Book The Goose That Couldn t Fly

Download or read book The Goose That Couldn t Fly written by Janice Bomar Crutcher and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-05-18 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Janice Bomar Crutcher. I have been feeding Mac and Gracie over 2 years. Sometimes twice a day. They know their names. I call them to come and feed. I was inspired to write this when I discovered that Mac had one bad wing and could not fly. I was his only source of food. So many days I felt so sad because he was so lonely. It just broke my heart, especially the way the other geese treated him for being different. Then one day Gracie appeared. They were bullied by the other Canadian geese because they were different. I want to produce a children’s book to explain about bullying. With this being a big problem with our children today. To let them know it is ok to be different and not let anyone bully them. They are not alone. It is in our society today and to show them it happens in the animal species also. I have never done anything like this before. I went to the library and researched layouts of children’s books. There was one layout I liked. It had the writing on the right pages and the left pages were the illustrations. So much to learn about writing a book. I just want to relay the message about bullying. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Janice Bomar Crutcher * Main email: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Cell: (731) 336-4494

Book excerpt: “Papa Goose is destined to become a classic. This book has everything in it I love: great animals beautifully portrayed as individuals; cool science; drama, discovery, and personal transformation.” —Sy Montgomery, author of Birdology and The Soul of An Octopus The charming true story of one man’s journey to raise seven goslings in the name of science. In Papa Goose, Michael Quetting shares the hilarious and moving true story of how he became a father to seven rambunctious goslings—and the surprising things he learned along the way. Starting right at the beginning, with the eggs, his journey takes him from the incubator all the way to the airstrip, where he must attempt to teach the geese to fly as part of an ambitious scientific research initiative for the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, which tracks animal migrations around the world. For the next eleven months, we follow the newly minted dad as he takes the goslings on daily swims in the lake, tracks them down when they go astray, and watches their personalities develop: feisty, churlish, and lovable. Packed with charm and humor, Papa Goose quickly draws us into the adventure as Gloria, Nemo, and the rest of the crew conquer land, water, and air.

But this spring something is different: an injured goose stands on one leg – alone. Shunned by the other geese, she is unable to search for food, swim, or fly away. A young girl watches and wonders how a goose with one foot can survive. She wants to feed her, take care of her, be her friend. But her mother warns that “a wild goose has to learn to live with her weakness. Or she won’t live at all.” It takes patience and courage for both goose and girl to let nature take its course. Told from a child’s point of view, and based on a true story, this simple, telling, and triumphant picture book is wonderfully illustrated in the bold paper-collage art of Holly Meade.

Book Fly By Night

Download or read book Fly By Night written by Frances Hardinge and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The award-winning author of The Lie Tree “has created a distinctly imaginative world full of engaging characters, robust humor, and true suspense” (School Library Journal, starred review). Everybody knew that books were dangerous. Read the wrong book, it was said, and the words crawled around your brain on black legs and drove you mad, wicked mad. Mosca Mye’s father insisted on teaching her to read—even in a world where books are dangerous, regulated things. Eight years later, Quillam Mye died, leaving behind an orphaned daughter with an inauspicious name and an all-consuming hunger for words. Trapped for years in the care of her cruel uncle and aunt, Mosca leaps at the opportunity for escape, though it comes in the form of sneaky swindler Eponymous Clent. As she travels the land with Clent and her pet goose, Mosca begins to discover complicated truths about the world she inhabits and the power of words. “Intricate plotting, well-developed and fascinating characters, delicious humor, and exquisite wordcraft envelop readers fully into this richly imagined world.” ?The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books (starred review) “Hardinge’s stylish way with prose gives her sprawling debut fantasy a literate yet often silly tone that calls to mind Monty Python.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “Mosca’s ferocity and authentic inner turmoil [are] both reminiscent of Philip Pullman’s Lyra Belacqua.” ?Booklist “Incredibly well written.” ?The Seattle Times
