Book The Good the Bad and the Itar

Download or read book The Good the Bad and the Itar written by Glenn Ishikawa and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is purposefully void of any actual export regulations. The book simply aims to provide export control awareness and helpful tips across the board for any company and any person in the aerospace and defense industry to mitigate chances of export violations. This simple and fun read, which uses occasional pop culture references to drive home a point, will attempt to not only explain not only why export controls exist but also ingrain the philosophy of ITAR controls in everyone’s mindset for it to be a seamless part of your work landscape. It provides a macro view on those sensitive and possibly exposed areas for you to reevaluate and better protect your technologies and hardware from unauthorized access. This book is not an internal control plan for your company but may provide ideas to help identify and turn over some compliance stones previously left unturned. The goal is to increase export intelligence to all employees of a company manufacturing export-controlled commodities and to prevent that dreaded and soul-sucking export violation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is a contribution to the study of the identification problem: the problem of identifying an item from a known class us ing positive and negative examples. This problem is considered to be an important component of the process of inductive learning, and as such has been studied extensively. In the overview we shall explain the objectives of this work and its place in the overall fabric of learning research. Context. Learning occurs in many forms; the only form we are treat ing here is inductive learning, roughly characterized as the process of forming general concepts from specific examples. Computer Science has found three basic approaches to this problem: • Select a specific learning task, possibly part of a larger task, and construct a computer program to solve that task . • Study cognitive models of learning in humans and extrapolate from them general principles to explain learning behavior. Then construct machine programs to test and illustrate these models. xi Xll PREFACE • Formulate a mathematical theory to capture key features of the induction process. This work belongs to the third category. The various studies of learning utilize training examples (data) in different ways. The three principal ones are: • Similarity-based (or empirical) learning, in which a collection of examples is used to select an explanation from a class of possible rules.

Book State Owned Enterprises in Emerging Europe The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Download or read book State Owned Enterprises in Emerging Europe The Good the Bad and the Ugly written by Uwe Böwer and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State-owned enterprises (SOEs) play an important role in Emerging Europe’s economies, notably in the energy and transport sectors. Based on a new firm-level dataset, this paper reviews the SOE landscape, assesses SOE performance across countries and vis-à-vis private firms, and evaluates recent SOE governance reform experience in 11 Emerging European countries, as well as Sweden as a benchmark. Profitability and efficiency of resource allocation of SOEs lag those of private firms in most sectors, with substantial cross-country variation. Poor SOE performance raises three main risks: large and risky contingent liabilities could stretch public finances; sizeable state ownership of banks coupled with poor governance could threaten financial stability; and negative productivity spillovers could affect the economy at large. SOE governance frameworks are partly weak and should be strengthened along three lines: fleshing out a consistent ownership policy; giving teeth to financial oversight; and making SOE boards more professional.

Book The Economics of the Good the Bad and the Ugly

Download or read book The Economics of the Good the Bad and the Ugly written by Manfred J. Holler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The highly praised Western, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, has been used in many game-theory courses over the years and has also found its way into leading journals of this field. Using the rich material offered by this movie, alongside other elements from popular culture, literature and history, this book furthers this exploration into a fascinating area of economics. In his series of Schumpeter lectures, Manfred J. Holler uses his analysis of Sergio Leone’s movie as a starting point to argue that combinations of desires, secrets and second-mover advantages trigger conflicts but also allow for conflict resolution. Many people and organizations have a desire for secrecy, and this is often motivated by a desire to create a second-mover advantage, and by undercutting the second-mover advantage of others. This book demonstrates that the interaction of these three ingredients account for a large share of social problems and failures in politics and business but, somewhat paradoxically, can also help to overcome some of the problems that result by applying one or two of them in isolation. This book has been written for curious readers who want to see the world from a different perspective and who like simple mathematics alongside story telling. Its accessible approach means that it will be of use to students and academics alike, especially all those interested in decision making, game theory, and market entry.

Book The Good The Bad and The Ugly Multiple Roles of Bacteria in Human Life

Download or read book The Good The Bad and The Ugly Multiple Roles of Bacteria in Human Life written by Tatiana Venkova and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bacteria are among the earliest forms of life on Earth. Notwithstanding their small size and primitive origin, bacteria still have a tremendous impact on everyday human life. Over the centuries, research into bacteria have provided and enriched the fundamental biological knowledge due to their readily measured processes and effects on higher organisms. Although molecular genetics and microbiology were among the scientific fields that have mostly benefited from the discoveries made in bacteria, our current state of knowledge has gone beyond what anyone could have ever imagined. The present Research Topic aims to cover new and exciting broad aspects of the importance of bacteria to human life, both positive and negative influences. Regulation of bacterial gene expression, replication and segregation control mechanisms, cell to cell communication via quorum sensors, and the relatively recent finding of bacterial immunity via CRISPR, have led to the development of many, and very important new tools in biotechnology and the emerging field of molecular medicine. The battle against infectious diseases has also benefited from the genetic approaches that have been developed in the quest for finding new targets and novel drugs against pathogenic bacteria. At the next level, the human microbiome project has opened up new avenues in understanding the role of bacteria in human health and wellbeing. Finally, the relationship between bacterial infections and human cancers will also be covered, a subject that is still under verification through rigorous experimental approaches. Special emphasis will be given to the bacterial accessory genome, i.e the mobilome, as the primary cause of health-threatening antimicrobial resistance and the production of toxins and virulence factors. Taking into account the evolutionary importance of horizontal gene transfer and the additional beneficial roles of certain bacterial mobile genetic elements, they help project best “the Good, the Bad and the Ugly” outline of this topic. At the time this eBook is about to be published, our Research Topic has registered nearly 55, 000 views.

Book Parasitism The Good The Bad and The Ugly

Download or read book Parasitism The Good The Bad and The Ugly written by Marco A. Juarez-Estrada and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parasitism is a tight association between species in which one organism, the parasite, lives on or inside the host, causing it harm, and is structurally adapted to this way of life. Until the twenty-first century, parasitism was studied by parasitologists, rather than ecologists or evolutionary biologists. Today, parasitism is a major element of evolutionary ecology, as nearly all free-living animals are hosts to at least one parasite species. Since it is in the parasite's evolutionary interest for its host to flourish, long-term coevolution can lead to a stable relationship bordering on mutualism. According to Lynn Margulis, when resources are scarce, natural selection, moves relationships from parasitism to mutualism, as it was brilliantly illustrated in Margulis' endosymbiosis theory, where eukaryotic mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from formerly free-living prokaryotes. Boundary between mutualism, symbiosis, and pathological parasitism is a thin red line that frequently overlapping without a theory enough clear to explain this thigh relationship between the parasite and its host.
