Book excerpt: The war was over, but Captain Geordie Venables was not leaving Spain just yet-not until he discovered the truth behind his commanding officer's death. Colonel Merryfield didn't deserve the cloud that was hanging over his good name, and Geordie has finally unearthed a promising lead-a gypsy troop, traveling by stealth along the River Tagus. With any luck, he can bribe them for some answers, and unravel the web of deception that seems to have led to the Colonel's death. It looked to be no easy task, though; he was fast running out of money, and everyone kept stealing his horse. . .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is about classic Italian food which somehow in Australia overlooked years ago. When the Italian came to Australia, they had to alter the receipt and the names to satisfy the Aussies’ plate. For instance - Napolitana sauce which is really called ‘Pomadoro’ with garlic and basil. The same with Bolognese sauce, minced meat sauce which is really called ‘Ragu’. There were a lot of very fatty cream dishes but the Aussies loved it. There were used to be grilled meat or fried and menu with three boiled veggies on pasta which I remember working in Gunnedah - out back Australia. They didn’t know what was pasta and called it noodle. And calamari, I remember distinctly this lady said is a fish or some sort. I laughed. Somehow I knew there was better Italian food than what I was taught in Australia so I made this trip to Italy to learn and live amongst the Italian. Well, I was right. The food is seasonal fresh and every town had their saga way of cooking. You can go 80 kilometres to another town and it’s different again. So, I selected one or two dishes of each regent of Italy and brought that back to Australia which the younger Australians embraced and appreciated. Enjoy my friends! Thank you for your love and support!

Download or read book The Gypsy Crown The Chain of Charms 1 written by Kate Forsyth and published by Pan Australia. This book was released on 2007-11-10 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once there was a gypsy queen who wore on her wrist a chain of six lucky charms – a golden crown, a silver horse, a butterfly caught in amber, a cat's eye shell, a bolt of lightning forged from the heart of a falling star, and the flower of the rue plant, herb of grace. The queen gave each of her six children one of the charms as their lucky talisman, but ever since the chain of charms was broken, the gypsies had been dogged with misfortune. It is even worse for the Finch tribe – they have been thrown into gaol with only three weeks to live. The only members of the family to escape are thirteen-year-old Emilia and her cousin Luka, who have been entrusted to find the six charms and bring them together again. What Emilia and Luka do not realise is that there is a price to be paid for each lucky charm, and that the cost may prove too high... Book 1: The Gypsy Crown: 9th August – 12th August 1658 Maggie has given them the first charm – an old gold coin – but Luka and Emilia must escape the brutal thief-taker, Coldham. With a horse, a monkey, a dog, and a huge brown bear in their train, it is hard to travel secretly as they flee across the Surrey countryside. With a little bit of luck – or, as Emilia believes, magic – they manage to escape, but Coldham will not give up so easily.

Book excerpt: "The night grows wondrous dark; deep-swelling gusts And sultry stillness take the rule by turn, While o'er our heads the black and heavy clouds Roll slowly on. This surely bodes a storm." -Baillie. Overhead, the storm-clouds were scudding wildly across the sky, until all above was one dense pall of impenetrable gloom. A chill, penetrating rain was falling, and the wind came sweeping in long, fitful gusts-piercingly cold; for it was a night in March. It was the north road to London. A thick, yellow fog, that had been rising all day from the bosom of the Thames, wrapped the great city in a blackness that might almost be felt; and its innumerable lights were shrouded in the deep gloom. Yet the solitary figure, flitting through the pelting rain and bleak wind, strained her eyes as she fled along, as though, despite the more than Egyptian darkness, she would force, by her fierce, steady glare, the obscure lights of the city to show themselves.
