Book excerpt: The German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium to large sized breed of hunting dog that was developed during the 19th century in Germany. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Deutscher Kurzhaariger, ' the 'Vorstehhund, ' and the 'Kurzhaar.' The German Shorthaired Pointer is a descendant of the German Bird Dog and the Old Spanish Pointer. It is also believed that the breed has traces of hound and tracking dogs: such as the English Pointer and the Arkwright Pointer. The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed to be a versatile hunting breed and gun dog that is capable of hunting both on land and in the water. The breed has a streamlined build with powerful muscular legs that allow it to capable of running, swimming and changing direction rapidly. The German Shorthaired Pointer's powerful build also makes it capable of retrieving relatively heavy game. The German Shorthaired Pointer has a short, flat and dense undercoat which is protected by stiff guard hairs that make the breed's coat resistant to water, the cold and most other weathers. The breed's coat normally comes in the following colorations: dark brown, liver (colloquially called 'chocolate' or 'chestnut'), black, black roan, white, live roan, liver and white or black and white. The German Shorthaired Pointer normally has a solidly colored head and a speckled or 'ticked' body. It is also not uncommon for the German Shorthaired Pointer to have large patches of color known as 'saddles.' The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a German Shorthaired Pointer. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your German Shorthaired Pointer with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the German Shorthaired Pointer is a highly intelligent, bold affectionate, enthusiastic and willing to please breed. The German Shorthaired Pointer loves interacting with humans and spending time with their family units. It is important to note that as a sporting breed, the German Shorthaired Pointer has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the German Shorthaired Pointer has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Wirehaired Pointer is a breed of medium to large-sized dog that is a member of the griffon typing. As the name suggests the breed originates from Germany and was developed during the 19th century. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Deutsch Drahthaar, ' and the 'Vorstehhund' in Germany. The breed was developed for the purposes of being a rugged and versatile hunting dog that was capable of working closely with either a single hunter or a small party of hunters. The German Wirehaired Pointer was developed to be able to traverse varied terrain (from the mountainous regions of the Alps, to the dense forests present with Germany, to open fields and farms surrounding small farms) on foot. The people who developed the breed wanted the German Wirehaired Pointer to have a coat that was both easy to maintain but would also be able to protect the dog from heavy cover and cold weather. The German Wirehaired Pointer therefore has a weather resistant, water-repellent wiry and dense undercoat. The German Wirehaired Pointer also have a straight, wiry, harsh and flat lying overcoat that is about two inches in length. The German Wirehaired Pointer was developed for the main purpose of point and location upland game, being fearless while hunting 'sharp' game (such as foxes), being able to retrieve water fowl and land birds and be a devoted and trainable companion. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a German Wirehaired Pointer. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your German Wirehaired Pointer with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the German Wirehaired Pointer thrives on human companionship and is very affectionate, loyal and playful. It is important to note that as a working breed, the German Wirehaired Pointer has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the German Wirehaired Pointer has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. Book excerpt: The German Shepherd is a breed of medium to large-sized working dog that originates from Germany. The German spelling is 'Deutscher Schäferhund.' The German Shepherd is a relatively new breed of dog that came into existence in 1899 and was put to work as a sheep herder. However due to their physical strength and intelligence they have become a popular choice for all lines of work: disability assistance, search and rescue, police, acting and military. It is also a popular household pet and is the second most popular breed of dog in the United States! German Shepherds come in two coat varieties: short-medium and long. Book excerpt: Although first and foremost a versatile, multi-talented hunting dog, the German Shorthaired Pointer is an equally delightful companion dog beloved for his sweet temperament, superb trainability, and good looks. Those dark brown eyes and chestnut-colored easy-to-care-for coat makes this sporting dog a desirable choice for the family who has the time and inclination to indulge this super dog's boundless energy and drive. Author Nona Kilgore Bauer, a hunting dog aficionado, trainer, and breeder, charts the origins of this sensation multi-purpose hunter: "The practical German hunter-breeder aimed for the ideal one-man dog, one with a superb nose that could locate, point and hold until the guns were at the ready, then, with a gentle mouth, retriever the bird to hand. Download or read book The German Pinscher A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide To Buying Owning Health Grooming Training Obedience Understanding and written by Michael Stonewood and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Pinscher is a medium-sized breed of dog that is a member of the Pinscher typing. