political philosophy erected on the foundations of his previous works. Professor Pocock's introduction emphasises Harrington's place as a pivotal figure in the history of English political thought. This edition also contains a chronology of events in Harrington's life and a guide to further reading.

Download or read book Oceana written by Ted Danson and published by Rodale Books. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people know Ted Danson as the affable bartender Sam Malone in the long-running television series Cheers. But fewer realize that over the course of the past two and a half decades, Danson has tirelessly devoted himself to the cause of heading off a looming global catastrophe—the massive destruction of our planet's oceanic biosystems and the complete collapse of the world's major commercial fisheries. In Oceana, Danson details his journey from joining a modest local protest in the mid-1980s to oppose offshore oil drilling near his Southern California neighborhood to his current status as one of the world's most influential oceanic environmental activists, testifying before congressional committees in Washington, D.C.; addressing the World Trade Organization in Zurich, Switzerland; and helping found Oceana, the largest organization in the world focused solely on ocean conservation. In his incisive, conversational voice, Danson describes what has happened to our oceans in just the past half-century, ranging from the ravages of overfishing and habitat destruction to the devastating effects of ocean acidification and the wasteful horrors of fish farms. Danson also shares the stage of Oceana with some of the world's most respected authorities in the fields of marine science, commercial fishing, and environmental law, as well as with other influential activists. Combining vivid, personal prose with an array of stunning graphics, charts, and photographs, Ocean powerfully illustrates the impending crises and offers solutions that may allow us to avert them, showing you the specific courses of action you can take to become active, responsible stewards of our planet's most precious resource—its oceans.

Book The Education of Innocence

Download or read book The Education of Innocence written by SOPHIA and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authors Note By looking into The Book of Life, Humanitys Soul Records, Sophia witnessed that Souls began their sacred journey in a fall from grace that shattered their innocence and caused a splintering of the personality. In four simple words, Sophia came to understand the Souls raison dtre for existence--it is for The Education of Innocence. That secret has been well hidden within great Mysteries coveted by ancients in the sacred Temples of old. But why was that secret hidden? What does that secret reveal about the true essence of our nature? Once that true essence is known, how could that awareness bring knowledge that could change our lives? In essence, what does innocence have to do with Divine power? The Education of Innocence portrays the archetypal story that rings true for every incarnated Soul. The stages of a Souls sacred journey are metaphorically portrayed, revealing the fall that had devastating consequences upon humanitys collective psyche, and what now compels an awakening in global consciousness critical for survival. When innocence became shattered, a shadow rose in place of light. Without understanding the shadow, one can never transcend illusions. Without transcending illusions, the admonition (deliberate use) in the bible, Ye are Gods, can never be known again. The Master awaits. Book II opens in the Underworld of Darkness where a Dark Lord is reminiscing about events that shaped his brutal character, accountable for his splintered Soul. Striving to fulfill the Black Oracle to claim dominion over the Empire of Darkness, he must overcome impossible odds. Little Sol awakens to his destiny, with Initiations of remembrance guided by the Wizard Domaine. A whole host of sea creatures portraying Shadow and Light clash during the Apocalyptic times of The Final Reckoning. With the outcome unknown, the Immortals of the Original Ancestry of the Gods must come into remembrance if the Kingdom of Oceana is to be rescued from its terrifying fate.
