Book The Government of God Complete and Unabridged with an Index

Download or read book The Government of God Complete and Unabridged with an Index written by John Taylor and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-10-21 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "There are two kinds of rule on the earth... [and] there is a very striking difference between the two, and the comparison is certainly not creditable to man... In God's government there is perfect order, harmony, beauty, magnificence, and grandeur; in the government of man, confusion, disorder, instability, misery, discord, and death. In the first, the most consummate wisdom and power are manifested; in the second, ignorance, imbecility, and weakness. The first displays the comprehension, light, glory, benificence, and intelligence of God; the second, the folly, littleness, darkness, and incompetency of man. The contemplation of the first elevates the mind, expands the capacity, produces grateful reflections, and fills the mind with wonder, admiration, and enlivening hopes; the contemplation of the second produces doubt, distrust, and uncertainty, and fills the mind with gloomy apprehensions. In a word, the one is the work of God, and the other that of man." - JOHN TAYLOR - A complete and unabridged edition of President John Taylor's work "The Government of God." A re-typeset edition of the First Edition, with the original page numbers added to the text in [ ]. Comes with an Index made specifically for this edition.

Book Politics According to the Bible

Download or read book Politics According to the Bible written by Wayne A. Grudem and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should Christians be involved in political issues? This comprehensive and readable book presents a political philosophy from the perspective that the Gospel pertains to all of life, including politics. Politics—According to the Bible is an in-depth analysis of conservative and liberal plans to do good for the nation, evaluated in light of the Bible and common sense. Evangelical Bible professor, and author of the bestselling book Systematic Theology, Wayne Grudem unpacks and rejects five common views about Christian influence on politics: "compel religion," "exclude religion," "all government is demonic," "do evangelism, not politics," and "do politics, not evangelism." Instead, he defends a position of "significant Christian influence on government" and explains the Bible's teachings about the purpose of civil government and the characteristics of good or bad governments. Grudem provides a thoughtful analysis of over fifty specific and current political issues dealing with: The protection of life. Marriage, the family, and children. Economic issues and taxation. The environment. National defense Relationships to other nations. Freedom of speech and religion. Quotas. And special interests. Throughout this book, he makes frequent application to the current policies of the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States, but the principles discussed here are relevant for any nation.

Book The Government of God Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Government of God It was Elder Taylor's intention to superintend the publishing of "The Government of God" in person, previous to his departure for Great Salt Lake City last spring; but the numerous cares attending the French and German Missions, of which he was President; the translation of the Book of Mormon into the French and German languages; the establishment of L'Etiole du Deseret at Paris, and Zions Panier at Hamburg; together with a multitude of other business connected with the welfare of the Kingdom of God, rendered it impossible. The manuscript was therefore handed to me by Elder Taylor, with a request to superintend the printing of the work, which I have done to the best of my ability. Considering the disadvantages arising from the Author's absence during the reading of the proofs, I believe it is as correctly rendered as was possible from a manuscript copy. The Work is now before the Public, and from one portion at least it will meet with a cordial reception, treating as it does upon the theme most dear to their hearts - the Reign of Righteousness and Peace. Book Mediation and Atonement Deseret Alphabet Edition

Download or read book Mediation and Atonement Deseret Alphabet Edition written by John Taylor and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Taylor (1808-1887) was an English religious leader who served as the third president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1880 to 1887. He is the only president of the LDS Church to have been born outside of the United States. Taylor was converted by Parley P. Pratt on a mission to Toronto in 1836 and became an Apostle two years later. He spent much of his presidency evading arrest on charges of "unlawful cohabitation" and died while still in hiding. Mediation and Atonement (1882) is one of the few works of theology written by a sitting President of the LDS Church. It serves as Taylor's of the preeminent role of the Son of God in the salvation of humankind; in it, he assembles scriptural passages pertaining to Christ's Atonement and offers a commentary on their meaning. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).

Book The Sovereignty of God

Download or read book The Sovereignty of God written by Arthur Pink and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sovereignty of God is a religion classic by English Bible teacher Arthur Pink who articulates and relates the Biblical truths of God's absolute Sovereignty with the main goal to exalt God solely from the pages of Scripture. Pink attempts to draw closer the tension between the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man, an eternal question that remains debated even though it's seemingly plainly taught in the Scripture. The author's focus is on the divine side of the issue, defining God's sovereignty and presenting the different spheres that it works and operates. Further on he turns to the tension between the sovereignty of God and human will and responsibility.

Book excerpt: A Transforming Knowledge of the Living God The timeless appeal of this classic book, written by a preacher with a worldwide ministry during the first half of the twentieth century, demonstrates the deep hunger for a saving knowledge of God present in each generation. Arthur Pink sought to give readers not just a theoretical knowledge of God but pointed them toward a personal relationship of yielding to him and living according to his biblical precepts. Pink's book explores attributes such as God's decrees, foreknowledge, sovereignty, holiness, grace, and mercy, among many others, all packaged in a style especially useful for pastors, teachers, and Bible students. Our God who is above all names cannot be found through human searching alone, Pink teaches, but can be known only as he is revealed by the Holy Spirit through his living Word.

Book excerpt: The beloved debut novel about an affluent Indian family forever changed by one fateful day in 1969, from the author of The Ministry of Utmost Happiness NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • MAN BOOKER PRIZE WINNER Compared favorably to the works of Faulkner and Dickens, Arundhati Roy’s modern classic is equal parts powerful family saga, forbidden love story, and piercing political drama. The seven-year-old twins Estha and Rahel see their world shaken irrevocably by the arrival of their beautiful young cousin, Sophie. It is an event that will lead to an illicit liaison and tragedies accidental and intentional, exposing “big things [that] lurk unsaid” in a country drifting dangerously toward unrest. Lush, lyrical, and unnerving, The God of Small Things is an award-winning landmark that started for its author an esteemed career of fiction and political commentary that continues unabated.