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Deutscher Pinscher' in reference to its country of origin, Germany. The German Pinscher is included in the origins for the Dobermann Pinscher, the Rottweiler, the Miniature Pinscher, the Affenpinscher and the Standard Schnauzer. The German Pinscher has been shown in dog book since the early 1880s, but drawings of the breed date back all the way to the early 1780s. However it is believed that the German Pinscher originated in the 15th century! The breed's ancestral history is believed to be connected to ratters, but was developed in Germany for the purposes of guardian and herding cattle. The German Pinscher also began to be used as a coach guardian due to their obedience, agility and strength. The breed has also always been used in homesteads for ratting purposes as they will instinctively hunt and kill small vermin - due to the German Pinscher's extremely high prey drive it is recommended to not leave it of a leash in an unfenced area. The breed is known to be an incredibly loving companion with an even temperament. Temperament is hereditary which means that when you are considering purchasing a German Pinscher it is important to physically meet and interact with the mother of the puppy to ensure that they is gentle and loving. The German Pinscher is a highly intelligent, friendly, confident and trainable breed. While a well-trained German Pinscher live happily with small animals and children it is still advisable to never leave your German Pinscher alone with either to minimize the chance of a potential accident. It is important to remember that the German Pinscher is a working dog and highly energetic, it is therefore likely to develop destructive behaviors if it is not exercised (both physically and mentally) due to an abundance of energy or general boredom. It is also important to note that as a whole, the German Pinscher, has a great dislike for water. They are known to take baths to appease their owners, but will generally shun water at all costs. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. Book excerpt: The Belgian Tervuren, commonly known simply as the 'Tervuren, ' is a breed working dog from Belgium. The breed is named after a small village in Belgium. Traditionally, the Belgian Tervuren is a variant of the Belgian Sheepdog. However in 1959 the American Kennel Club recognized the Belgian Tervuren as being a breed in its own right. The Belgian Tervuren is a medium-sized, athletic and muscular herding type of dog. It has a thick double coat that normally comes in a mahogany coloration with hints of black speckled throughout its coat. The breed also has a black mask that covers its muzzle which gives it a similar appearance to the German Shepherd. As a whole the Belgian Tervuren is a highly energetic and intelligent dog. They need constant attention and exercise to keep them occupied. Like most working dogs, the breed is known to develop destructive habits if they are not exercised properly. The Belgian Tervuren is, generally, not recommended for a first time dog owner due to their high maintenance level. Book excerpt: The Border Collie is a breed of working and herding dog that was developed in the Anglo-Scottish border region. The breed being developed on the border between England and Scotland is thought to be the origin of the breeds name - the 'Border' Collie! Likewise, the term 'Collie' is thought to have been derived from the Celtic word for 'useful.' The breed was originally developed to be capable of herding livestock, especially sheep, and to be highly intelligent and obedient. The Border Collie is a descends from the Landrace collies that originate from the British Isles. The Border Collie has a double coat, soft dark eyes, a well-defined stop and a athletically built body. The breeds double coat can come in two texture variations: smooth and rough. The rough coat variation is of a medium to long length and has feathering on the dog's legs, chest and belly. The smooth coat variation is short all over and has minimal feathering. The breed will most commonly have a black coat with white patches on its face, neck, feet, legs and tail. However it is not uncommon to find Border Collies with bicolored, tricolored, merle or solid coat colorations. As a whole, the Border Collie is known to be a intelligent, loyal and affectionate breed. Due to the breed's working background, the Border Collie is also a highly energetic breed and thrives in an active household. It is important to make sure that you provide your Border Collie with adequate levels of exercise as they tend to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or having an abundance of energy.
