Book The Journey Lost and Confused

Download or read book The Journey Lost and Confused written by James Lagoski and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2004-12-19 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Journey began a little more than 15 years ago. I was facing confusion of what this life was about and needed some answers. My best friend who I had known for 21 years, committed suicide on November 18,1993. His death triggered emotions in me that needed somewhere to escape. I began to do that through writing poetry and lyrics. At first it seemed like an outlet but then it became an obsession. I was beginning to feel like I was hearing and seeing things in my mind. This book contains some of the first 100 poems I ever wrote. I've left them written in their raw and simple original form for the most part as a reminder of feeling the power that was behind some of these words. Welcome to the beginnings of The Journey

Book The Spiritual Journey of a Confused Man

Download or read book The Spiritual Journey of a Confused Man written by Lance Dickson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 1 Corinthians 14:33 Yet sometimes we may find ourselves in a confused state of mind not knowing where to turn or what to do. This was the state I found myself when I started writing and reading my journal. I found that in addition to reading the bible, reading my journal brought peace to my heart and direction to my life. This is not a substitute to reading the bible! It was a means of reinforcing the truths that I already read in the bible. I invite any military man on deployment to read this journal, any father separated from his children, and any man or woman who feels they may have lost their way. I believe God will speak to your spirit as he spoke to mine and led me through some of the toughest situations and circumstances that I have encountered in my life. I pray that you come to know God through his word and his still soft voice as you take this journey. God Bless!

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1985, Order From Confusion Sprung brings together some of Claude Rawson's more important essays and articles on eighteenth-century subjects, most belong to the last decade or so, but a few earlier pieces have also been included. Swift, Pope and Fielding are extensively treated, and there are discussions of Johnson, Boswell, Cowper, as well as some authors of the so-called Sentimental School. The volume also contains reappraisals of the concepts underlying such terms as 'neo-classic' and 'Augustan' in their application to eighteenth-century literature, and comments forthrightly on prevailing trends in the academic study of the subject in the last two decades.

  • Author : Frederick J. Ruf

Download or read book Bewildered Travel written by Frederick J. Ruf and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2012-10-05 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do we travel? Ostensibly an act of leisure, travel finds us thrusting ourselves into jets flying miles above the earth, only to endure dislocations of time and space, foods and languages foreign to our body and mind, and encounters with strangers on whom we must suddenly depend. Travel is not merely a break from routine; it is its antithesis, a voluntary trading in of the security one feels at home for unpredictability and confusion. In Bewildered Travel Frederick Ruf argues that this confusion, which we might think of simply as a necessary evil, is in fact the very thing we are seeking when we leave home. Ruf relates this quest for confusion to our religious behavior. Citing William James, who defined the religious as what enables us to "front life," Ruf contends that the search for bewilderment allows us to point our craft into the wind and sail headlong into the storm rather than flee from it. This view challenges the Eliadean tradition that stresses religious ritual as a shield against the world’s chaos. Ruf sees our departures from the familiar as a crucial component in a spiritual life, reminding us of the central role of pilgrimage in religion. In addition to his own revealing experiences as a traveler, Ruf presents the reader with the journeys of a large and diverse assortment of notable Americans, including Henry Miller, Paul Bowles, Mark Twain, Mary Oliver, and Walt Whitman. These accounts take us from the Middle East to the Philippines, India to Nicaragua, Mexico to Morocco--and, in one threatening instance, simply to the edge of the author’s own neighborhood. "What gives value to travel is fear," wrote Camus. This book illustrates the truth of that statement.

Book Celebrating Confusion

Download or read book Celebrating Confusion written by Kenneth Nally and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-14 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though widely lauded as one of the most creative and challenging forces in Irish theatre Frank McGuinness’s plays have often met with a tempestuous reception. This new work details the significance of key productions of his plays in the context of Ireland’s culture and society. Charting McGuinness’s development as a dramatist from The Factory Girls through to Gates of Gold it combines cultural, political and theatrical analysis to position McGuinness as the most significant Irish playwright of his generation. Textual analysis supports considerations of theatrical performance to show how visual art, stagecraft, sculpture and song are central to our understanding of McGuinness’s theatre. Drawing forth the range of sexual, familial and national identities found in McGuinness’s work this book shows the significance of symbols in theatre that often seeks to confuse the simplicities of absolutes in order to show the complexities of difference. Wide-ranging, theoretically astute and written in a lucid and engaging style, Celebrating Confusion will appeal to all readers who are interested in Irish Theatre and its intersection with the politics and culture of contemporary Ireland.

Book Buzz Aldrin What Happened to You in All the Confusion

Download or read book Buzz Aldrin What Happened to You in All the Confusion written by Johan Harstad and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2011-06-07 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Kirkus Reviews Best Fiction Title of 2011 In Buzz Aldrin, What Happened to You in All the Confusion?, readers follow a man who wishes not to be followed, a man who, after a series of personal and professional disasters, finds himself lying on a rain-soaked road in the desolate, treeless Faroe Islands, population only a few thousand, a wad of bills in his pocket and no memory of how he had come to be there. From there, Brage Award-winning author and playwright Johan Harstad's debut novel--previously published to great success in eleven countries with its first English-language appearance in June 2011--tells the story of Mattias, a thirty-something gardener living in Stavanger, Norway, whose idol is Buzz Aldrin, second man on the moon: the man who was willing to stand in Neil Armstrong's shadow in order to work, diligently and humbly, for the success of the Apollo 11 mission. Through Harstad's "delectably light but nonetheless impactful prose . . . [t]he novel's finest moments wrap you up in communion with Mattias, as if you are spending a quiet afternoon with an old friend, chatting but mostly thinking" (Three Percent). Surrounded by a vivid and memorable cast of characters--aspiring pop musicians, Caribbean-obsessed psychologists, death-haunted photographers, girls who dream of anonymous men falling in love with them on bus trips, and even Buzz Aldrin himself--"Harstad combines formal play and linguistic ferocity with a searing emotional directness" (Dedi Felman, Words Without Borders) to bring Mattias to the realization that he cannot always blend into the background.

Book Revelation Without Confusion

Download or read book Revelation Without Confusion written by Jana Abercrombie-Abbott and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation has long been the black sheep of Biblical content. The imagery is far-fetched, the wording foreign and unclear, the message harsh. Nonetheless, as the final and culminating book of Scripture, it is of such enormous value that blessings have been promised to the one who simply concedes to having it read aloud to them. There is depth and beauty and a sweet message of hope here. There is warning and danger and a sad revealing of rebellion as well. There is understanding for both our own days as well as those to come. All this is not hidden or veiled from the everyday believer; with a calm and expectant countenance, we can find simplicity amid the imagery, clarity among the symbols, and direction abounding in the scenes. Revelation Without Confusion is intended to be as clear as it is promoted to be. A simplified, yet deep look at the impactful, urgent, and God-inspired Word meant to be read, known, cherished, and understood by one and all. Written in a narrative manner, the reading is as simplistic as the explanations within.
