Book excerpt: The History of Creation is a book by German scientist Ernst Haeckel, which deals with issues of creation and evolution under influence of Charles Darwin. The book did a great deal to further explain "Darwinism" and widens the theory to the world. Haeckel argued that human evolution consisted of precisely 22 phases, the 21st – the "missing link" – being a halfway step between apes and humans. He even formally named this missing link Pithecanthropus alalus, translated as "ape man without speech"

Book The History of Creation

Download or read book The History of Creation written by Ernst Haeckel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1899, The History of Creation was the first book of its kind to apply a doctrine to the whole range of organic morphology and make use of the effect Darwin had on biological sciences during the 19th century. Haeckel looks at Darwin’s reform of Descent Theory and its establishment through the doctrine of selection. He introduces Descent Theory into the systematic classification of animals and plants and finds a "natural system" on the basis of genealogy - that is, to construct hypothetical pedigrees for the various species of organisms. The book will be of interest to those studying natural history and the origins of modern scientific thought, it will appeal to researchers both in the natural sciences and in history.

About Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel, the Author: It was agreed by all European evolutionists that all vertebrates looked very similar at an early stage, in what was thought of as a common ideal type, but there was a continuing debate from the 1820s between the Romantic recapitulation theory that human embryos developed through stages of the forms of all the major groups of adult animals, literally manifesting a sequence of organisms on a linear chain of being, and Karl Ernst von Baer's opposing view that the early general forms diverged into four major groups of specialised forms without ever resembling the adult of another species,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The History of Creation, Vol. 2 of 2: Or the Development of the Earth and Its Inhabitants by the Action of Natural Causes This genealogical conception of the organic system doubt less belongs to futurity alone. But with it as our basis we may now turn our attention to one of the most essential, but also one of the most difficult, tasks of the non miraculous history of creation, namely, to the actual con struction of the Organic Pedigree. Let us see how far we are already able to point out all the different organic forms as the divergent descendants of a single or of some few common original forms. But how can we construct the actual pedigree of the animal and vegetable group of forms from our knowledge Of them, at present so scanty and fragmentary? The answer to this question lies in what we have already remarked of the parallelism of the three series of development - in the important causal relation which connects the palaeontological development of all organic tribes with the embryological development of indi viduals, and with the systematic development of groups.
